I had made reservations for my wife's birthday. This was the first time we had been to double cut. First. We waited for almost 30 minutes past the reservation time for our table. We waited in the lounge area where there was a very loud karaoke type entertainer which was a little off putting. Both the long wait and the "entertainment" was a new experience I had not seen in any fine dining establishment. With the reservation, I had requested a bottle of Perrier-Jouet, as well as the dessert to be served as a birthday cake. This was put in the notes when the reservation was made and confirmed after the debacle. Both items ended being missed. Next, the server was essentially reading the menu from memory, which was bizarre. Initially I was wanting the advertised butcher's cut, which I found out was not a butcher's cut, i.e. hanger steak, but just the steak of the day. I would have thought a steak restaurant would know the difference. I ordered the NY strip and received a filet minion. They took it back to fire the correct steak and left the sides to sit at the table and get cold while waiting for the entree. The potatoes flaked off in chunks when serving. I am assuming they were dropped in boiling water, instead of putting in cold water and brought to a boil to release the starch, combined with the amount of butter, but not correctly whipped with cream/milk. Just poor execution. The cream sauce in the spinach was congealed and had broken. I sent it all back and waited for my wife to enjoy her crab so I could get a meal elsewhere at that point. Finally, the dessert was sent on a cheap plate with "Happy Anniversary" printed to look like it was done with icing, as every other fine dining establishment we have been do does, aside from the fact it was intended as a birthday celebration. Beyond disappointed. I went to Double Cut with some girlfriends for our ladies night out. Our agenda was to have a quick dinner and hop over to the piano bar to enjoy the rest of our evening. Little did we know we would spend 3 hours here primarily due to the poor and slow service. This included 15 minutes waiting for our table beyond our reservation, an hour of waiting for our food after ordering, and 45 minutes waiting for our ticket after asking for it. (I have text timestamps of this all on my phone) Not only was timing an issue, when the food finally came, the soup and salads came out with the entrees. So my filet was cold by the time I got to it. I ordered a Caesar salad and a kid's portion filet (4oz) with mashed potatoes. (Great option if you are not too hungry). The salad was good and the filet and mashed potatoes were also alright (albeit cold). We were a group of 7 girls and all paying separate. This led to epic confusion from the waiter. He ended up just bringing a stack of checks to the table and having us try to figure out whose was each, and nearly all had additional or missing items. During the 45 mins we sat there while that was being sorted out, we all had empty drinks, no water, and several plates still on the table. I'm always excited to try a new steakhouse and after perusing the menu before coming there were quite a few items that peaked my interest. Overall I would start by saying everything we tried except for the creamed corn was good, but also nothing wow'd me. With the premise that everything was good, I will simply point out the things that I didn't fully care for on some of the items. The carpacchio I felt was not a traditional carpacchio and was over done with toppings. The calamari and rock shrimp I would have preferred without the bits of vegetables. The filet mignon was tender, but lacked flavor. The table bread, mushrooms, creamed spinach, fries and prime rib I would consider coming back for. The creamed corn was undercooked and not really creamy. I would definitely not ever order this again. The pecan dessert may have been the highlight. It was delicious. I don't usually comment or rate based on the ambiance, but I will point out a couple things for those that care. The set up of the booths were all in a row and was more fitting of a Sizzler than an upscale steak house. In my opinion, bringing food out on plastic rolling carts is also not indicative of fine dining and a big no no. read more

Would definitely recommend making a reservation. The staff are AMAZING and FRIENDLY! Our server Mercedes was GREAT. We started with their Hanging Bacon and Citrus Poached Jumbo Shrimp. All I can say is DELISH! The bread that comes with the appetizer is yummy as well. Hubby ordered the Tomahawk (Medium Rare and served on a cutting board) and it comes with 3 sides. He selected the creamed corn, truffle fries and broccoli. I ordered the Porterhouse (Medium Well) with brussel sprouts and their hash browns (added bacon and chives). The drink of choice was unsweetened tea and hubby had a Samuel Adams. For dessert, their Texas Sized Chocolate Cake...MMMM MMMM GOOD! Double Cut is a great place for a date night, meeting, a small gathering and/or just plain fun. They have a great selection of cocktails and bourbon. There is a gentleman who plays the keyboard and sings. He's not too bad. Just be prepared to spend some money, it's definitely worth it. We will definitely be going back. read more

