Donuts Delite - Culver Road - 3/4/2010. Bellyman has been told numerous times he's just got to try Donuts Delite. Bellyman likes donuts and has grown weary of the large chain's pre-made donuts, so it's a suggestion he wanted to follow up on. Since Bellyman passes by the place everyday, today seemed like a good day to stop. Selection is limited, as might be expected in a small shop like this. the larger chains like to try and impress with a wide variety, but most people like what they like and anything new is a novelty not to be repeated. Bellyman is no different, so Bellyman ordered a Cinnamon Twist, his favorite, and a bottle of milk. Bellyman was taken aback when he was told the total: $3.75!! This had better be the best damn donut Bellyman has ever had! It was no small task holding off eating that yummy-looking donut until Bellyman got to his desk so he could take a self-portrait for you. The things Bellyman does for his fans! The first bite wasn't all that impressive, and successive bites failed to build on that. It was an okay donut, but Bellyman has had much better. Honestly, Bellyman found it to be a little bland. The donut itself was extremely light and unfulfilling and the cinnamon/sugar mix barely added anything. The milk was good, though... Verdict: Bellyman disapproves. If they weren't so expensive, they would be a fair alternative to the chains. But, the added cost just isn't buying you anything. If given the choice, Bellyman would direct you to your local Wegmans bakery for much better donuts at a much better price. Since it's located in a Salvatore's Pizza, they offer breakfast subs and pizzas, so maybe Bellyman will give them another shot... read more

These are some pretty damn good donuts, particularly if you get them fresh first thing in the morning! It's a small place but they do have quite a variety (if you go at the right time). The Bavarian Cream is a good bet, as is a simple glazed variety. If you are going to eat donuts, why waste it on DD, when you can have something so much better? read more

Sorry but this place is just not my cup of tea. Very limited selection of overly large, overly sweet, overly expensive and not very tasty donuts. Came here with my sisters and my donut loving nephew and all four of us came away with the same opinion. We walked in expecting great things and were surprised upon seeing a very small selection case sitting at the back entrance of a Salvatores pizza shop. Very disappointing.... I have come to this store for breakfast many times. Today I was the only customer in the dining room except for a table of gentleman drinking their coffee. I order my breakfast and after waiting 20 minutes I decided to leave as I have never waited this long . I heard a group of employees yacking it up in the back. As I got up my food arrived so I sat down and was going to eat it. When the waitress went to get the hot sauce I noticed right away that the cheese wasn't melted. So I touched my hash browns and they were stone cold . I also receive two different pieces of toast when I asked for white. I mention this to my waitress and she went and got her manager. He came out and asked what do I want and I said I don't have time to eat this . So he took my plate away . I paid for my one cup of coffee no refill was offered for $3.50 for one cup. Wow !!! The sad part about it not one person apologize for waiting and that they dropped the ball. I am sure they all continue to gossip as soon as I left and that my money isn't good enough . The lack of customer service!!!!!!!! It's one specific girl she had blonde platinum hair she is very rude she Doesn't care for customers she treats people as if they were a bother to her! She shouldn't work for customer service if she hates her job! I came in one day with my mother she rushed us she made us feel like we weren't welcomed! We asked for our slices to be warmed up and she didn't even do that ! It was a major disappointment because we live near this location and use to come here frequently but will no longer spend our money somewhere where we feel like we are inconveniencing someone else for being a customer. Words can't even describe the feelings I have for this place. I live in Buffalo, so when I'm in town and can stop in I am grinning from ear to ear when I see the donut case. No, it's not because I have a donut problem, it's because it just brings back so many great childhood memories that I thought were gone forever 6 years ago. Donuts Delite has been a Rochester institution for quite some time. They're still in their old location at the corner of Culver and Empire along the Irondequoit/Rochester border. The store was, I believe, closed for a while, though it's now affiliated with Salvatore's pizzeria - which makes for a very interesting pizza/donut combination! The donuts are delish; almost as good as the nearby Ridge Donuts, though not as big. A nice little place to sit down, have some pizza, and cap it off with a donut. read more

