He is flexible when I need to change plans last minute and he clearly cares deeply about Noche. I have a VERY active German Shepherd mix who constantly wants to play fetch and have 100% of your attention so he's not the easiest dog to watch but he LOVES Doug and staying at his place and Doug is great with him. My dog is always excited when we pull up to Doug's and comes home tired. Doug is also extremely responsive so If you need to change your pickup date or just want to know how things are going if you've been boarding for a while he always answers the phone right away. I live down the street from Doug and was recommended by friends to go to Doug as a good cheap way to get the dogs worn out for the day. Seemed like the perfect solution considering I could walk my dogs from our house to his place and he's so darn cheap. My 1 star is not for Doug personally, but for the dilapidated fencing and poor setup as well as the fact that there was a jailbreak while my dogs were there. Long story short I ended up helping him wrangle 14 dogs off of the 6 lane Riverside road during morning rush hour. His fences are barely 6 feet tall and there's nothing else between your dogs and traffic. Needless to say we haven't been back (considering two of the dogs I got from the median were mine). I'm sure he never told the owners that their dogs got loose that day and played in traffic, but I can't say I blame him because he would have been out a lot of customers. Since then I've seen dogs loose on Riverside around his property (nice looking dogs with collars and not street dogs) and I can't help but wonder if there was another jailbreak every time it happens. I decided to post this review today after seeing a white fluffy dog a few yards down from a German Shepherd both running around his front gate. Doug is a very nice guy and is great with dogs, but his setup is just him (one guy) and more than 10 dogs everyday. Add in low fences and that was a recipe for disaster the first and last day we took our dogs to his place. read more

I can't say enough good things about Doug, but I'll sure keep trying! Doug provides the BEST daycare/boarding for our pup that we've ever experienced, hands down. Moose is a very high energy dog and we've struggled with other daycare options when it comes to others giving him both the attention and tasks/behavior expectations that he needs. When he goes to Doug, he is a part of the pack and knows that he has jobs to do/rules to follow, and he also gets plenty of love. We've noticed his behavior adjust at home in a positive way since coming here, we get genuinely helpful feedback from Doug, and we see how thrilled Moose gets each time we pull into Doug's parking lot - he is always ecstatic to join Doug and his pup pals, and he comes home very content. I've been taking my dog Cisco here for over 10 yrs I think. We go out of town about 4 times a year for long weekends, and we pick Doug's every single time. Doug is soft-spoken (with people, not the dogs) - calling him Austin's Dog Whisperer isn't far fetched. He's very in tune to them - pretty cool to watch actually. I picked Doug's place because there are no kennels - the dogs are together and with Doug the whole time. They play together, eat together, sleep together. My dog gets along with other dogs, but prefers people, so Doug has told us Cisco is often at Doug's feet at first, but eventually hangs with the other dogs after settling in. Besides kennel-free, it's crazy convenient on Riverside and the price is right. Also, some places don't take dogs over 10 yrs old - Cisco is 14 yrs now and can still go to Doug. As for the 2009 review from Charli, things have changed over the last couple years. New fences, new greeting area to get acquainted with the pack, etc. Place looks great. read more

