About four years ago, I had Double B's and absolutely loved it. It was my family's go to for barbecue. The food was flavorful. You could smell the smoke as you hit the door and it was tender. Service was good, but today I had it and to me it was frozen or burnt. I had my favorite burnt ends and they actually were not tender, chewy and they taste like they were from a package. I also had a rack of baby back ribs, which is usually fall off the bone melt in your mouth, tender. I couldn't even eat half of it because it was kind of tough (did a lot of chewing). This is very disappointing because I absolutely love this restaurant, but for prices and what I experienced with my items, it would be hard to go back. We had an event that we wanted catered. The theme was Ribs and Bibs. We have eaten in house prior and we're big fans of many dishes. So we had chosen a day that drop off catering was not an option but we were offered a cold pick-up. I was a little concerned and slightly afraid of that option but my daughter talked me into it. We were very happy with the results. The guests enjoyed their meal. The folks at the restaurant made pick up super easy and they were all so kind and helpful. Everything is thoughtfully packaged up for traveling. We couldn't have asked for a better outcome. The ribs and pulled pork were outstanding. This barbecue was absolutely spectacular. Mom went for the pulled pork sandwich while I had it on a plate with mac and cheese on the side. It also came with slaw and a very delicious cornbread muffin. The sauce is separate, but they have a wide variety to choose from so that you can be sure to get something you'll like! We also got the burnt ends which we absolutely to die for, you simply must try them. Had my first experience at Double B's recently and I'm so glad I did! Double B's a hole in the wall sort of joint located on Greenfield Ave. in West Allis (conveniently a few doors down from Aggie's Bakery and Cake shop--enjoy some BBQ and then head down a few doors for some dessert to go?). They're a super popular spot (with good reason) so reservations are recommended. We had reservations for early one Saturday evening. We made our reservations in the 5 o'clock hour in the hopes of avoiding the crowds. That said, they're popular and we arrived to an already full house. Not to worry, we were seated within a couple of minutes of arrival. They have a full bar and so I ordered their negroni (solid) while my dining companion enjoyed a Manhattan (really lovely). For our dinner, I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of their mac and cheese. My dining companion opted for their pulled chicken platter. Our server talked us through their variety of sauces (something for every taste!). I added my favorite of their sauces to my sandwich and then dove in. It was delicious! It doesn't have quite as much of a smoky flavor that I typically enjoy with my bbq, but wonderful, none-the-less. The mac and cheese side was cheesy deliciousness and just the right amount (a small cup). For heartier appetites, I'd recommend doing their platter or ordering multiple sides! This is probably one of the best kept secrets of BBQ in Milwaukee. It's nestled in West Allis and recently moved one door over to a bigger space. If you haven't been since they remodeled it's definitely worth checking out. The old fashioned selection is incredible so when in WI you must try one. I tried two of them but my favorite was the maple bourbon with cider which I will try to recreate at home because it was so delicious! It wasn't overpoweringly sweet - just a nice subtle hint of maple with the offset of the cider. Now that you've settled in for a drink it's time to order some incredible BBQ. At a Yelp Elite event years ago I got turned onto this place and had my first smoked bacon wrapped meatball which became an instant favorite. It's probably my favorite item on the menu. Next I did the ribs along with burnt ends with mac and cheese. The ribs are done competition style which I adore and trust me they don't need any sauce. If you are a saucy person you can choose your favorite poison from the bottles. Mac and cheese is just plain great comfort food and they do it right. The cornbread muffins are so good that our friend ordered two to take home with her. I am not a huge coleslaw fan so I won't be the judge of that one but my friends who love the slaw thought it was epic. It's definitely worth a short trip to Stallis to get some good BBQ so next time avoid your normal go-to places and give this gem a try. read more