Probably my favorite breakfast and doughnut place in Rochester. A staple in our city for many years that never fails to come through. Their cro-nut with the jelly and cream cheese cross is a must try. One is big enough to split and so is their breakfast pizza. Each meal is a huge amount of food for one person and for the price. The wait staff is overly friendly and always offers you a cup of coffee to go. It's how breakfast should be. If you are in the mood for lunch you can't go wrong with anything on the menu but my hubby's favorite sampler is the Mac snack plate. read more

We wandered in as new-comers to the area, and were amazed at what their pizza special combo included. Falling in love with a place because they give you 1/4th a pizza in one slice, 1 donut of your choosing ( boston creme for me), and a 16oz soda for ~$6 has never been so easy. My prurient side has always been a fan of white creme filled chocolate frosted bismark donuts and at Donuts Delight that long john is the absolute best version of it I've found anywhere hands down and at a buck-fifty it's worth every penny! Yesterday was my first trip to Donuts Delight. It won't be my last. We walked in and were greeted with the delicious smell of ... pizza? Yes, it seems that Donuts Delight is now a Salvatores. Which is a little weird -- who gets pizza and donuts? Oh, America ... Anyhow, we immediately started eyeing the meager-yet-delicious-looking display of donuts under the counter (on the shelves behind the counter you'll now find slices), but before we could figure out what looked good, the cashier asked "To go or for here?" then directed us to sit anywhere we liked and a waitress would be right along. We opened the menu and found full descriptions of everything from Salvators, with a little section for donuts like this: Donut -- $1.5 Specialty donut -- $2 That was it. There were no lists or descriptions, just prices. So we turned to yelp and found out that the apple fritter and the cannoli donut were popular. First things first: the coffee was delicious. My husband got a dunker and a cannoli donut; I got an apple fritter. The dunker: the dunker was good (especially, as you might imagine, when dunked in coffee). It was a long twisted donut with the consistency of a donut hole -- very heavy. The apple fritter: the apple fritter was about the size of my head, and very good as apple fritters go (probably the best I've ever had). But there was something missing ... I mean, I've heard for years how amazing the donuts are here, and while this was a good version of the apple fritter, it didn't transcend the apple fritter genre. I had really expected something more like ... The cannoli donut: the cannoli donut looks like a regular powdered jelly donut. But take one bite and you're in heaven. It's filled with cannoli filling and mini chocolate chips (not too many; only about one or two per bite), and this cannoli filling stacks up there with the fabled Mike's and Modern pastries in Boston. Seriously, this is what I expected -- suddenly, I knew what all the hype was about. Suddenly, I could imagine craving Donuts Delight on a near-daily basis. Suddenly, after eating less than half the donut, I had the itis and didn't feel so good anymore -- but it was utterly worth it. Cute old-fashioned diner vibe. Not in the best part of town but head out there on a Saturday afternoon after visiting the public market (only a five-minute drive away). Based on recommendations from other Yelpers I went with the cannoli donut. Super tasty and very sweet, but not for the bashful eater. I took my first bite, looked in the mirror, and laughed at myself. My lips and surrounding area were completely covered in powered sugar for this bite and each of the following. But if you go on your own like I did, you can wear that powdered sugar without shame. Seems like a good spot for high school and college students who want cheap eats (my donut was $2.19), and with a sign on the door limiting only three students to enter at a time, I'm guessing they get a lot of them. read more

Good donuts. Not in the same league as Ridge Donut Cafe. In fact, I feel like there is no comparison. But these fried babies are definitely better than Dunkin or Timmy's and the famous cannoli donut has a commendable ricotta choco chip filling. We got a plain glazed, cannoli and Bavarian creme and did something vaguely amusing I've only done before on road trips. We drove down to the bay by all the boats, parked our car by the tranquil water and tore into the donuts. A few bites in, we realized that the power and filling were getting EVERYWHERE, so we exited the car (left the radio on), and ate the donuts standing up outside, much to the confusion and amusement of a few boat owners. We scarfed them down, declared Ridge superior, licked our fingers, got in the car and drove away. And...that's how it's done! read more

