I stopped by after a concert I attended near by with a group of friends. It was around 10:30pm and there was no line to get in on a Thursday evening. There was security checking ID's and he was nice. Once inside the music was going and they were teaching a group of people line dancing. The bathrooms were clean. There are pool tables if you want to take a break from dancing to enjoy yourself. The bar was not crowded which was nice. Everyone seemed friendly. I liked that they had a Photo Booth too. I can see myself coming back soon.

MOONSHINE FLATS @ DOWNTOWN SAN DIEGO Parking in the area is mostly metered, though you might be able to find a few free street spots if you're lucky. You can also park at Ace Parking, which costs around $30-$40. Moonshine Flats is one of the most popular bars in San Diego. I went to the Pacific Beach location before and loved the vibe, so I was excited to check out the downtown spot, especially after hearing so much about it. Luckily, there wasn't a long line on a Saturday around 9 PM, so we got in easily. The space itself was great, spacious, with multiple bars, and really well-decorated. As a college student, though, this wasn't exactly my scene. The crowd seemed older, mostly in the 30-40 age range, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking to hang out with fellow college students. That said, Moonshine Flats is still a fun place to visit and worth checking out for the atmosphere alone.

We came here for my 30th Birthday weekend. The bartenders are friendly and their drinks are great here and we had nice seats here. It definitely gets busy here at night. Just love the country vibes here

moonshine flats - always come with my sister and I always have fun! beers are decently priced. dancers are always great to watch! i like when they have nights they teach us dances. great customer service! fun arcade and beer pong games!!! bean bag toss, pool, cup pong. dj in the other section plays r&b, pop. definitely a more chill, casual vibe :)

This place is fun! The line dancing is a good time. They go too fast though and don't teach well. Very hard to pick up the dances they do They don't have a separate area to dance so your stuck watching people line dance or trying to learn and It's hard I wish they would offer a free style area to have fun dancing at as well It was a fun time though

Best country bar in San Diego! Line dancing, live music, great staff, great drinks. The place you to be on a weekend night! I've been going for years and staff members like Hannah Bergman always make it a good time. If country music isn't your thing, the DJ takes over late at night on the weekends to keep the party going. There is something for everyone here. If you're downtown, not stopping by would be a huge mistake!

Taking a trip to San Diego and considering visiting this bar. Is it strictly line dancing or is country swing/ partner 2 step welcomed?

When I've been here there is more line dancing than not, mostly due to the crowds. I have been able to do some partner dances, usually before it gets too busy. If you're coming on the weekend and want to partner dance, I'd get here early!

    Is it 18+?

It is 21+. But the restaurant/bar connect to Moonshine Flatts, The Moonshine Deck, is under 21 until around 9pm! That is where all the fun is and the roof opens! All kinds of fun games and good food with great mocktails! One of our favorites.

How crowded is the dance floor usually?

I'm from out of town so I can't speak but for my one visit. At 11pm it was half full of dancers and half full of people mingling. When certain dances came on (ie line dances) non-dancers moved off the floor though. My initial impression was that…

Our group was surprised as is was 2115, it's been open for about an hour and a half and packed. As you enter this old law office down a staircase one would find the "speakeasy statutes/rules" to maintain the 1920s atmosphere-- we loved the setting, the people, the drinks, and of course the live music!! One would not be disappointed. The cocktail menu was on an old record, which I thought it was so clever. Back to the rules, seems pretty easy! They mention to keep an open mind with the drinks as they do not carry vodkas, redbull, Budweiser or bulls**t. Mentioned a dresscode, more so be classic and states be respectful and don't be a di*k. I couldn't agree more with the rules. I don't think there is good at this establishment, as our group just came from dinner I wasn't looking for food. Just spirits, live music and a good time. Too cute with trying to do the prohibition/speakeasy menu. It did take a while to get drinks when it was packed. Understandable. But I had a few that were good, the boats and hoes, and keffir lime tequila drink were great. I would say that the bathroom had a bit of a stink to it...not sure what it was but smelled just like coming up from the pipes. May just be a basement issue. Overall, good experience. Extremely disappointing experience, $2,000 spent for unacceptable service…read more We came to Onyx Room in San Diego to celebrate a birthday with 20 friends and had a bottle service table reserved. We spent approximately $2,000, expecting a great experience, but the service was extremely disappointing. After our first set of bottles was delivered, our waitress barely checked on us. We were left without cups, chasers, or anyone attending to our table. About 1.5 hours later, the next set of bottles was finally brought out -- again, with no cups or chasers. We repeatedly had to chase down staff just to get the basic necessities for our table. The situation became so frustrating that my girlfriend and I eventually had to go into the private staff area to address the issue directly. The promoter eventually offered us two bottles of champagne to make up for the inconvenience, but by then there were only about 40 minutes left before closing, making the gesture far too late to meaningfully fix the experience. What made it even more frustrating was the automatic 20% gratuity added to our approximately $2,000 bill, despite the fact that we received very little table service and spent much of the night trying to get staff's attention. We understand that nightclubs get busy, but when you're spending this much money on bottle service, you should not have to repeatedly ask for cups, chasers, or basic service. If you're considering Onyx Room for a special occasion or planning to spend significant money on bottle service, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere in San Diego. I hope management reviews what happened and considers a meaningful partial refund or discount on what we spent, because two bottles of champagne with 40 minutes remaining did not adequately compensate for the experience.

