Really like this place......hot and sour soup is incredible!!!! We ate here twice while visiting the area....the owner is very nice. You do get a huge plate of food from the lunch menu. Just beware of the veggie delight....it has a bit of a kick! Make sure you have lots of water while eating. :) My only complaint was it was very hot in the restaurant.....it was about 85 that day and apparently no air conditioner in the place. read more

It was good for several years. Then one day there was a long black hair in my food. I went to pick it up and up came a large peice of sesame chicken with it. When I showed Kevin, the owner, he did nothing! Weeks later my husband really wanted Chinese so I agreed to try again, anyone can have an off day. Guess what, this time there were multiple small black hairs in my lo mein. This time Kevin offered to bring me something else, but I had lost my appetite. I refused to pay for mine, but did pay for hubby's. About a year later on my husbands birthday he really wanted to try it again. We ate there with no problems! Yea! I thought the problem was solved. I agreed to return the next time my hubby felt like Chinese. That was the final straw. Once again there was a short black hair in my food. Now when he wants Chinese we both call it "hair in the food" and opt for the other restaurant in town or wait until we go out of town. read more

I wanted to try a vegetarian dish but when I asked my waitress what was actually in the dishes they were very heavy on tofu and very light on vegetables. So, that was a strike out. Plan B. Sweet and sour chicken - how can you mess that up? When my order of sweet and sour chicken came out I was super impressed with the portion size. A huge heap of chicken and rice! But when I started eating it I realized that their chicken was more like fried dough balls with the smallest piece of chicken hiding in the depths of fried flour. Apparently, they keep their prices down by giving you microscopic meat. No veggies in veggie dishes and no meat in the meat dishes, their cost cutting ways are all too apparent. The service was very prompt and friendly, too bad they cut so many corners with the food. read more

We had dinner here while visiting from Cleveland Heights, Ohio. The experience was outstanding. My Sesame Tofu was stellar -- crispy, chewy and tasty. Everyone at the table raved over their dishes. We ate here at lunch. Typical Chinese menu, food was not tastee, used lots of salt, pepper and spices to add flavor. Extremely hot, no air conditioning and only a couple of misplaced fans, sweated during the meal. Waitress brought the menus, food and check, nothing else like do you need anything. So we ate at both chinese places in Gunnison on our last visit. We ate at the House of China first, and boy were we disappointed. Being from Denver, we know the difference between good an bad Chinese food. You can read my review for that place, but stay away from the House of China . Definitely go for the Double Dragon instead. The lo mein was actual lo mein, with the right balance of meat and vegetables. You can get it cooked with or without the Hoisin sauce. Everything was fresh, the service was impeccable, and Kevin, the owner, is very friendly. The eggrolls were fresh and crispy, and the prices were better. Only problem is the parking on the street. The food was prepared quickly and all the food was fresh and exactly how we ordered it! My daughter got the mochi and she thought it was delicious! For a small town it was very good. Friendly, working owner, large portions, fried rice an option instead of plain no charge, filled with local regulars-always a good sign. We took some home to go to our motorhome based at the campground just down the road. Made for a relaxing movie night because I didn't have to cook. Don't go to the other place a few yards west. Ah the Double Dragon. One of the few Chinese restaurants in a small town such as Gunnision. I'd recommend going during lunch for sure. It's very reasonable priced (around $8 a meal) and you get a ton of food. I got the hot and sour soup. It was a little on the luke warm side, but still tasty. I ordered the Mongolian beef and it was delicious. It came with a mountain of rice which there was no way I could finish. We also got spring rolls with our meal that were good as well. Good Chinese food in Gunnison. We got the family special, and it is a lot of food! It comes with soup, hot and sour chicken and beef, a crab wonton, and an egg roll for each person. Double dragon is one of the only Chinese options in gunnison. Because of this I have given it second third and fourth tries and everytime I am more disappointed. The meat might as well just be the breading for the meat because of how over cooked their meat is(if it even exsists to begin with) each and everytime myself or someone else gets something from there this has been an issue. My most recent meal I couldn't get any of my friends to eat and I kid you not when I say only half the dogs that were in the house at the time would eat it. read more

We've been going here since we moved to Gunnison 10 years ago. As a matter of fact, we had to be sure there was a decent Chinese restaurant in town before we moved here. Lunch is very reasonably priced and portions are generous. The Hot and Sour soup is very good. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is excellent. Everyone is friendly. And yes, two can eat a big lunch with free hot tea and spend about $15-$17. One of the best deals in town. read more
