40% of the cabinets don't work
    Kyle S.

Once a classic staple, Dorky's has become a stain on Tacoma. By many accounts, this is due to the beliefs and behavior of the owner, which has warped the arcade into a shadow of its former self. A few years ago you'd walk in and feel the thrill of potential - flashing lights and rows upon rows of a wide variety of games to play. At night, loud music would pump over a maze of cabinets awash in neon and black light. Stepping in now, it looks like the arcade was an afterthought. So what happened? My understanding is that after the owner's racism (and horrifyingly callous behavior after an employee got shot on the job) came to light, the cabinet manufacturers withdrew their games from Dorky's, leaving the space empty and sad. The owner had to pull out his old cabinets from storage and close down the second level by the bar. It used to have state-of-the-art games like the Star Wars Battlepod, but now I think there was only one title I recognized, the rest being generic filler games - very much D-tier stuff. About 40% of the cabinets were nonfunctional, including an entire corner dedicated to broken games like a graveyard ("a resurrection corner!" the owner corrected me). The food has always been arcade food - nauseatingly greasy pizza and frozen snacks popped in a microwave, and more often than not my experience with the staff has been curt and unpleasant. The owner, for his part, appears to be on a journey of self-improvement, so we'll see if he's able to rebuild the goodwill he burned over the last few years. Historically, he'd deal with conflict by denying and deflecting responsibility in long, childish facebook rants. I hope that he has truly changed, or that someone else steps in to guide this Tacoma staple back into better days.

    lol like really???

This place sucks so bad. Mirroring what a lot of other reviews have already said, we were charged $20 (for 2 people) to enter for hardly any of the games to work. Wish I would have looked at the reviews but I typically never need to do that for an arcade bar....... stayed as long as I could stand it to feel like I got at least some portion of my moneys worth and got out of there. Stay away from this place LOL.

Fun for old school arcade! Enjoyed a couple of beverages and then settled into some 2 player Ms. Pac Man.

This place was a lot of fun. Kids are allowed as well, which makes it a family friendly spot. We came here and enjoyed some cheap, good fair type food by ordering a corn dog and tots. There are several arcade games to choose from and a wide variety of beers too. I'd come back here and recommend checking it out.

Does dorkys have music/ sound system? A you request the type of music?

Do they still have DDR machines?

No. There isn't anything here that I want to play anymore. It's all junk. 😞

Are minors ok to play during the day? Thanks

I heard that minors are not allowed in after 9pm (I wanted to take my girlfriend here after prom). Is this true?

    This is true. Sorry!

If you drop your phone it's gaurenteed cracked. They have a brick floor. You're doomed.... oh and there's a possibility you'll pick it up with gum stuck to the screen?

Don't forget the beer sticky floor so you may not be able to pick it up. But the gum will help your cracked screen until you get it fixed at a screen doctor. ;)

We do love pinball, but we might have come along this place randomly. It's been busy the few times we have been, which tend to be weekend afternoons. Lot of machines available, seems like frequent tournaments are going on. According to pinball map they have 24 machines, which is pretty large compared to some places. Not so busy you can't play though, prices are comparable. It doesn't seem too claustrophobic like some places, lots of space to move around. Full bar and friendly service. Places to sit. Definitely check this out if you like pinball. I don't think they have food, but I could be wrong.

His friend's family reserved a private room for the birthday event, and I was thankfully able to locate it with the assistance of an employee. The service seemed decent. I really liked the cleanliness and décor of the place. Has a calming ambience with all the ocean vibes. I was not expecting duckpin bowling (I didn't do any research before coming here) but it seems ideal for a casual time. No one was really taking the bowling seriously since it was more of an event to get together, eat, and chat, so the duckpin bowling is good for all the kids to just bowl for fun and all the adults to chatter in between. I had some pizza, it was good enough (not cheesy enough for my preference but the taste was adequate). A fun time overall. I'm not inquiring about the price though lol looks a bit too fancy for me.

This is the fakest bowling alley to ever exist, everything is wrong. Came here to practice my bowling technique and it is impossible to do. Here is a list of things I wish I knew before coming: 1. Pins on strings. Not my preference- still manageable but makes for a different experience. 2. When booking online, it says shoe rentals included. There were no shoes. Make sure you wear shoes you feel comfy bowling in. It will affect your game. 3. Lanes are not oiled or properly marked!!!! This is the most important part of bowling otherwise you are just shooting blind. The balls were just going every which way regardless of how good your throw was!! 4. The space before the lane was wayyy shorter than a standard bowling alley making it impossible to do a proper approach!!! It took a whole game to adjust. I'm sure this place is fine to come for the arcade, laser tag, or other activities. But if you are expecting real bowling, you won't find it here!!!