My dogs are Rescues that i pulled from Kill-shelters in NY and are not dogs for regular homes and not dogs that are "human social" due to emotional traumas, one is even Pawdicaped. In the past I boarded many dogs im my business as Holistic Pet Boarding with over 50 5* reviews (up to 16 clients a day) and understand the difficulties of running a complex dog business. Giving a "competitor" i used in the past, 5 stars should give you a better understanding of how this business is handling dogs. YES, dogs get dirty...(that's natural) Yes dogs get scratches and get in disputes...( humans in a football game do more damage to each-other) If your dog sleeps at night on your pillow you might want to give your dog a bath before he/she gets home... The price is a NO BRAINER - i would suggest giving a extra tip as good gesture for how well he treats your dog and how much love and "training" your dog gets during his stay... For those who give 1 star review..."NO COMMENT" or wait i have a comment...Cheap and perfect? in 2016 this place is not a SPA or plasma TV for your dog however it offers everything a dog loves... Doug's place is a great place to leave your dog while at work or on vacation! The place is large with lots of room for them to run and play. He treats all of the dogs as if they were his, he's a dog person and you can tell when you meet him that he is there for the dogs. I texted him to check in while I was away and he responded super fast and it was my first time leaving my dog and he's a dachshund and the smallest dog on his lot. They do get dirty but that's because they aren't trapped inside all day they are free to roam and play. He fed him and the price is amazing! Chappie will be staying here a lot more! I've just recently found Dougs place.. it's unique, conveniently located (for us) and fits exactly what we needed for Mister. 55# 10 month old Shepherd mix puppy needs to burn some energy. Doug is the best! He has been watching my dog Jack for 2 years now. He is extremely reliable and professional. My dog plays there during the day a few times a month while I'm at work and stays overnight for boarding when I got out of town. He loves running and playing outside in the huge yard. Doug has been a reliable, affordable and convenient place to take my dogs when I go out of town for short or long trips for the past 4 years. Like other posters have said Doug does not have kennels, your dogs simply join his in a pack that varies in size depending on the number of visitors. He has a quiet way with people, but a firm but friendly leadership with the dogs. My dogs are always tired and dusty when they come home. I know they have had a great time playing and running around--just being dogs. You will see dogs of all sizes, breeds and temperaments at Doug's. He is willing and able to work with them all. I have an outgoing 7 year old Shepard mix and a 10 year old defensive, grumpy lab. Both of them have a place to fit in at Doug's and Doug has helped my old lab feel comfortable fitting into a larger pack of dogs (something I have struggled with). In the last year or so Doug has rebuilt all of his fencing, added a large above-ground pool for the dogs and improved his hours and pick-up and drop-off procedures. He is conveniently located, flexible and the normal person's answer to the rules, costs and inconvenience of the flashy dog kennels. This review is overdue, but no less heartfelt. Doug is simply awesome! We regularly brought our two dogs here for boarding and day care for over 10 years. One of our dogs passed away in 2013, and the other is now quite old and has trouble with the stairs at Doug's place, so we haven't been there for a while. But even when time goes by, Doug still feels like "family" to us and our Hambassador. He was one of the first dog specialists in Austin to adopt a Cesar Milan-style, "pack" approach to boarding, in which guest dogs become part of his personal pack when they stay there (and of course, Doug is the "top dog"). He understands and "gets" dogs like few other people do--he knows they are inherently pack animals who thrive within a pack and its hierarchy. Our dogs were never as relaxed coming home from a boarding stay as they were coming home from Doug's. And they always looked forward to going back! In response to the one star review, Dog's you see wandering around are not Doug's dogs. He complains constantly about those dogs as they are from the surrounding neighborhoods and are escaping from their yards and the owners don't care. Doug is by far the best out there, and calling him the dog whisperer is absolutely correct. Don't be nervous to leave your dog with Doug. They are in good hands, and will be thoroughly worn out by the end of the day. Doug keeps them in check and along the way it teaches them respect. My dog has had better manners and behavior after going to Doug for a year. When I pick my dog up he is happy, smiling and if you pat him dirt flies up off of him; after we pull out he falls asleep the entire way home. That to me is the sign of a great daycare. read more

Doug is an angel I am so glad to have found him. A true diamond in the rough! I'm a student and Doug's prices are extremely affordable, but I also don't feel like I'm skimping or anything for my pup by bringing him here. Doug has a full acre of land for the dogs to run around on, an inside area, shade outside, and even an above ground pool in the summertime! I'm not a believer in needing to skype your dog at his playplace while you're at work, so this place is awesome for me. Honestly, I wouldn't feel right having a dog if I couldn't take him to daycare and Doug has made it possible for me to be a responsible, young dog parent. He is truly a blessing! BTW his fences have been redone since the negative review concerning that. I never see dogs on the street when I'm over there. Doug also explained to me that sometimes dogs just show up on his property because he has a pack of his own- so don't be so quick to judge. I have been taking my 5 year old Golden doodle to Dougs for about a year, 3 days a week and we could not be happier. I add 30 minutes to my commute to be able to take my dog and it so worth it knowing he will be outside playing all day. The property is really big and spacious with lots of tree cover. The dogs can be inside or outside which is really nice. i know that Doug really cares about our dog and all of the other dogs there. He has complete control of them at all times. We have been to a lot of doggy day cares (austin dog town, camp 4 paws, dog boys dog ranch) and Doug is by far the best. Our dog loves him!! read more

I starting bringing my 13 yr old Lab to Doug when we moved to south Austin almost seven years ago. Later, Mollie took Bosco to daycare with her when he came to us at six months. Bosco loved daycare at Doug's. After Mollie passed on, he would go two to three times a week during the six months out of the year when I worked. He stays there when we travel and has stayed for ten days at a time during our vacations. Now that Bosco is five, he has introduced his adopted sis, Annie, to DTDW. He and Annie go for daycare as well as when we take trips. I never worry about them when at Doug's. I know he cares for my babies as if they were his own. His facilities have improved substantially over the years to include an above the ground filtered pool as well as new fencing and designation introduction areas. Doug's love for all of the dogs is so obvious, I can't imagine taking mine anywhere else. If that isn't enough, Doug is the most reasonable daycare/boarding facility in town! read more
