Nice vibe to the place, but a little overrated in my opinion. Had a breakfast biscuit sandwich with egg, bacon and cheese. Barely any egg and bacon with a thin slice of cheese. I took the top of the biscuit off and even then all I could taste was biscuit. I liked that the biscuit was a bit crumbly, but it seemed dry. I think it would be great with some gravy or something, but as a sandwich it's just too much biscuit. The cappuccino was nice and frothy, but I wasn't a fan of whatever espresso they used in it, it had a weird taste. Employees were nice and place was clean, but I think I'll pass next time, especially on their food menu. read more

I live in Bloomingdale and I gladly bike up the hill to this place every day--it's just that good. There's always ample space if you need to get work done, and the people are super friendly and never comment on how sweaty I am after biking. It's got that minimalist-chic hipster thing going on, but it works...plus their quiche is so good l want to ask it out on a date and try to hold its hand. They also have ping pong and a beautiful patio, because of course they do. Come check it out and you'll never go to Tryst again. read more

We live right around the corner so are here quite frequently. Coffee shop by day and quiet table tennis bar by night, Colony has a great thing going. On the coffee shop end, they have a couple rotating pour over/fancy pants coffees all the time and the baristas make solid espresso. Even their regular coffee is amazing. I also appreciate that they offer solid coffee without the judgy vibe you get from many other hipstery coffee spots. I'm a huge fan of the idea of staying open at night as a bar and the table tennis table upstairs is a great addition. Its a quiet spot for sure, but if you're into having a low key night, this spot is great. Low traffic means you can actually play table tennis upstairs without being constantly run into. Having breathing room can be a rare thing in baes in DC. I've met a lot of cool people just hanging out upstairs and playing table tennis, and downstairs is nice to just chill with some friends over beer. Bottom line, its a great neighborhood spot. I'm hoping that doesn't change as the area gets mirr popular. read more

Two stars because it's cute. However, I am having the hardest time locating someone in D.C. who knows how to make a proper flat beverage. Although I understand that almond milk foams up quite a bit, the trick is to use slightly less milk and pour with a spoon. Folk have no trouble where I'm from--California. The barista here attempted 3 times and each time my drink was simply filled with less and less milk. Too bad because I was looking forward to lounging out back. read more

Colony club does a lot of things well. I first discovered this place looking for good coffee in DC. Upon closer examination, this is also a bar... That serves Schneiderweisse. Wow. I show up to their anniversary party and they have coffee, beer, and lobster rolls. I think I could live here. The only thing that would make this place better is pimms and pimms cups. read more

Visited on a Sunday morning and thought I was back in Portland, Ore., just a bit more crowded! Coffee is phenomenal. They used Ceremony out of Annapolis on the day I was there. This is a GREAT place to sit and do your work. No one will bother you, not even the bartender. This space is not very welcoming with open arms and not very cultural. I walked in with four other friends and everyone looked at us as if we were out of place or as if we walked in on accident. It just felt weird. There was not a single POC in the building at that moment either. However, this place was VERY clean and the coffee I ordered was good. My friends got beers. We finished and left out, this is not a hangout spot... it's only for sitting and doing work on your computer or studying. read more

I had their caramel macchiato and that weekend they had a pop-up bagel shop inside so I ordered the bagel with cream cheese. Should've gotten lox, but I was feeling the cream cheese. The coffee was very nicely prepared and tasted great. I had as is and added nothing to it. They also have a punch card so you get a free coffee after your 10th. Very sweet spot with outdoor seating. It was pretty crowded that weekend morning and has more of a family feel to it. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar tables and enjoyed our breakfast over the nice wall decor that really brings personality to the place. Will certainly be returning! read more

I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I had to try this spot since it's right in my neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised with how spacious the place is. It feels much wider than it looks in pictures. It's nice to not have to shimmy sideways to make my way to the counter like at Qualia Coffee and it has a more modern and inviting vibe than Harrar Coffee (although I do like Harrar). Also the customer service was great. I didn't go upstairs to check out the ping pong area but I'll definitely be back to check it out another time. I ordered the English scone, cheddar and spinach quiche and regular drip coffee. The coffee was awesome!! Also the milk & sugar area was spacious enough to not feel rushed or cramped while I got my coffee just right. They actually did heat up the quiche so I'm assuming they have the ability to heat up other items/pastries if you ask. The quiche was just okay but the scone was delicious. I really hope this place succeeds and I will be back often to support it. read more

Nice indoor and outdoor areas, with good drinks and tasty food. The staff are a hit and miss- they're mostly nice, polite and helpful, except one or two here and there that seem pretty grumpy all the time. My only complaint is that the music is way too loud for a place where people go to read, work, talk, etc. Sometimes the music is great, and sometimes it's pretty annoying (it's all a matter of personal taste), but I would really really appreciate it if they turned it a few notches down. If and when that happens, I will definitely give the place 4 stars. read more

Great multifunctional space off Georgia Ave. They have a good selection of beer/wine and of course their coffee is fantastic. No kitchen but they have some charcuterie and snacks available. I really wanted to love this place, but needed to take a star off because of the frostiness of some of the staff. This place is absurd! Went in for coffee and they have one tiny size that will absolutely not sustain anyone looking for a decent cup of coffee to start their day. I kept thinking of the Lorelai Gilmore line, "Barbie's Malibu Dream Coffee Cup." Went in for happy hour a few months ago and the HH prices were the equivalent of regular prices at several bars on GA Ave. Staff pretty unfriendly as well.