I had high hopes for this place. We started off great with the French onion and Lobster bisque soups. The Lobster soup was a bit heavy on the salt. I ordered their special steak for the night which was the bone in rib eye with a truffle sauce. Wow, at first bite all I tasted was salt. Definitely over seasoned and I couldn't move on to take another bite. I had my mom try a piece and she couldn't eat it either. We had 3 sides: balsamic glazed Brussel sprouts (ok), truffle fries wit aioli (salty) and the mushrooms (ok). Dishing up on the low grade dishes at insanely exorbitant prices!! We went here thinking we were to have a great steakhouse experience. People were walking in like they'd come from the pool... and THEY HAD! Turns out they're attached to a giant indoor water park. So there was the 1st red flag. Fabulous steakhouses are not synonymous with water pee-parks. So, not a fine steakhouse kinda establishment. OK so make do right? One thing we wanted to order (prime rib) was not available we were told. Meanwhile a large portion of their menu is promoting PR. Only on weekends they said. And why aren't they disclosing this on their online menu? Our server went into what they described as a "conversation" about the menu before we ordered, which was a unnecessary and convoluted explanation of what they were out and how to order - bizarre. Quickly surmising the questionable experience we were about to encounter, we established this was, in no way, a place you drop $100-$200+ for a single one of their steaks. So we discernibly opted for their burger and set the bar low. And ohhh crikey... Disaster and saving grace in one. The later saved us from being gouged for a ridiculously bad meal, even though it was a disaster and we still had a ridiculously awful meal. The burgers arrived glistening with grease covering the buns. Just trying to remove the bun left our hands looking like they were covered in oil or fat of some kind. The burger looked mechanically formed and unappealing. The one bite confirmed it was not anything anyone should eat. They were also not cooked as requested but were horribly overcooked -- *imagine this would've/couldn've been a $100+ incinerated steak. Then there were the fries. Dis-gusting. The oil used was so old that that they smelled and were an oily saturated mess. Really awful. This place is a disaster in restaurant incompetency. Failures aty every staffing level. First, the kitchen should absolutely know this was s**t slop they were throwing out, and they knew it. We later told the manager a big mac and fries was finer than what we were served. Second, the server's job is the 2nd line of quallity control to visually inspect that the customer's order is both acceptable and correct. If it is not both it's their JOB to get it corrected before bringing it to the customer. They did neither. Thirdly, a good manager who knows their profession will constantly be overseeing the kitchen to ensure quality control coming out of it meets the required standards of that establishment. This was a 3rd stage failure of mismanaged carelessness. Then they wanted us to consider ordering something else. Our response: If you can't even cook a burger correctly, you absolutely can't cook a $200 steak correctly. They staff were pleasant but also shockingly clueless, which equals incompetency. Everyone pointing to the other for responsibility, when each & all failed, then passed on to another next person who failed. We both literally had one bite of the food, it was that awful. So imagine then the server, who we tipped well regardless, making sure we weren't leaving until knowing that we had the go-ahead first and gotten our slop comp'd before leaving... Really?! Of course it's being comp'd... we had literally one bite and had to spit it out! So, of course we're not paying... And you were given a 40% tip still!!! We're not ignoramuses - We're like fine dining and happy to pay for it. But this is not fine dining. This place is a mess. It is not a fine steakhouse by any stretch. And the staff are not either - nice but don't make the cut. Any simple basic steak place like a Texas Roadhouse, Outback, or Longhorn, all serve up better food than this grossly exaggerated facade. read more

We went in hoping for fine dining.....waited at least 20 minutes just to get drinks, served rotten tomatoes on salads (they only replaced tomatoes- not salad), person who delivered food kept reaching across table over everyone, his elbows in peoples faces and had no idea who ordered what, nor did he know what 'chives' were when we asked for them, no one asked if steaks were correct temperature after they were served, few additional condiments took so long for someone to bring that food was cold by the time they arrived, no dirty dishes or glassware were cleared, and we had to clear them ourselves, placing them on table next to us. Waitress wanted to just give us boxes instead of wrapping food to go for table. She mumbled offering coffee to one person and didn't offer to entire table. At this point almost 3 hours later, the experience was disappointing. Fine dining at its WORST!! Service was absolutely terrible. Our bill was over $500 for a party of six. One expects attention to detail and fine dining etiquette from the wait staff when paying $52 for filet and $18 for a glass of wine. We tried restaurant last year when they first opened- same problems, but we gave them the benefit that they had just opened and still weren't trained. Overall, I would go to Flemings or Perry's I would not recommend this steak house for fine dining - just exhorbitant prices with low class service. A true disappointment. read more

