The food and service here today were both very good. The proprietor and his wife/chef were both attentive to us as customers. I ordered shrimp with snow peas, and my partner ordered shrimp egg foo young. Both of us enjoyed the food. The interior of the restaurant belies the good food and service, though. Very warm inside, and Gen Tso "Chicken" was very little to no chicken In most bites just the sweet batter coated on top of itself. Consistency and spicy was was perfect but wouldn't recommend unless you are looking for Gen Tso (essence of) Chicken. Staff was very friendly. Egg roll was good! read more

Overall, the food is quite good. The place pretty much runs like a takeout spot with the possibility of sitting and eating if one wanted. In all fairness, due to the staff shortages, they had to take away usual dining services. To deal with the staff shortage, they had to utilize styrofoam and plasticware. I would say that depending on what you like, the dishes can be really good. My favorite meals are the shrimp fried rice, the moo shu chicken, sesame chicken, any and all appetizers, and the egg drop/wonton soups. The staff is friendly and portions are really large! I would say find your favorite dishes and stick with it. There's something for everyone. read more

Craving some Chinese and decided to go here. I won't make that mistake again ! Only Chinese in town so I guess they don't have to try. I ordered pork with garlic sauce, I don't know what they served me. Large container of sweet sauce full of bell peppers. Pork must have been less than 1/4 lb and was mostly all strips of fat. I had the egg foo young and the owner Kevin (22 years!) kindly allowed me to order a family meal (usually minimum of 2) that comes with soup, egg roll (excellent), beef skewer, chicken wing, and a crab and cheese wonton. So the inside of the restaurant is a bit of a mess and there are some dirty areas that need some attention for sure. The owners/staff were nice enough but definitely a business transaction instead of a welcome. The food was decent but not great. 10% off for WCU students and it's affordable. We had a wonderful experience in this family run restaurant. I think it was the owner who took our order and he was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Being vegetarians we always make sure that our order doesn't have any fish sauce or shrimp paste so it is always helpful when the host knows the ingredients. We ordered the vegetable lo mein and szechuan vegetables. They come with a side of rice or fried rice, soup, spring roll and a slice of orange. As the soup had eggs, we were given an extra spring roll instead. The food was delicious. The lo mein was one of the best I ever ate. The portions were amazing and the prices were unbeatable. Sesame Chicken + Fried Rice - exceptionally small pieces of chicken (perhaps scraps from other dishes?) with lots of breading. I thought the flavors were overly 5 spice and msg. Service was so-so, it was hot inside with a single fan going and there were a lot of flies that I had to constantly swat away from my food as I was trying to eat. There are only two Chinese restaurants in Gunnison and neither of them is a real stand-out, but the Double Dragon is a solid three and a half stars (I took the liberty of rounding up to four). We stopped in for lunch today and were greeted promptly and pleasantly and we had hot tea and water on our table within two minutes of walking in the door. Lunch specials are typical Chinese fare served with choice of soup, an eggroll and fried or steamed rice. The fried rice was pretty nondescript but everything was hot and tasty and served with a smile. The two of us were fed, watered and out the door for less than 17 bucks including tip, and that really appeals to my frugal side. We'll be back next time we're in the mood for Chinese in Gunnison. read more

My son and I stopped in this afternoon, after yet another long day of riding. He had sesame chicken, I had sweet and sour pork. He's picky, but liked the sesame chicken a lot, said it's best he's had. We're just regular folk, we don't critique so harshly like so many. I'll tell you this, I liked my pork, and at 13 bucks an entree, it will easily feed 2 adults. He had cream filled wontons (rangoons?) that were awesome. I loved my 2 egg rolls. Service was excellent, Kevin helps you feel very at home. The workers work in unison, and they keep your glasses full. A wonderful way to end a visit to Gunnison. I am a paraplegic, and was staying at the econo Lodge hotel. I was unable to get to them and asked if they delivered, they said they did deliver, but not for one person. Very disappointed. We were stuck in town and couldn't get home to Denver so we got a hotel room and needed to get some dinner. We were happy to see that this restaurant was still open. We ordered food which by the way was delicious. Seriously some of the best sesame chicken we have ever had! The place was empty so we assumed it was quiet because of the storm but apparently they were closed already. We had misread the closing time.
