MECHANICAL BULL RIDING The first room is country music. I wasn't feeling it, all i kept saying to myself was "I'm in a country music bar. What am I doing here." I didn't want to be rude and dip out on the party but then we moved to the second room. The second room is 90s and early 2000s hip hop and bull riding. The second room was def. our genre of music reminiscing of them club days. There's big mechanical bull and randoms ride it for a fee and a signed waiver. 1) birthdays and bride-to-be get to ride for free. The guy controlling the bull will stop it, jump on the bull from behind, cock your head back, and douse your mouth with a shot of liquor. 2) the guy controlling the bull is much nicer to women then he is to the men. When a man is on the bull he's controlling the joystick like he's battling someone in a video game. Some women he's nice too and goes easy on them. Other women he's nice at first but then flings then off quickly after. 3) it's addicting to watch and had a good time cheering drunk people. Going out is fun when you barely do it. Most of my friends there were married couples who have kids so this night was the "we don't have the kids tonight" kind of night out for everyone. We felt old but there was a mix of people so it wasn't that bad at all. I didn't feel like I was in a Fresh 21 crowd, everyone here was super chill (young, old, etc). OMG!! I've probably only came here like 2 times before and last weekend we passed by this place after our comedy show and I took one look inside and felt ballsy enough to ride the BULL!!! And yes, I was sober! Haha. 5 years ago me would be too shy and timid, but this time I was like..why tf not? I'm not getting any younger and just wanted to experience it! We got right in with no problem and the line to ride the mechanical bull ride was not that long. Number 25 was up and I was 31....I was a bit nervous but I thought, nope! The show must got on! It cost $7.00 and you get 2 tries. You also have to sign a waiver since i guess riding the bull is a serious thing! They made me put an emergency contact and every thing and so I almost backed out but you know what, your girl ain't weak! OK!?! So my time was up and they made me take off my shoes. You can have both hands on the bull, but the right way to ride is with your dominant hand on the bull and your other hand to balance your self. I chose to do it the right way and had one hand on the bull and the other hand in the air like I was some pageant queen! TBH this thing might look easy but it's not! I lasted exactly 1 minute and only fell off because my dress was riding up haha. It was definitely a fun experience and they also have really good dancing music. In other recent downtown excursions, I've noticed a couple of DD folks passing out flyers a few blocks away and I've seen some hapless victim taking a spin on Bullet, but I really haven't enjoyed the full blown DD experience at peak hours. It was still relatively early in the evening and the place wasn't at capacity yet. We were mostly watching the Giants v Phillies series and some UFC undercard bouts in the main entrance bar. I didn't explore much because the other areas were roped off and/or dark, otherwise I would have taken more pics. The bartendresses were very friendly and attentive. No happy hour specials going on, so that was a bummer. I still enjoyed a Pacifico with my tequila shot and chatted with fellow yelpers. I went to double deuce last night with my family that came to visit for my grandma's birthday. We were on the side where they ride the ball and we had ordered drinks all night and paid and tipped the bartender all night. When they said last call we got our last drinks and the bartender chased us down to pay the tab like we weren't going to pay and we were in front of the bar just passing the drinks she was aggressive and rude and racist. I asked her why she was being rude to us and she was like y'all need to pay your tab like now and I said we've been paying all night we pulled out $200 gave her the money and told her that money was never an issue we always paid I don't know why she was acting like it because we're black ? and she was like you don't have to be rude to me I was like bitch you're being rude to us,that white privilege shit. Some bouncer came and put us out the club, he didn't even ask what happened and was very rude and racist himself which is sad. I tried to speak to the manager but he didn't want to listen and he seem racist himself the bouncer said that his bartenders aren't racist and I said how do you know that and why when I'm trying to tell y'all how rude and disrespectful she was to us and they wouldn't listen. So if you're nice, you don't really have to pay to ride the bull but you do have to sign a waiver saying you wont sue them if your face gets ripped off or your ass gets impaled by the fake bull's horns. It's kind of entertaining as well because the cowboy guy rings a bell and jumps in and lands right behind you and pours liquor down your gullet to make you a better rider, lol. Once you enter, it's a country bar with country music and the respective music video on the TV screens, turn to the right through the corridor and you'll be met with OLD hip hop rap songs (think Kanye West Gold Digger and 50 cent Birthday and Soulja Boy -cringe) which I guess is okay, but couldn't they have mixed some new shit in there? Anyways, it was a full house but it was fun. I went back and forth a couple times just because I love country music. I was like the only non white person in that area though, it seems. The bathroom though- is tiny, and it smells. I mean, it's a bathroom but it's really small and stuffy in there, so try to pee somewhere else if you can. There was two sides to the place. Where you first enter is really chill and a big bar then you cross over where there is the mechanical bull and loud music which is where the party is at! They also had an upstairs area which was pretty chill as well as a bar! I didn't stay here for long but it was a pretty cool place. Came here last weekend for a bachelorette party that me and gf had planned. I knew that the bride loved country places and this place seemed super fun. This place is HUGE! It's almost as if they have 2 bars connected as one. There are 2 sides, once side plays country music and the other side place more