Coming from the south, I have been looking for great bbq for almost a year now. This is definitely the best I have found in the Milwaukee area! Their pulled pork, burnt ends, and even their shrimp and grits were to die for. ALL of their sauces were amazing as well! However, the brisket was well over cooked and not much flavor at all. No bark, no juice, and was like eating a tender piece of jerky. BBQ is not a Midwest thing I have come to find out, but other than the brisket this is the closest you are going to get around here! We went to double B's for the first time the other day. Our waiter was really informative and very nice.. My husband had the burnt ends., the flavor was excellent, although he felt they were a little too fatty for him. I had the sliced brisket, which was outstanding.. their corn muffins are to die for, as well as the baked beans. I did not really care for their pecan pie because they smoke the pecans in the smoker, which would be fine except they must do it with the meat. It actually tasted like brisket in the pie, so I was not impressed. However, I am very picky about my desserts.! oh and we had a good time. We absolutely love Double B's. It is our very favorite "smoked style" BBQ restaurant in Milwaukee and has been since Mark and his wife opened the spot several years back. First and foremost, understand that this BBQ restaurant has SMOKED bbq; which is not to be confused with an establishment that grills their meat, only, or cooks it in an oven (a la Pitch's). Though the meat is smoked, when served, it IS finished on a grill or broiler, but I'm not sure about which method is used. Those of you that don't like smoked meat.... well, be forewarned. I love the spare ribs here. I'm a traditionalist and I think that spareribs, when cooked correctly, are the standard test for a "pit master's" expertise, compared to back ribs. And the owner/pit master here, Mark, is spot on. The spareribs are butchered "St. Louis" style, so the tough cartilage and hard-to-eat breastbone part of the ribs is trimmed off before it is cooked. I love the "burnt ends" (brisket). Honestly, best I've ever had, consistently, from visit to visit. I've had brisket (slices) here, as well, that is right up there with the best smoked brisket I've ever eaten, but I believe the "burnt ends" is superior to many other places I've been to. Double B's is now my standard for bbq restaurant "burn ends." Other outstanding food items: Beans, coleslaw and corn bread. The corn bread is not always consistently the best I've had; it is sometimes a bit dry, but the flavor is always excellent. Side veggies are always good, too. Over the years, I've loved their collared greens, sweet potatoe and, of course, their cole slaw. We like sitting at the bar, having a drink or two, and eating our meal there. We particularly like bartender Wendy, who is a very dedicated, serious minded and obviously loyal employee who has great people skills and tenaciously takes care of business. Absolutely delicious! I ordered the brisket platter for takeout, with a side of smashed potatoes plus a corn muffin and Cole slaw. The brisket was so tender and they honored my request for extra lean, and there was no fat! I enjoyed the buttery smashed potatoes. My choice for the spicy sauce did not disappoint, it was tasty with a hint of heat which worked well for me. The corn muffin was small but mighty, a little sweet. So, I read so many other's favorable reviews. I felt that I had to try this out. Especially since decent barbecue (bbq) is difficult to come by in the Milwaukee area. I had the beef brisket platter. Which was lean, but not too dry. It comes with one side. The ranch beans were good. Also accompanying the platter is a corn muffin, and a smaller dollop of coleslaw. There are at least four kinds of barbecue sauce to suit your barbecue fix tastes. I enjoyed the one that I had which was like a sweeter sauce. But not too sweet. I will say that the smaller barrel aged Negroni drink is quite good. I don't mind spending a little bit more money for really good food. I felt that I got this here. Ben with a big well groomed beard, he was behind the bar. And, he also had helped us out. He's very personable to talk with. Good service. We were looking for a local BBQ spot while visiting Waukesha. I googled best BBQ near me and Double D's popped up and it was totally correct! This place doesn't miss a detail! The meat is incredible and fabulous smoke flavor. Various sauces all unique and great. I'm picky about coleslaw but this one is great and very creamy. I had read about the desserts online and decided we needed to bring some home for later. The bread pudding and sauce was wonderful and the pecan pie was sensational. I've never had pecan pie with the nut being more chopped. It was amazing. Not only is the food great but the experience was enhanced by the incredible staff. Our server Maisy was so efficient and pleasant. All the staff seem to work together to make our experience great. The owner even stopped by and visited with us! The atmosphere is very warm and cozy, tastefully decorated with great music in the background. And I've never seen such a clean BBQ restaurant.
