Don't get me wrong, I totally get that stress that many restaurants are under in getting quality employees, let alone enough employees to run a shift and understanding that I am very forgiving about maybe a little extra time it takes to take your order or get your food out. That wasn't the issue here. No one took an order until we asked 3 times, which even in the most forgiving situations is unacceptable. I'm trying to give you money yo and it was early. Food wise, when you read the menu it all sounds spectacular, but my friends ordered a few items and they both said that it was quite flavorless and honestly that's how I felt about my drink. Switched to beer after. Speakeasy implies a level of expertise in cocktails not sugary run of the mill. Like I said in my opening salvo, this is a beautiful location. I would love to think that this a great spot to rent out of an event or party but I will be honest, I'm not sure what kind of experience you will be getting. Attention detail doesn't seem to be their strong suit, if you want an example, check out their website and look at their hours. What's going on with Thursday?

The cooks forgot a second patty on one of my burgers. The French fries are yummy. I wish there were more tacos instead of 2. It's really a beautiful location along the river. I tried to make reservations which they said they don't take reservations, then when we got there, they wouldn't let us sit in a specific area because they said they were expecting a group of people so we asked about the reservation situation and they said they must be friends of the owner. Anyways, the food options are very good. They even have pizza. So I have no problem with the food or the location, it was more just bad service and a big mixup on one of my friends meal and so he had to watch while we all ate. He didn't get an apology from anyone which surprised me. I got the power bowl which was very good but I was confused when they brought it because it didn't look like a bowl full of ingredients, it was like a plate of ingredients more like fajita ingredients. But like I said, I did enjoy it very much. One of the people in our party got a salad with salmon on it, and she said it was very heavy with spices which she didn't think she saw listed in the menu. One of my sons got a pizza and he absolutely loved it and then two people got hamburgers which they loved also along with the great french fries. Although I only gave it three stars, I would come back here again hoping that maybe it was just one bad waitress. She rarely checked on us. In fact I don't think she checked on us at all because I had to flag her down to get carry out boxes and she didn't bring a lot of the Side ingredients we had asked for like someone asked for ranch dressing, mine was supposed to come with sour cream and salsa, and another person didn't get their side of cheese.

I want to love this place, but I can only like it. The food is too hit and miss for me to "not be…read moreable to wait" until my next visit. I'll eat here, but not as often as i would if they polished up their menu/execution. The chicken dishes, all of them, are terrible. They advertise "tender chicken cut into slices," but if you look at any of the pics on here, it's all the same - tiny, little chicken bits, dry and overcooked. The more obscure dishes are the way to go. They fail hard on the basics, but hit home runs on their more unheard of menu items. If you've never heard of something, but it sounds good - that's what you should order here. Chicken lemon rice: 3/10 Not enough chicken, lemon tastes artificial and weird, soup is bland. I've had better CLR at most any coney island. Chicken Gyro: 3/10 Chicken was dry, the orzo was dry and overcooked, tziki sauce was thick and lacked flavor. Plenty of chicken... I would have rather had less chicken, cooked better. I haven't seen their chicken kabob, but it seems like this place uses the thick part of their breast for the kabobs, and uses the scraps bits for all of their other dishes. Grape Leaves: 7/10 Good flavor, good sauce... wish the CLR soup tasted as good as the sauce from the grape leaves. Stifado: 9/10 Excellent dish. Good amount of beef, great flavor, nice stew. This is the dish that I would come back for. Bread basket: Bread: 4/10 - they serve the bread ice cold. Olive oil: 9/10 - excellent flavor, super light, nice lemon zest Service: 8.5/10 - good job. They had one guy for all 8 or so tables, but did he did a good job covering them. The busser/assistant did a good job at keeping our waters and bread full, but he tries to carry too much, and it causes a big distraction (glasses clunking, nearly falling over, re-stacking)... sometimes two trips is better than one... He also says "of course" (pet peeve) when someone says "thank you." Perhaps I'm weird, but I find that terribly dismissive, and off-putting.

Everything we ate from the salad and its dressing to the mussels and the gyro were both fresh and delicious. The mussels didn't seem to be debearded but they were fresh and delicious. The gyro doesn't naturally come with feta but they brought a large side of it! And there was one server and the host who managed to provide quality service even with 6 tables coming in at the same time.

We ordered a large cheese and pepperoni pizza, and it was absolutely amazing. The crust had that perfect balance of crisp and chew, the sauce was flavorful without overpowering, and the cheese-to-pepperoni ratio was spot on. You can tell they take pride in what comes out of their kitchen. That said, as great as the pizza was, their calzones are even better. Packed with flavor, perfectly baked, and generously filled, they're easily some of the best around. The atmosphere definitely leans toward a lively bar scene, which adds to the charm. It's casual, energetic, and fun--but don't let that fool you. The food quality is better than most chain restaurants by a long shot. Tony J's delivers the kind of experience that keeps you coming back.

I feel a similar sense of guilt about how I've treated this restaurant. I've been here since Covid, but I should've updated my review. While I didn't like how they handled the pandemic (Faye acted like there was no pandemic), the food has always been amazing. And, it still is. I'm not happy that they don't have sandwiches anymore, unless you count hamburgers. But, I understand businesses need to simplify to stay profitable. I don't think lack of sandwiches is going to be a problem if they keep making the burgers this good. The beefiness is profound, and it shows that they are using fresh, high-quality meat. The mushroom and Swiss burger has a stack of sautéed mushrooms and a generous amount of Swiss. I really appreciate the waitress asking me first if I wanted mayo on it... mayo would've taken away from the robust flavors. I actually kept going "mm-mm" after each bite. And, look at the ridiculous amount of fries in my picture. These are seriously good fries. I do want to order the fish and chips next time. My daughter got them, and I'm glad she was willing to share. The whitefish has a sweetness you only get from fresh fish. And, the breading is crispy, and not the least bit greasy. My wife said she wasn't hungry (though she did have a bite of everything we ordered), so she ordered the cream of broccoli soup. It was wonderfully flavorful. As with everything else we ordered today, we would be happy to order it again. The service was excellent, and I don't mind the no-frills setting. There's no way you'd expect an old school bar to have food this good. Coming here during happy hour also helped. A strong Moscow Mule cost $10, and my 22 ounce Guinness only cost $8. Sorry, Your Mothers. I definitely won't neglect you for so long next time.
