I feel like the quality here has gone way down. With so many Mexican restaurants in the area they really do need to step up the game. My last few visits were not good. Today I ordered carry out. I live 20 minutes away. When I got to the food it was freezing cold. I'm not talking like it has cooled down on the drive home. This used to be one of our favorite places to get food from. Started with the one in Fraser when we were younger and now in Macomb. We stayed loyal to them Even through Covid, but unfortunately this may be the end of our loyalty. Our takeout orders are AT LEAST $60 up to $100. Last night was no exception but soooooooo disappointed with how they've jacked up prices and made their food portions smaller. We LOVE their avocado crisp.they used to have a large and small size basically the same as a large or small pizza. Now they only serve a small which was okay but last night we got their avocado crisp and NO LIE it was the size of a tostada shell and cost us $14.50. It literally was boxed up in their "single" nacho container. Plus no bacon on it like they used to put on it. Definitely a TOTAL RIPOFF!!! Time to take our business elsewhere. I went to celebrate cinco de mayo here yesterday and I did not have a good time. The food is edible, but this places mexican food is not good. The burritos are small and have what appears to be shredded melted cheese; as a matter of fact this shredded melted cheese is on every dish and just seems like it was heated up in a microwave. The environment for cinco de mayo at this mexican restaurant was not good either. There was techno music playing the whole time and honestly there was nothing that would say, wow today is cinco de mayo other than this restaurant serving "mexican" food. El Charro has been my favorite since my parents started taking us to the 13 mile location. Now that I live farther north, I'm glad they opened the location at 21 mile and Card. It's not quite as good as the other location, but it's close. I try to get carry out as much as possible there. It really brings back good memories! read more

Good food, service. El Charro has outdoor seating and bar area. The inside is decorated with birds hanging from the ceiling. We both got chef's choice puffy tacos which included nachos or salad and three puffy tacos -shredded chicken, beef and regular beef. I also got the golden Margarita. Food and drinks were good and the service was fast. We were able to pay via a tablet the wait staff gave us which made things easy. Puffy tacos are worth a try. read more

Ordered carry out and was so disappointed. They had good reviews from co workers and the was excited to try. I had ordered one of my favorite Mexican dishes Chili Rellenos. This dish it's a deep fried poblano pepper stuffed with cheese. What I got was a poblano pepper with rubbery cheese on top. No breading or cheese filling. Looked nothing like the picture online. I split some other food like puffy tacos , small nacho and enchiladas with a friend and everything was so bland the cheese was rubbery and the puffy tacos tasted stale. I under stand the nacho was cheaper but it was crazy it was essentially a big tortilla with some cheese and a few jalapeños. Wasn't even close to what I was hoping for and staff was kind of rude when I called to let them know we didn't get our side of beans and rice. Won't be visiting here again. read more

In a (somewhat) young man's journey for culinary greatness from the land south of the border, every road has led him astray. Every mom-and-pop shop, every new fad, and every corporate and franchised restaurant left the promise of true greatness left unmet. Then, one day, that same man abandoned his better judgement, and he returned to a franchise long forgotten. He returned to El Charo. This is that man's story... Starting out in what was supposed to be familiar territory, the man was surprised to walk into a newly refurbished establishment (at least since the time I was there last). The bar looked new and exciting, complete with new televisions and a great color scheme (see the photo). The staff seemed reinvigorated by the new look as well, and anything that enthuses employees is always a good thing. More important than the employees happiness was the clientele. The customers were, thank goodness, no longer all families with screaming/crying children, making any childless patron quickly pack up their dishes to get away from the chaos and deafening screams. This story could go on for numerous chapters, but let me just say these few things - The chips were served right away with two types of salsa. Rachel, our server, knew the menu. Steak fajitas were excellent. Chicken enchilada was fairly good. The chicken wasn't overly cooked, which a lot of places tend to do. The burrito was good as well, stuffed with shredded beefy goodness. Black beans were spiced very nicely with chopped onions, but with a bit too much broth with them. The pico de giyo was delicious, but the portion was a bit small. Fried ice cream, which I ordered half honey and half strawberry is so good. It tastes like Frosted Flakes covering vanilla ice cream. What does all that mean? It means I'll DEF be back to support this local biz, but also that this man's journey for Mexican greatness continues; however, until I find the "perfect" spot this location certainly has the silver medal IMO. read more

It was very chaotic on cinco de mayo but that was expected, I do like how they had music and a good waiting system. They sent us a text when our table was ready so we could wait in the car. I just love the puffy tacos here. I use to go to the Rochester road location but it closed down. This was my first time at this location. The food and service were both amazing. It is much smaller than the Rochester location. It's wheelchair accessible; except they do have the bathroom hall lived with child seats and chairs which might make it difficult to get by if you have a larger wheelchair but they can be moved if you ask. They have a full bar. It is in a strip mall so you have to find parking. I will definitely come back again. read more

Went there last Saturday after 4 pm. Place was busy despite it being too early for dinner. They give you chips and salsa to start. After studying the menu,I ended up ordering the el charro original combinaltion with puffy taco, tostada, burrito and enchilada. Which had a side of spanish rice and beans. So i can have a taste of everything. And of course a mango margarita. My daughter ordered the chicken fajitas. Food was very good. I would like my review to mirror the joy I've experienced at this specific location over the past year, year and a half now. I kept telling myself, its the pandemic, they'll pull themselves together, we'll just wait it out. Bad experience after bad experience and just like that a year & half has flown by with out a decent dining experience to speak off. Between the terrible service, equally unorganized management to still running out of items while sporting a one sheet limited menu of which a quarter of it is just the same items in a lunch format with specific times & prices, you still find a way to run out of fish for your fish tacos. Hey, it is a pandemic, it is rough for the food industry right now, but guess what, I've been more then patient & just can't do it anymore. I hate to do this over text, but I think I should see other Mexican restaurants. The past 15 years have been great, grabbing a quick bite & using your parking lot for the fireworks in Fraser, helping some struggling parents with kids eat free Sundays, and last but not least, the memory of eating grilled fish tacos in a unique & delicious puffy taco. I ordered Christmas eve dinner for six people. My order was ready at the time promised - quick & easy pickup. However, I was missing a meal for one person. When I called they said Sorry and gave me the options of pick it up or they'd credit me. Not happy with those choices. We wanted to eat together and someone did not have their meal! Driving 20 minutes there and back, everyone else's food would be cold. In the end, I spoke with a manager and someone drove the missing item to us. So my hubby ended up eating his dinner an hour after everyone else was finished... With that said, mistakes do happen I just wasn't happy with the initial response. The nachos were terrible, with onion chunks the size of my thumb. My daughter ordered the enchilada and barely ate a quarter of it, leaving the rest. The prices were high, and overall, it's not worth it. Save your money; you could make something 10 times better by buying ground beef/turkey and using Old El Paso taco seasoning. Came here for lunch and had one of the lunch specials, which is an Enchilada and Mini Botana. I'll put it this way.... there were no leftovers on my plate. Yep, very good food and just the right size as far as portions. It's enough to fill you up but not to the point where you feel overly stuffed. The Botana had lots of toppings which made each bite delicious. The Enchilada wasn't too big, nor too small and was very good as well. The complimentary chips were very fresh tasting as were the two sauces that come with them. The restaurant is very nicely decorated although a touch on the dark side, but still neat and clean which makes for a relaxing meal and our server was very attentive and friendly and made the visit that much more enjoyable. Of course I'll be back. Good prices, good service, good food equals return visits! read more
