Me and my boyfriend have a plan to try every restaurant in downtown because we live a walk away. We decided to try out Doppio Zero after passing by it so many times on our walks. It was a Friday night so it was relatively crowded as expected. Although it's cold, they have heaters outside so we opted to sit outside to be seated quicker. We decided to order the calamari as an appetizer, then the doppio pizza. Calamari came quick, and it was up to par with calamari you would get at other restaurants. I had the best pizza of my entire life here- was recently introduced to this spot and have already been twice. Ordered the same thing both times because both dishes were just that good. I had the doppio zero pizza and marechiaro, which was a squid ink and seafood tomato pasta. Everything about the pizza was so perfect- amazing proportions of arugula, prosciutto, cheese, and dough. Pasta had the ideal chewy texture and such a generous portion of seafood (clams and scallops). There is a yummy complimentary bread bowl, but only upon request so don't forget to ask your waiter for this. My new favorite Italian restaurant, such an elegant interior and definitely will be back to try more menu items. read more

Squid ink pasta: Pasta is decent and the dish comes with a generous amount of scallops and clams. The sauce tastes very tomatoey and has a very very mild amount of spice. However, the sauce was insanely salty and I had to drink a lot of water in order to finish the dish Bufalina pizza: Pretty cool that they have bufala instead of just the regular mozzarella. Pizza dough is nice and chewy and also quite thin. It's cooked in a wood-burning oven and you can really taste that in the pizza. But again, the sauce is just way too salty. Went over on a Friday night at around 8:45 pm, it was full inside so we were seated outside. It was a little hard to get the staff's attention but we were able to order and the dishes came out pretty quickly. Doppio Zero Pizza - The crust had a light char on the bottom but it was very thin and wasn't able to hold and support the toppings on top. It was pretty hard to cut through the pizza but the flavor was pretty good and had a lot of classic flavors. Marechiaro - A homemade squid ink tagliolini with scallops and clams. The dish was lukewarm and had really good flavoring, a little spicy and warming. The noodles were a little tough but the scallops and clams were cooked through well. Came here with a friend on a Wednesday after work for dinner. When we arrived, it was actually super packed but we happened to get seated pretty quickly at the first available table outside. The interior looked super cute, with a variety of seating options. Looked like it could be good for both larger groups or just a friend or two. It was already spring so the weather was quite nice when we were seated outside. We started with two glasses of CaliPaso wine, the calamari and shrimp plate, and burrata. The batter was light and crispy on the calamari and shrimp - exactly what you want when you order this dish. I'm always a sucker for burrata and the toasted hazelnuts and honey added a sweet and nutty crunch. It was quite nice and different from the usual roasted tomatoes that burrata comes with. For mains, we split the Fungo pizza and the Jalapeño pizza. Both were great and the dough was thin and slightly chewy, which made for a great texture and really great flavors. There was this house chili oil they had that was pretty good on both pizzas, but I also added some parmesan and red pepper flakes. Everything was delicious! Come early if you want to get a seat. We got one outside after 30 minutes waiting. When it's busy, they're overwhelmed so be patient? Once we sat service was quick. We got the pera salad, coquette both were great to start the meal. We then got jalapenos pizza, doppio zero pizza and la carna pizza. Jalapeño pizza 3/5 barely any jalapeño as you see on the picture. Did not cut the pizza for us either. Doppio zero pizza 3/5 it was a salad on the pizza, still good. But the taste is overwhelming. Pizza was not pre cut. La carne 5/5 got a kick to it, could use a little more meat but our favorite. Pizza was kinda pre cut. All looked like personal pizza sizes but after bread and apps, it does fill you up slowly. Doppio Zero is my new favorite local chain. I had a chance to come to their original location in Mt View for dinner yesterday. I recently saw an article about Naples being the best food town in the world and saw the Stanley Tucci documentary about Naples. Well...Doppio Zero which claims that Southern Italy inspires them helps make the case further. Neapolitan pizza with its simple ingredients and soft tasty crust is amazing. Went for dinner on Wednesday evening without a reservation so we ended up sitting outside - highly recommend making the reservation ahead of time. (Although inside of the restaurant was pretty loud so am glad we sat outside) Pretty cocktail. Pizza is HUGE and loved the chewy dough. Also tried brussel sprouts, Octopus, croquettes and Pasta Special of the day. The host and our server was friendly; however the servers inside of the restaurant weren't and not courteous when one of them walked by me inside of the restaurant when I went to use the restroom. My family had a great dinner at Doppio Zero and we shared a margherita pizza. The crust was crispy and the cheese tasted really fresh.