Kids 1+ love it (depending on how much they like climbing) - with an area for "4 and under" and some ball play areas and a mini slide for littles. Odyssey 1 is kept cleaner than most places so that's a bonus and if you pay attention you can figure out where your child is. Occasionally you might have to crawl in for a lost toddler and the structures are sturdy (try not to climb in because it's not adult sized!). It can still be a little dirty but again, better than some places. Older kids might tire of the play area and go on over to the arcade side or do laser tag. Food includes pizza and drinks, and loads of people do birthday parties. I've seen adults sit and work along the side or in the seating area with tables. The larger structure has some unique features such as a roller slide and some obstacle course like features. I remember this place helping my toddler reach a couple of milestones with his climbing ability. Now he is closer to three and I wish so bad I could come back here, but I live up in Everett now so it's a bit of a drive. The arcade is decent. My son was a little young for it but he enjoyed a lot of it. I also won him a sponge bob monster truck with one of the machines. Let's face it's an entire convention center room dedicated purely to vintage arcade & Pinball machines. The 3 day festivities are in June at the Tacoma Convention Center. I defiantly anticipate kicking my summer off by launching into my inner geek fest for hours on end. $ 20 to $25 per day is the admission price and the game play free unlimited playing. As a child I played with a pocket full of quarters at the arcade and now it's free once you pony up the admission fee. My favorite games I played this year was the new KISS Pinball machine. Amazing graphics and lightening fast ball action with amazing play. You'll be blown away by the newest features built into this machine. Heck you can even pick which KISS song you want it to play during the game. Also the multi ball play is insane. Ball's are flying everywhere and if you lose one another shots back onto the playing field. Very hyper and sometimes keeps you to focused on the play. Aerosmith 2017 machine was ok, so after a few plays I walked away instead of "Walk This Way". The Metallica Pinball machine was a nice playing machine however AC/DC's 2017 Pinball machine is awesome and should win the 2017 hyper play award. The fact the Angus bares his buns at the end of the game to give you a "MATCH PLAY" number is hilarious. New Batman Pinball machine came out. Kinda ironic since Adam West who played Batman died a few days ago. Vintage games like PAC MAN, Donkey Kong , Tempest & Astroids are line up in the gaming section of the floor. All the games you'll remember from childhood are there to play and as many times as you want. Most fun you'll have in an afternoon in Tacoma , so folks put it on your calendar for next year.

Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing across the board due to a complete lack of oversight and management. During bowling, there was no enforcement of basic lane courtesy or policies. Other bowlers repeatedly ignored turn-taking etiquette, which significantly slowed our play. Because we were practicing proper courtesy while others were not, we lost time -- and since bowling is charged by the hour rather than by the game, we effectively paid for time we couldn't use. No staff intervention, guidance, or monitoring was present. The mini-golf experience was similar. There was no supervision at all. People were going out of turn, grown adults were touching and interfering with the decor, and multiple individuals were in the water features, which felt unsafe and completely unmanaged. It was chaotic and disrespectful, with no staff stepping in to maintain order. To make matters worse, within hours of eating at the on-site restaurant, my 15-year-old son became violently ill with repeated vomiting and diarrhea for over 20 hours straight, resulting in a nearly five-hour visit to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital ER the next night for dehydration and uncontrolled vomiting. I also became ill, though less severely. The common food item we shared was ground beef (patty melt and nachos). Both of us ate the nachos and we were the only two that got sick. When I called the next day to notify the restaurant, the response was immediately defensive, with no concern expressed and no offer of a refund -- I had to ask. I later learned the manager I spoke with oversees both the restaurant and entertainment operations, which unfortunately aligned with our overall experience. I understand that businesses get busy. What's unacceptable is the absence of basic supervision, customer care, and accountability across every part of the visit. This was not a one-off issue -- it reflected systemic poor management.

They've clearly updated the outside of it but the inside is giving traditional 90s bowling alley vibes (which I love). I'd love to come back here with my kids during the rainy months, because they'd be all about it. We got there right before a crazy rush thankfully and were set up with a lane in no time. Prices are kind of all over the place dependent on what day and time you go, but split between the three couples, it was super affordable for a date night activity. They also have a restaurant with traditional American offerings. We tried the nachos (delicious) and also the chicken bacon ranch quesadilla (also really good!) Nothing out of this world but still good and decently priced. Another bonus is that they have a full bar. It's on the smaller side, but a bar all the same... And really cheap! A pitcher of beer was like $13 which really is not bad for these days. This was a super fun spot for a night out with friends and we're excited to bring the kids back here once the fall weather hits!

My husband used the you-pour-it wall for cider and they had awesome local selections. We ended up eating at the restaurant too and their menu is pretty extensive! We got a couple different types of pizzas and for an arcade, it was pretty dang solid. We got a chicken pesto pizza as well as a cheese pizza. The kids loved their cheese pizza (hard to mess that up) and we scarfed down the chicken pesto! Also, did I mention your food is also delivered by robots?! Such a fun touch for the kids!
