First time here. We were Betsy's +10 on her Meetup guest list. The process to getting in reminded me so much like Vegas... Bouncers/Security everywhere thinking their important LOL Anywho FloatSD is beautiful. They have a casual vibe setup. Nice view of the convention center and the gaslamp area. I love it. FloatSD was just a little too dark... Like the power went out. The place is nice with the little Firepit and loungy couch -- turn up the light a little so people can appreciate it the setup. The music was great... I think it was 90s/80s music night. The music brought back so much memories from my talent show days -- I busted out my dance routine to Mariah Carey's Fantasy! The meetup event included FREE DRINKS from 9-10pm! Can't complain... Except the fact that it was Weak... Couldn't taste the vodka however I still got a good buzz. The bartenders and everyone else that worked there were super friendly. The bartenders were thankful for their tips. I would definitely come back. Even during the day to hang by the pool with your girlfriends.

Rooftop bar fun! Float is above the Hard Rock Hotel, where intervention is held during summertime! This is a fun spot, especially on warm evenings. Holiday and summertime usually create long lines and covers, during low peak time there's no cover and the line doesn't exist which is nice. Seating is located at the bottle service areas, however is seating is available when the VIP areas are not reserved. They play good music with the DJ's they have here! The bartenders make the drinks well and atmosphere make this a nice spot to sip your cocktail and enjoy the weather in America's Finest City. ;D

Very laid back and chill. Nice atmosphere. It's not super crowded and there is seating. The drinks are awesome. The music is good. This would be a nice place to come on a date or with your coworkers. You can talk over the music without having to yell. Good place to come if you don't want to deal with the usual downtown crowd.

My friends and I stop by this place after several others for drinks. The atmosphere here is nice. Decor is amazing with the ambient light and the hue on the trees was pretty cool. There is a pool side for dippers. I said dipper due to the ginormous size of the pool. You probably have enough room for a 10-15 people to dip in, no swim. There are several cabanas, couches and beds for you to lounge around as well. When we went, it wasn't crowed which was nice. It was mellow and had a nice soft vibe to it. Fire pits were a plus. What threw me off, in a good way, was the serving of mini donuts. Yeap! They straight up had a donut section. My friends were all over that. Love this place and will look forward to coming back to hangout/catch up with friends. FYI, I've read several of the 2 stars and below reviews. Most of them are personal, one off, experiences which shouldn't deter you from visiting this establishment. A lot of the reviewers hardly have any positive reviews for other establishments. I would recommend you visit this establishment and see for yourself. Should be an enjoyable and fun experience. See you at the bar!

Hmmmm...this place is ok for me. I am sure on weekend it gets pretty packed & everyone comes out. For a place to hang out by a pool and have a drink there are a couple things. The pool is pretty small - like a wide lap pool. And the drinks are expensive & there isn't a happy hour. For myself I wouldn't go all the way to the HRH just to go to Float.

Ok. I basically just spent the entire weekend at Float. It's not a huge space and there's nothing crazy awesome about it but it's super nice. There's a pool, there's a dance floor and there is a lounge area with firepits. I take back my first comment. Those things ARE actually pretty super awesome. And the drinks were crazy strong. I don't know what I paid, or if I paid but I got my money's worth of alcohol. That bartenders were nice. I've been to some bars where they stop looking at you in the eye and treat you like drunk scum but they kept it cool and fun throughout the night despite the slurring increase after every cocktail. The bathrooms were clean! And big! With plenty of stalls! I love bathrooms. Nothing I love more than a club with a good bathroom. The bathrooms itself are what pushed it to get the 5 stars. The music was great every night. The lights, the setting, and the people. It was a great crowd with great variety. Fun every night.

