Third wave coffee in St. Augustine--who knew? So glad we stopped in on the way out of town. It was wonderful. I lugged my pour over filters, hand grinder, and Aeropress in my suitcase and brought beans from my favorite roaster for fear of not having good coffee during my stay. Dos made me shut my mouth! Nitro cold brew (brewed in their Kyoto setup), roasting on site...they know what they're doing. The space is big, with lots of seating indoors and out. Add free wifi for customers, and you've got a nice spot to hang for a bit. I had a tasty nitro cold brew and what was possibly the best guava-cheese pastry I've ever had in my life. They said they make their baked goods in-house, and they do it well. Next time I'm back in St. Augustine, I'll be sure to visit for food and wine, too. And I'll definitely return for a cortado. read more

This coffee shop is so cute!! It was outside of the busy part of town so that was a nice change. They had a large parking lot and pretty large building. There were many different options for coffee and a decent amount of options for syrup flavors. They also offered a pretty wide variety of bakery options for breakfast for those in search of a bite to eat with their coffee. Also love the linguist and San John bocadillos. Bogo mimosas on Sunday. Nice craft beer selection. Awesome and really inexpensive cold brew compared to other coffee places in town. The staff is great. Some learned my name really quickly, which made me feel at home. I dig the chill vibe inside and out. They could use better ventilation as you'll smell a bit like coffee when you leave. They also need more power outlets. I have been intending to try Dos for years, really since it opened up a while back but never found the occasion. I was excited to give it a shot this past weekend. I ordered a small iced soy chai and had a salted chocolate chip cookie. Both items were delicious. They have water available at a self-serve station for all customers which I thought was a great touch. The space has a very comfortable coffee shop vibe, perfect for college students needing to do some homework or for a casual business meeting. Plenty of couches, high top tables, as well as regular four person tables. There are a few reasons I am rating Dos as only two stars. The food and drink items I had, although good quality, were a bit expensive. For my small drink and cookie I paid about $8.00. The service was slow although there were multiple people working and although I believe the party in front of me may have contributed to the long wait, the staff seemed to let that annoyance carry over into our interaction. Overall this place was more hip and unique than a Starbucks, but was not overly impressed. read more

I often go to Dos Coffee to get work done. The atmosphere is perfect for the entrepreneur who wants to get out of the house but still have social interaction. Best time to go is mid morning to early afternoon when there is minimal foot traffic and its not too loud. Last week I was there for most of the day lunch included The xxx BLT: prosciutto, provolone, romaine, tomato and a Nitro cold brew. They have a variety of coffee, wine and craft beer. Food selection is light yet healthy including filling choices of sandwiches, salads and pastry's. Mostly you will see students and work lunches taking place. What intrigued me was the Parlor Room, a beautiful event venue that can be rented out for special events. They roast coffee on site and have a sister coffee house downtown called Relampago. read more

This place is very cool and has a hipster vibe it's also very "crunchy" if you know what I mean like vegan...but they do have good coffee and an interesting selection of little bites to eat such as sandwiches, soups and pastries. Don't go here if you want Starbucks type customer service and selection but of course if you wanted to go to Starbucks you would go... if you want to chill with your laptop, an organic zucchini muffin and some cold brew check it out sometime. Had some extra time to kill in St. Augustine, and decided to try a local coffee shop. Let me start with the positive: the decor is very mid-century modern. The seating area is HUGE for the average coffee joint. Lots of tables, large and small, and multiple big leather couches that look comfortable. Perfect place do get some work done. They had a nice variety of wines and some tasty looking pastries. Since I was headed to dinner, I only ordered a vanilla soy latte (large). Free water in to-go cups were available at the coffee bar with half & half and sugars. With all of this, there is plenty of potential. Now the bad...I should disclose that I was a barista for almost five years and I can be a little high maintenance when it comes to coffee. Regardless, I think our experience was bad and has unfortunately solidified my opinion. Okay, here we go: we waited in line for over ten minutes when there was only two people ahead of us. That's a long time for a coffee shop. There were plenty of people working, I saw at least four employees around, and only one taking orders and one making drinks. The other two were just chatting it up as we stood there. One of them could have easily come over and started our drink order, used a second register, or at the least just greet us so we know they see us. Secondly, when we were able to order (we were the last in line by the way), the barista rushed us along and was anything but friendly. My friend wanted to order a drink and a pastry and she kept getting cut off with "okay your total is ___" after the drink and she was had to awkwardly ask to add to her bill. Someone shouldn't feel uncomfortable wanting to buy more stuff! When my drink came, it had over an inch of space between the top of the cup and the actual latte. I understand the safety of not filling it to the brim, but I definitely felt jipped with my large order being so much less. Additionally, my cup was dirty with espresso fingerprints all over it. This makes me think that either the barista is using a dirty cup, or her dirty hands have touched the contents of my beverage. To avoid this, should could have poured into another cup easily to keep it looking clean. Overall the service set a bad tone, but the lack of cleanliness on the drink is what made the final decision for me. read more