My fiancé and I have been here maybe 10X. We will never go back. We booked a reservation 2 months in advance for Valentines. They couldn't seat us on time, no worries we waited. After 10 minutes, we watched hosts and servers yelling that they had no tables and started carrying them in from the Piano bar next door. 20minutes after we arrived I watched couples who checked in after us get seated. I checked back with the host 10minutes after that & they said their texts weren't going thru to my phone. Lie, they never messaged me. But again we just wanted to eat so no worries, Another 15minutes later we were shown to one of four tiny tables located against a wall that we had watched the staff carry in. Note, there were two empty booths and other empty tables which weren't carried in from the bar. I asked if we could sit somewhere else, the server asked the host. They said sorry the booths were reserved. I had requested a booth (2 months ago) and asked the host when we arrived now 50 minutes prior. We weren't willing to pay $$$'s a steak to sit with our arms against a wall, back to back with other folks all at table the size of a shoebox. We left and went somewhere else. Not the way I wanted to spend my first Valentine's Day post engagement. If you're local (and don't mind a drive) I'd recommend Capital Grill, Carve, Perry's and Trulucks. read more

After we sat down and ordered wine, drinks, and appetizers, the waiter came back to take the order. Only then were we made aware that EVERY dry aged steak cut was unavailable. My husband desperately wanted to order a steak that he had seen on the website, but we were also informed that the porterhouse and the butcher cut were also 86d. It is customary at a nicer establishment to let diners know that menu items are not available when they receive the menu. We came here for steak specifically and were disappointed. The tuna tartare appetizer had ranch on it for some reason? The best part of the meal was the bread. We even had to return the kids' pasta because it appeared to have been cooked yesterday. Normally, at an above average restaurant, they grind pepper on your item. The pepper grinder on the table was empty. My husband got up and got another pepper grinder from the next table over, it was empty as well. On the third try, we finally found a pepper grinder for ourselves that had anything in it. We went tonight for Father's day dinner. It was an awful experience. We ordered salads and one appetizer, and they all came at the same time. We then waited over 45 mins for our entrees and sides. The food had been sitting in the window forever. The filet was overcooked, lobster was ice cold, hollandaise sauce on asparagus was hard. The creamed spinach and lobster mac and cheese were absolute crap. So salty, they were unedible. The only thing that was good was the wine because they didn't make it. I love food and don't mind spending good money on it, but over $400.00 on this garbage is ridiculous. The service was mediocre at best. We were offered a free desert for our troubles. No thanks... Let me start by saying we did go on Mothers day and it was at 9PM at the end of what I am sure was a long day, but that's not to allow them a excuse for the poor experience we received. We were excited to see Kalahari open and as a local I was excited like I'm sure the folks are in Orlando that Disney is in their back yard and I could look forward to family trips and grandkids experiencing the park. We made reservation with open table and got seated close to the time and in in the bar area as I guess they were closing stations, so not the best seat they had to offer I suspect, but it was nice to be with the family. We ordered drinks and a bar drink and i could have driven home and got one before it made it to the table. We had no silverware when the apps came and i had to asked several times for a napkin and a fork. Our server was very friendly but was either overworked, understaffed, or too new. He went missing at the end of the meal as he said he had to run halfway across the complex to another restaurant? Not sure if he had tables there or was bussing something over, but a manager should have clearly done that task or covered for him in his absence. We ordered a lot of food and the runners ran it over which is fine, i asked the runner for a steak knife as i guess they are by request but you figured maybe bring a few with the tomahawk steak? He never returned so my son used his fork for a steak lollipop until the server came and asked how everything was and i said we need steak knives. he brought then over and we began to eat. Let me say the 2 stars are definitely not reflected in the food. The chef was amazing and the food is five star flavorful. We wanted dessert, but definitely not willing to go through any more service so we left without. The food was definitely worth the $500 ticket, but the service was Denny's bad. I blame the management which when we left was standing by the host stand, so obviously not engaged. I never saw them walk the floor, no one ever came by to check on us, so lots of training need for fine dining there. So let me tell you how this affects us moving forward, I do not plan to ever return to Double Cuts and i think if the fine dining is not up to par, I am sure the rest of the park probably has sub par standards as well so we will not be visiting with family and friends moving forward as planned. Maybe after a few years it can mature into a great park as my extended family keeps saying they love Kalahari in other states. If you have a special day or event, head to Z Tejas or Flemings, or any of the other fine dining locations in Austin, you'll be better served, literally. ;-) read more