I went out downtown to Gaslamp on Friday with one of my girlfriends. I've been to Altitude lounge before and I really liked it so I was looking for another place that was similar and came across Float. It's located on the rooftop of the Hard Rock Hotel and it has gorgeous views of the Convention Center. We came around 11pm on Friday and there was no line and no cover charge. There's not many people which I like. I'm not really a big fan of pushing and shoving ha ha. I love the way the place is lit up with outdoor dim lighting. There's several couches and firepits near the bar and since there weren't a lot of people they were mostly vacant which was nice. I can picture this to be a really nice place to take a date since you'll have an awesome view and it's really intimate! Great for a relaxing bar amidst the crazy nightlife downtown.

I spent about 20 minutes here, and then left.... Pros: ~Bouncer let me in with no cover ~Outdoors near the pool ~Waitress in bikini tops and white pants Cons: ~Guy friends had to pay $20 each ~Outdoors, but you can't go anywhere close enough to a railing to see the view...unless you get bottle service ~All house music...usually I'm ok with it, but wasn't in the mood that night ~Pretty small venue, so its very hard to walk around people ~No good looking guys at all ~There's an exhaust pipe right where the line forms outside, so you get hit by hot air while standing in line Just not worth it. Would not come back.

Float is on my top 10 list of bars to hit in the Gaslamp, especially during the week. I like to bring my out of town visitors here and sit around the outside fire pits, enjoy the sounds and Downtown air and relax in their comfy couch like settings while enjoying my favorite drink. I have never been here on the weekend (Friday or Saturday) and I am sure this place is popular since it is located atop the Hard Rock Hotel. I've found that during the week, even when conventions are in town, it's never over-run, too busy and there is always a place to sit. Great drinks, expect the usual Downtown prices and the service is nice. The staff goes out of their way to chat it up with a bit especially since it is not as busy during the week as it gets on the weekends.

Our Fire Pit booth! Very spacious for large groups, also smoking was permitted.

Came here for a bachelorette weekend and this is probably not going to give you a "best time of your life" type of experience. To be fair, our bride to be is more relaxed so the intention of coming here was to enjoy the beautiful weather with awesome music and drinks, which we did. However, there are somethings I picked up on that I think might be helpful for someone else looking for a great place to go with the girls. 1. This place definitely has a middle aged crowd. My group consisted of sorority sisters ages 22-29, so even for a chill vibe it was a bit too mature. No one really danced they just sat around the fire and looked at one another. Lol ...however, a few of the girls from my group had no problem dancing alone. 2. The music is OKAY. The DJ played play music but nothing that would make anyone want to twerk. So if you're looking for that type of night, this is not the place for you. 3. Drinks are actually not that bad. I had a tequila sunrise and it was only $10. Overall, it's a beautiful lounge. The fire pit is a nice touch. It's small but spacious. The drinks are yummy and the service was great as well. My rating is simply based on the overall experience we had which was GREAT. It's just not a turn up location, per say, unless you and your group turn it into one that is... Who doesn't want to be the life the party anyway?!

We were staying at the Hard Rock Hotel this weekend and decided to visit the Float Rooftop Lounge located within the hotel. It's located on the 4th floor, but still provides a nice view of surrounding buildings, etc. Our hostess, Cindy, was extremely sweet and attentive right from the start. The drinks were good, but most importantly we loved the ambiance. We were sitting in front of a fire pit, which made the experience extra fun. It wasn't really busy, which was pretty surprising for us because there probably wouldn't be standing room if this lounge was located in LA. Overall, we don't have any complaints. It's a very pretty lounge with great customer service. Highly recommend giving this place a try!

My only complaint was that we didn't get to sit in the disco room--it looked so fun and was definitely one of the coolest parts of the restaurant. For food, we shared the mozzarella sticks with caviar crème fraîche ($23), which came with a surprisingly generous portion of caviar. Such an interesting layout, but it works! We got to sit at a table right next to the waterfall and pond. Our server was very nice. Probably the only slip-up in service, was that our main came out when we had barely put a dent in apps. We were probably chatting and sipping on wine too much? The expo realized, kept the mains, and said take your time. Then he brought out mains when we were ready. Everything on the menu sounded amazing. My friend and I decided to both get the steak on the hot stone. It comes out raw and you have to keep track of time to cook it how you like it. You can choose flavored salts and butters and sauces for the side. We also shared the pickled strawberry salad. It had lots of toppings, flavor, and textures. The pozole verde was also excellent.