Came here for a Birthday dinner last Saturday night with a large group (~20+ people), the food and…read moredrinks were amazing and can't say enough how much I appreciate the staff and service here. Ruby was the first person I spoke with when I initially called, and she was lovely. The general manager Amber made planning easy - there were no deposits or minimums, I was able to order platters in advance, and she was great with communication. When I mentioned that the group loved Rumplemintz shots, Amber even set some aside after ordering extra bottles (and had it cold and ready when we came in). I was able to meet and thank Amber after we first came in, and she was so warm and welcoming and even gave us a few Rumplemintz shots on the house to kick things off (thank you again, Amber!). The reviews don't lie in terms of how good the food here is. When we arrived a little early, they had our platters ready almost immediately and kept them well-heated. We had platters of the sticky garlic wings and a mix of the garlic and regular fries, and ordered pretzels and queso and the elote dip à la carte for the tables. Everything was amazing and the sticky garlic wings and garlic fries were such a hit that we ordered a few extra plates of them as well (even though the platters were perfect for our group size). EVERYONE raved about them. We had a small amount left to bring home that were enjoyed the next evening and were still amazing after being reheated. A few people in our party got additional food items as well (burgers) and they were hits as well. The drinks were also phenomenal, with a special shoutout for the espresso martini and the Purple Haze mocktail (that a few folks liked so much they got an alcoholic version). We had a person in our group who can't drink and it was nice to see how inclusive they are with having a few signature mocktail options. The pricing was very reasonable, especially for the platters (they were perfectly sized, and we only ordered a little extra because the food was so good and we'd wanted to take some home). Highly recommend getting platters with a larger group here - you can pre-order and they keep everything well-heated for you the whole time. Most importantly, this place is a vibe and every single staff member we interacted with was SO KIND and accommodating. The service was top-notch and I wish I had everyone's names to thank them individually (thanks to everyone working Saturday, 8/1 evening!). We had the best time and Werewolf couldn't have been a more perfect place to host a Birthday dinner.

We randomly came across Side Bar on a Thursday night and met Blake the manager who introduced us to Keagan, who completely transformed our entire trip. He was the ultimate curator! He immediately assessed our group's vibe, realized we were out for team bonding, and invited us right in, securing a fantastic VIP booth for my team. After a few shots and grooving to great music, he personally ushered us over to Gaslamplighter for a change of scenery, where we spent the rest of the night enjoying amazing drinks and live karaoke. The experience was so incredible that on our second night out, after hopping around various other bars in the Gaslamp Quarter, our team unanimously decided to end our night right back at Side Bar. Once again, Keagan took flawless care of us. He hooked us up with another booth and a few bottles. We happened to be celebrating a team member's birthday that night, and Keagan made it unforgettable. The staff brought out the full VIP treatment with bright sparklers and "Happy Birthday" signs to close out the night in style. What makes Keagan so special is his attention to detail. Even while working a packed club and making his rounds to ensure everyone was taken care of, he constantly circled back to check on our group. He made every single person on our team feel incredibly important and looked after on both nights. We walked away with fantastic pictures, amazing team memories, and a strong desire to return. Shout out to Keagan and the exceptional teams at both Side Bar and Gaslamplighter; memories were truly made! I highly recommend these venues for any group outing in downtown San Diego.