This place has a cozy and inviting rustic/industrial feel that I love. The latte is fantastic: smooth, perfect temperature, perfect amount of caffeine. They have great music and a wide open atmosphere that is not really available in other coffeeshops. But let's get down to business, I came here for two reasons and one was the coffee. I was hoping the bathroom would fit the aesthetic but it only hit that note halfway. It felt as if they just acquired bathrooms and were still trying to figure out what to do with them. There were some things in there that fit the theme, but nothing that really flowed from the outside in. The pressure in the porcelain throne was concerning, but it did the job. I would definitely recommend a courtesy flush or two. However, it was clean, private, quiet, had all the hygienics one would need. They have hard boiled eggs ( cage free) for us protein nuts. The sandwiches are so tasty .... I don't eat bread but here I will! I have not drilled them on the pastries and chocolates yet so I cannot say much there. Scratch Kitchen has joined them so this is THE SPOT to eat food made with love. This is not the highest reviewed cafe in St. Augustine on Yelp. That goes to The Kookaburra[3] . Dos is a ~2 year old cafe with a roaster attached to the side operated by another person. Next month, they are taking over roasting themselves and have bought a roaster capable of handling their daily customers but also enough to start doing online sales of whole bean fresh-roasted coffee. Offerings @ Dos include Pour-Over, Drip, Espresso drinks, Cold brew (via Japanese Siphon setup). They offer blends as well as single-origin coffees. There is an on-site pastry and dessert chef daily and you can buy their whole bean coffee to go. Double Espresso: 7/10. Lacked the creamy texture I was expecting but plenty of acidity. Nice fudge like chocolate taste with a little saltiness. (FYI, I was told by owner before giving my criticisms that the roaster next door changed the espresso blend and he hadn't yet tweaked the espresso pull to compensate. He offered a replacement shot) Cold-Brew: 7/10 Served via Keg on Nitro (similar to Guinness). Added a really creamy mouthfeel, maybe too much ice as it was already cold and half the glass was ice but overall, not a bad taste. Pour-Over (Ethiopia). 9/10 Hario V60 + Virtuoso used for preparation. Didn't check water temp but timing was about what I expected. Really an excellent cup. They make all pour-over in 16oz portions and this was probably the best cup of coffee on my recent trip to North Florida. Would get this daily. Overall, the staff was really friendly, the owners care deeply about coffee and spent a lot of time answering my questions and showing me their home coffee setup and they seemed really excited about doing their own roasting in the future. This is a really pleasant coffee shop to stop at if you're in St. Augustine for the day and you need a break from the crowds downtown in the historic district. It's easy to drive to, and only about a 5-10 min drive north from downtown. If you're wondering what a "pour over" is, it's when they make your coffee individually one cup at a time, your choice of one of four types, all roasted in-house. The brewing method is basically a ceramic Melita filter, if you're familiar with that - the beans are ground for each cup, put in a paper cone filter and hot water is poured on top with a flourish, and viola! Your own individual drip coffee is prepared. It's pretty nice too, although not the best I ever had. My husband had the Colombian I had the cold brew iced coffee with coconut milk ( I'd asked for soy, but they didn't have it). The decor is very city-chic, with poured concrete floors, dark wood paneling and industrial metal stools and tables, and your typical "coffee shop" music playing over the speakers. There are also some great big cushy leather couches to sit on, and free wifi. All in all, a very relaxing place to chill out, I'd come here again for sure. The pastry case seemed a little barren, but it was 4:30 when we showed up, so maybe they sold out in the morning. read more

Went for coffee, and the barista was so rude to everyone I brought. My husband was outright rejected for trying to order a blended drink. Ok, we get it, they don't do that. Not the end of the world. Our middle daughter ordered first, and she ordered a macchiato, and the barista told her she actually wanted a latte. He didn't explain he just said, "you want a latte. Starbucks takes Italian words and they throw a dart at a board and pretend they know what it is." Which wasn't informative, just snarky. Our oldest daughter next in line planned to order a cold brew. She asked if they had any heavy cream, and he said no. She said, "ok I'll just take cold brew." And he said, "Don't take this personally, but I want to tell you something." He holds up a 12oz cup and says, "If I filled this up with heavy cream it would be 1400 calories and no one needs that, and I don't want you to feel bad, but that's why we don't carry it." I was so proud when she told him she didn't care about his opinion, and didn't plan to drink 12 oz, she just wanted a splash in her cold brew, and it's the only milk product with no carbs. (She's keto) He then said, "Well ok that's fine. That's why I told you not to take it personally." So she declined to order anything at this point. My youngest daughter was next , and she walked up and he said, "Hello sir" and she just stared, and then he said, "oh sorry ma'am...I'm really tired." She told him she wanted a hot latte. And he typed in iced and he mumbled her order to himself. And she had to correct him that she wanted it hot. He said, "you know it's hot outside. Why would you drink that hot?!" She had specified that she only wanted a half a pump of sweetener and it came out SO sweet that no one had paid attention to how sweet she wanted it. I have come here on a couple of occasions. The Bocadillos (baguette sandwiches) that they offer are very good, but you can find other options with the food truck set outside (I haven't tried it yet). Seating options vary from couches to bistro to outside to tables to bar seating. The staff was very friendly, answering my questions about their hot and cold drink options. I didn't wait too long before I could have my latte and sit for a spell. For each occasion that I have been here, I didn't feel rushed nor did I feel ignored.