My friend and I split a Salsiccia pizza and Gnocchi to share. Everything came out pretty quickly. The pizza wasn't as hot as I would have liked it to have been - I feel like it got cold pretty quickly after we got it. The toppings also weren't dispersed very evenly or well. As for the pasta, I don't usually like gnocchi but I enjoyed this dish. The flavor was wonderful and I ended up dipping my pizza crust in the sauce. Located in Downtown Mountain View, parking is plentiful. The restaurant was pretty crowded. However, my friend and I were able to get seated quickly. There's quite a bit of seating inside and several tables outside with heaters which the employees do ensure are on. Salsiccia (5/5): came in steaming hot. The dough was fluffy and there were so many toppings. The cheese was absolutely perfect and so delicious. Everything from the dough to the sauce and toppings came together so perfectly. My friend and I got a reservation the day of on a busy Friday night for 6:15 PM. They only had outdoor seating remaining. Food: We fell in love with the Fungo pizza, Marechiaro, and truffle fries. We also ordered the broccolini, which was drenched in oil. We didn't finish that small plate. The truffle fries came with a side of ketchup, and when we asked for some mayonnaise, we were informed Doppio Zero has no other sauces. This is an Italian restaurant on Castro Street of Mountain View, specializing in Neapolitan pizzas and hand crafted pasta. The two of us had a light lunch and tried their Little Gem salad with Chicken and the Marechiaro pasta. The salad was really good and unique. It came with marinated anchovies, watermelon radish, Parmesan cheese, croutons, and anchovies avocado dressing. The grilled chicken was tender. The pasta was a house made squid ink tagliolini with plenty of scallops, clams, and roasted garlic in a light spicy tomato sauce. It was delicious! We also had their Cannoli for desert. It was quite delightful with the right amount of sweetness. The restaurant was lively with an eye-catching brick pizza oven in the back. I feel a bit conflicted in writing this review, as I would in the past give this a 5 star rating. Now a 3.5 feels more appropriate, but Yelp doesn't let me do that : / I know people love their pizzas but I personally have found them over the years to be a little heavy / dough-y for me. They also do not taste very good if you order to-go or delivery. I do love their pastas though, including the wild boar fettucine and the marechiaro, and sometimes their specials can be awesome (lobster pasta) They can get pretty crowded; when their traffic is high, I found the long waits to be not worthy it as wherever you are seated (inside) will be loud and difficult to make conversation due to it. read more

NEAPOLITAN STAMPED I traveled to Italy in October 2003. During my trip I visited Naples where I ate pizza at L'Antica Pizzeria de Michele, which is considered the Mecca of pizza. The pizzeria only sells two types of pizzas - margherita and marinara. I ordered the margherita. Eating pizza there was a unique experience as the pizza wasn't sliced and at the dining table you were given a knife and fork. What stood out from the pizza I ate at Naples was the end crust, which I normally don't eat. That end crust of the margherita pizza was slightly charred yet airy. Also the mozzarella, which in Naples is from buffalo milk, was wet. When I eat pizza back in the States it's not the same as in Naples. There are some pizzerias in California I ate that claim to have Neapolitan pizzas. I'm not Neapolitan but those pizzerias despite their claims don't serve Neapolitan pizzas. I didn't think there were Neapolitan pizzas served in California. Then I visited Doppio Zero. About a month ago I came here for dinner with my family. My sister is the one who first visited this place. We ordered about four to five pizzas. One of the pizzas I ordered for myself is the Bufalina because the mozzarella is made from buffalo milk. Once I took a bite of the Bufalina the wet mozzarella reminded me of Naples. The most important aspect of the pizza isn't the toppings, but the crust. When I took a bite of slices from the fig and prosciutto, sausage, and margherita pizzas the slightly charred yet airy crust reminded me when I ate pizza at Naples. I can say the pizzas at Doppio Zero are Neapolitan pizzas. After going with my family that night I've been to Dippio Zero three times on my own. About two days after going with family I came here for lunch. I ordered the La Carne as I didn't fancy the Salisiccia I ate two nights before. La Carne had two different sausages: Spanish chorizo and Italian sausage. La Carne was a better tasting pizza than the Salisiccia. Yet both pizzas still had that airy crust, which makes the pizza light in texture. For lunch I also decided to get the cannoli. A week after that I came here on a weekday for dinner. As I had the figs and prosciutto that one Saturday evening I wanted to try another white pizza. I was deciding between the Doppio Zero or Mortadella. My server during that dinner recommended the Doppio Zero, which is the name of the pizzeria. What I noticed the white pizzas from Doppio Zero have a flat bread taste as there is no tomato sauce. Also I ordered the fried calamari and shrimp as an appetizer. Sometimes the portions of fried calamari can be skimpy but having shrimp makes this fried appetizer filling. There was one red pizza I wanted to try from Doppio Zero. I came here yesterday for lunch to order the Jalapeno. I not into spicy foods generally but I wanted to try this pizza out as this included jalapeno, Italian salami, and Italian sausage. I noticed at other pizzerias some customers would sprinkle chili flakes as they want some bite to the pizza. The Jalapeno isn't a spicy pizza but there are some couple of bites of the seeds that can make the pizza very hot. Overall it's not unbearably spicy pizza. After eating here four times my favorite pizza at Doppio Zero is the Bufalina, which reminds of the margherita I ordered from L'Antica Pizzeria de Michele at Naples, Italy. There are those pizzerias that claim to have Neapolitan pizzas. Whether it's the crust or cooking oven those pizzerias come short on their version of Neapolitan pizza. I can say as someone who visited Naples, Italy the pizzas at Doppio Zero are closest thing to having Neapolitan pizzas. read more

We ordered Margherita Pizza. It was very soggy, lacked sauce and only had like 1 basil leaf on the whole pie. It was more of Cheese pizza. Ravioli was decent. Ambiance was the worst. It was 2 of us and we could hardly hear each other despite being seated next to each other by the bar. It was so cramped up, felt like fish market. We requested the host to give us one of the less noisy outdoor tables few times. He just put us on waitlist, even though there were few tables available. While he was putting us on waitlist, I saw an option pop up for him to select wait time and he shamelessly selected hour long wait for us. Those tables were unoccupied from our arrival to until we left. It's like paying premium for mediocre food and very bad ambiance. It was very big as well. I wish I could have ordered a pizza but I was not feeling great, so I ordered one of their pastas with fish, as did my father, and the dish tasted alright. But the waiter just responded to me in Italians, presumably "those seats are reserved." But there was clearly only the white family seated there and the rest were empty. * To note another party the hostess seated next to us were Indian. * The server who brought the pizza out just dropped it on the table Atmosphere: 0/5 * as written above, terrible experience. Avoid this place if you aren't Italian or white. We had high hopes for this place as they got Michelin Star before. Very subpar pizza. Terrible staff attitudes.