hip hop and they have a badass Bull! Watching people ride the Bull is like watching a show. They take it very seriously and it's very professional. I was shocked! Drinks are normal prices. They have an upstairs area for special parties. Our bach trip got moved up there within 3 min of walking in the door and it was awesome. We could see everything from the balcony. Something else I really enjoyed, there was a a lot of security. BE AWARE GUYS !!!!!! I went here last night with 2 friends, If you have a California ID you'll go in fast without being questioned/harassed, but if you have another state ID or even a passport (one of my friends had a passport and the other had a Florida state id), get ready to be waiting outside and be questioned. So when we finally walked in, we decided to do the Bull Ride while our friend take videos of us. We paid $7 each for the ride and waited in the line. We noticed that they would go easy on pretty women's and guys would usually last 10-20 seconds on that ride. Long story short, if your a guy, no matter how good or strong you are with the bull ride, he will go super hard on you till you either break you bones or fall within a few seconds which is definitely not worth any money. The very tall black guy was very very rude to me, he approached me before I got into the bull ride and told me that the line was behind me and since I wasn't standing in line I had to go all the way back to the line, and I was standing literally a feet away from the line and even all the people behind me knows I was going to be next, so I told him ''Excuse me Sir, I've been waiting for too long and I won't go all the way back, ill just step back to the line (Which is not visible at all btw). He started yelling at me telling me to go all the way back and also called me ''Babe'' trying to be funny and act like a bad ass in front of everyone. The guys behind me that I did not know grabbed me back to line and told me he's not worth it just ignore him which I did. So finally when the girl in the bull ride that was in the ride for about 2-3 minutes finished, I was standing first in line with the number #66 written on my hands, the guy that operates the ride came and suddenly grabbed a girl from behind that has #74 on her hands!! When I told him Im next with a number #66, he response, no your not and walks away. I started becoming very frustrated mostly because of the way their treating me and my time being wasted. And again, the Sexism award goes to...... the guy that is operating the ride bull, the girl took a couple minutes in the ride which I wasn't surprised. When he came to get me, I told him ''hey, this is my first time riding this so go easy on me'' then he punched me on my chest really hard, and said ''I got you bro''. I was very confused because that punch was hard but yet he played it like he was being a friendly bro... and the reason I told him to go easy on me because while I was waiting so long for my turn, I seen him go really hard on guys that only lasted a few seconds while the girls lasted minutes. I paid to enjoy the ride and not to be harassed, punched, and hurting my shoulders and legs because of the intensity he went on me (I have videos to proof). So please guys, don't waste your time, money in this place. Just a warning to anyone who is interested in riding the bull: BE PREPARED TO GET TOSSED OFF QUICKLY. The operator only gives the good rides to women he wants to see bouncing around. My friend broke her shoulder from trying it out and she wasn't even on there for more than 15 seconds! Mind you she's only 4'11" and less than 120lbs but the operator flung her off the ride so hard/quick that she broke her shoulder and had to go to the hospital. Also like another person had mentioned, I've also caught the bartenders trying to pass off my alcohol as a premium when it was actually a well. Crown is the only alcohol I drink so I can easily taste the difference. I thought maybe it was an honest mistake the first time but it happened more than once and on different occasions. Alright where do I begin about this place. It's a staple in San Diego, if you don't go here when you are visiting you are completely missing out. I love how there are 2 areas 1. The bar 2. The Mechanical Bull room. Both of which are very fun. I am local and I love Thursday's?! Why? Because of the karaoke! There is karaoke here, most of it quite awful. The drinks also seem to be pretty cheap, and the bartenders who serve them are, well, poorly clothed for cold weather, so to say. The beer selection is moderate, although several of the taps displayed were actually out when I tried to order them. But really, the main reason anyone should come here is to concur the bull. I managed to convince two Korean businessmen who work for Samsung to take the challenge, with the stipulation that I would also hop on after them. Their effort was admirable, given that they had never seen and certainly not been on one of these things before, but my dominant performance of a minute plus each round, while LMFAO slayed vampires with bottles of champagne in the background (according to the video evidence), stole the show and set the record(s) for the night. For that experience, I give this bar that I probably wouldn't attend otherwise an extra star. I admit that I'm having a hard time coming up with a rating for Double Deuce. It's likely a place that I would have loved in my early twenties but now that I'm a bit older and wiser at 28, it's not really my cup of tea anymore. On the plus side, half the bar plays country music. I'm a country girl at heart and this is what made the evening tolerable. The other half of the bar plays top 40 and was far too crowded for my liking. I don't enjoy getting jostled about by passersby. Once we moved upstairs to the country bar, I felt more relaxed. We found a few stools and sat overlooking the main bar downstairs. There are large television screens that play the music videos, which was a nice distraction. Thanks to Double Deuce workers on the street corner downtown, we got wrist stamps that got us in for free on a Friday night. My boyfriend even got a free bull ride for his birthday. If you check in on Yelp, you can get a free shot (which I believe were Washington Apples). If you like crowded downtown bars, this place would be worth checking out.