Staff was also not very attentive to guests' needs, rather just going through the motions. For instance, they noted "standing room only" and that they would eventually seat our party of two. They walked us to an exact spot on the floor to stand and view the menu in the dark (we used our phone flashlights, but it wasn't easy while carrying our belongings too), and they instructed us not to order at the bar in this colorful but dimly lit tiki lounge. We essentially ordered from staff who took our order in the middle of the floor, then we had to hold our drinks, some that came with additional shot glasses, in full hands, as we were never seated. We did find a barrel to set our drinks on later, but their process and expectations for guests was just really weird and impractical. The theme and decor of the setting was lovely, with moments of a lightning and thunder effect that made the experience more immersive. But we were not impressed by the sticky menus and sticky floor, nor the lack of service and minimal help from staff while there. We made the most of our time at False Idol regardless of their shortcomings. The bombay sling and enigma de muerte were pretty decent in quality and flavor, so it's safe to say the drinks aren't the problem here. And though we probably won't return, it was cool for a one-time experience.

While visiting San Diego with friends, we came here after hearing so many great things. There was a short wait, which was fine. The four of us were seated at a small standing table, also fine. Behind us were two guys drinking at the standing bar. One of them bumped into my friend and then stroked her arm while apologizing. She was visibly uncomfortable, so I told her to switch places with me. The guy immediately said, "We're gay, so you don't have to worry," then turned to his friend and said, "Now he looks so stupid and embarrassing." I told him, "I don't think it's embarrassing to make sure your friends are comfortable," then turned back around. I didn't argue with him, insult him, or continue the conversation. I thought that was the end of it. A few minutes later, the manager came over and told us we had made comments that made other patrons uncomfortable and asked us to leave. We had already paid for our drinks and were still waiting for them. My friend followed the manager to ask what was going on, and I joined shortly after. The person complaining was, of course, the same guy who had bumped into her. He was clearly drunk and started rambling about how we had made homophobic comments toward him and his friend. This was especially ridiculous considering the friend I switched places with was there with her girlfriend. We calmly explained exactly what happened. The manager did not care. There was no real attempt to hear our side, ask questions, or figure out what actually happened. The decision had clearly already been made. While we were speaking to the manager, the guy who complained was cheerfully talking with one of the bartenders, receiving a to-go meal, and greeting them cheek to cheek. He very obviously appeared to know the staff. So that seems to be how things work here: a drunk regular or friend of the staff can make up whatever story he wants, and management will throw out an entire group of paying customers without even pretending to investigate. They refunded the drinks, which was the bare minimum. The ambience was nice, but that means absolutely nothing when the staff handles customers this poorly. Awful management, blatant favoritism, and easily the worst service I have ever experienced. I would never come back, and I would strongly warn anyone who isn't already friends with the staff to stay away.

From the spooky, dark, skulls old school ambiance and decor, to the experience of not ordering from a menu, everything about it made it feel unique and curated making it feel like a true individualized experience. As mentioned, there are no menus. We sat at the bar, the bartender makes casual conversation with you regarding the types of drinks you enjoy. He curated something for both my husband and I based on what we shared we enjoyed. The drinks were delicious. The entry was very cool! It felt as if you were entering a hidden spot - which you do. When you enter the restaurant, you let the hostess know you're there for the Noble Experience. She let us know to head to the wall with the kegs (which is actually a door). You enter and there's a small waiting area where you're greeted by another hostess. This place is a 20/10. We can't wait to return on our next visit to SD.
