We ordered Mongolian beef, orange chicken, tomato beef chow mein, and fried rice, and everything tasted great. That said, the prices are on the higher side: about $20 for most main dishes and $16 for fried rice. While the portions are large, I still feel the prices could be a bit more reasonable. I'm taking off a star for the mandatory 15% dine-in fee. They do warn you about it on the table, but I've never seen this kind of fee added in this area before. Every time we have come to this place, the food has been excellent as well as service. The restaurant is clean and again the food is always the best. One thing I do have a question about is the 15% charge for dining in house. We always leave a 25% tip so if they charge 15% to eat in house we only leave a 10% tip. I've grown up eating Chinese food in SF Chinatown through the 70's and 80's in the Bay Area. In a lot of ways it's become comfort food for me therefore I've been on a lifelong search for good Chinese food. The proximity to where I work did play a factor on choosing a new lunch spot. Also the fact that they been in business for a longtime and is an iconic local restaurant were the other factors. The service has always been prompt every time I've ordered either over the phone or in person. It has a pleasant ambiance and the interior is nicely done. It became all to familiar as I parked beside the restaurant: Double Dragon has been here for many years. I remember see this restaurant as I traverse James Donlon via Somersville to skip the traffic going to Brentwood. Yup, Hwy 4 bypass was not yet created. We ordered the Salt & Pepper pork chop, along with Beef Chow Mein, Walnut Prawns, their special Double Dragon Beef, along with Chicken Corn soup. We also had Cream Cheese Rangoon for appetizer. The rangoon was just okay with a slightly different presentation. But the mouthwatering picture of the pork chop does due justice. Thinly sliced, it was delicious, crunchy, and properly seasoned. The Walnut Prawns were delicious as well, with a good amount of crunch and a distinct taste difference from your typical honey walnut prawns that make it more interesting. Beef Chow Mein was distinctly OG Chinese resto flavor. Double Dragon beef was very crunchy but was alright, so was the Chicken corn soup. Greeted very quickly although it was very busy inside the restaurant. First thing I noticed was how SPOTLESS and CLEAN the interior of the restaurant is! Sadly, I'm used to dirty windows, seats, and tables... and this was such a great surprise! Not only were the windows clean, no dust, no grease...the decor looked new and spotless! The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive serving us water and taking our orders quickly. We ordered the wor wonton soup, chicken fried rice, crab Rangoons, sesame chicken, and walnut prawns. All of the food was extremely fresh and delicious! They give you a TON of food for the cost and if it's just 2 of you... there will be plenty leftovers. Still the BEST Chinese food I have tried in the area. And I discovered they have my favorite Hunan Chicken the way I like it with celery and carrots which is a rare find anywhere (usually Hunan chicken is like a fried sweet sticky kind which I do not like in other restaurants-this one is spicy stirfried chicken with celery and carrots). This is one of my favorites Hunan Chicken because of the spicy sauce and not too many restaurants make this. It is not perfect like another restaurant (that has since closed down China Village in Walnut Creek), but closest to what I can get. I got a lot of people hooked on this dish in China Village, so maybe you guys can try it and see how ytou like it too! Rest of the food is good as always-best Hot and Sour soup in the area, love the sweet sour chicken crispy and crunchy but light (note takeout it gets soggy so best eaten at the restaurant). Chow mein substantial-my kids' favorite restaurant out here too. Service is always friendly and great-very attentive. They do charge a 15% fee to dine in, but I asked if that is the tip and the waitress said yes, so that is ok (unless I misunderstood? But that was the tip I gave her so hopefully she understood my question!). Maybe people weren't leaving tips so they had to implement that?! I usually give at least 20% and in cash to the wait staff to ensure they get it at restaurants. Note I rarely give 5 stars for restaurants, only if a real gourmet 5 stars food. Starting with the bean curd soup with spinach and mushroom, it was boiling hot, simple, lots of broth, awesome flavor. The War Wonton soup only had a single lonely prawn, the broth was bland and the wontons were all dough (no meat or veggies). The food comes in these flimsy, thin plastic containers so the sauce spills out enough that they have to wrap it in a plastic bag. So the sauce ends up getting everywhere when you take the container out of the bag. The food was okay. My chicken and broccoli was good when I first ate it. But heating up the leftovers the next day it had a weird texture, like too much corn startch. This spot is so over priced and that is my biggest beef with it. I was born at night, but not last night. Beware! Pay close attention to your check/receipt! I was recently charged $23 more than what appeared on my itemized check, and no copy of my itemized check accompanied my receipt of payment, as is customary. Strange... Pictures of menu items are deceiving and food selections were disappointing; especially after having dined there previously. A notice placed on our dining table informed us that a 15% gratuitity is automatically included in the cost of dining in. Okay. Ordered two broccoli beef lunches with fried rice. Received warm raw broccoli, closer to raw than steamed. While I often enjoy chopped raw broccoli on salads, I had no intention of consuming it as part of an entree. The mound of rice appeared to be steamed rice with yellow food coloring, no vegetables included. Explanation: the colored rice is Double Dragon's version of fried rice.The website, then, appears be fraudulent. Ravenous after missing breakfast, I did not complain or ask for a replacement with the fried rice pictured on the website. However, I vowed to never return to this restaurant. When I received my receipt, I noticed that I was being charged $65 rather than the $42 that my check indicated. Verified my actual tab by using the trusty calculator on my cell phone. An employee who was dining nearby, observed my reaction and offered assistance. Took my receipt and returned with a void of the $65 charge and a new receipt for $42. On 4/16/23 we decided to purchase our order to go, we got broccoli and beef that was extremely greasy and tasted horrible.