Dunkin' but bigger. The donuts were good, but I wouldn't seek them out...even though I did, by word of mouth. To me they tasted a lot like Dunkin'. The outside and indoor booths gets major style points - they should never change the facade, and the location at a fork in the road is priceless. Unfortunately, you can't enter the parking lot from either side of the fork - only from Culver, for those going for the first time. The style points end at the front counter, which is small and cramped. It is hard to tell if you are at a donut shop or a branch of Salvatore's. For the sake of branding a sweet Rochester destination, I would have toned down the pizza. read more

The pumpkin coffee was spicy and yummy and my sandwich was hot and delicious. The waitress was the sweetest girl ever and very accommodating. She even offered me a coffee to take with me home. After a miserable failed attempt at breakfast at Ridge Donut Cafe (refer to my last review for details), we came here. We were here a couple weeks back and had a fantastic breakfast with good donuts. So we felt we had nothing to lose. Didn't disappoint. Last time I had the breakfast pizza, this time a breakfast Thing (what they call their sammiches) with bacon on a croissant. I thought it was good. The pancakes are great, not greasy or dense/flat. The home fries are tasty and crisp. Coffee isn't amazeballs, but it's head and shoulders above the brown water Ridge Donut punishes it's customers with--i mean serves to it's customers. The donuts are decent but Ridge definitely wins on that front. However, if I want a decent breakfast followed by donuts, you'll see me at Delite. read more

Get the Apple fritters! with that out of the way; I can move on to the rest of the review this is really a Salvatore's pizza location that used to be an old donut shop. When they built the pizza place they contacted the heirs of the original donut place, and restored it with a 50s feel. Although it looks to clean and shiny to feel really from the 50s, it is still a nice little place. The donuts? They are great, delicious, well made. The service? Friendly and helpful every time I've been there. The pizza? No idea, I never order pizza there! Go for the donuts, get some apple fritters! read more

When I was looking up places to hit up for interesting food in Rochester in preparation for a long road trip that was passing through Rochester, I remember seeing the website for Donuts Delite, and thinking that this was an automatic place I had to try. The location was pretty easy to navigate to, as it's pretty much right off of the Empire Blvd. exit off of Rt. 590. The parking lot has limited spaces, but the location is kind of smack dab in the middle of this cozy residential area, so I imagine street parking is also not out of the realm. Donuts Delite shares its space with a pizzeria that I never tried, but they had a massively large menu that would probably get a Gordon Ramsay to scream bloody murder at the variety. But I came for donuts, so enough talk about the pizza. It was an early Saturday morning in which I came, and the parking lot was already kind of full of people who had the same idea I did. Being in its cozy residential area, the place was also filled with people who make Donuts Delite part of their morning strolls or jogs, thus defeating the purpose of exercising in the first place but to each their own, but it's clear that they're pretty well liked. I got several donuts, thinking they would be small ones like your average Dunkin or Krispy Kreme, but upon finding out that they were these massive donuts, I stopped with three. I didn't even finish them either, they were so large. It's hard for me to describe it, but they're a like, true bakery donuts. As in meaty, hearty, filling donuts, and a far cry from the 3-bite microdonuts from the DD/KK kind of places. Eating one brings me back to memories of when I was forced to go to church with the family, and that the only solace were the donuts after mass. Each donut is several bites, lots of chewing, and meant to be savored with a hot coffee or chocolate. Definite quality. The downside is that they're so filling, that two donuts in, my third one practically laughed at me, at my now-inability to finish it. Not wanting to ruin the eating escapades Rochester had yet to offer me, I had no choice but to pitch it after just two bites. Anyway, Donuts Delite is a charming place, and the kind of gem that tourists like me love to find. If my travels ever bring me back to Rochester, I'm coming back, be it for more donuts, or whatever the Salvatore's Pizza has to offer. read more

I no longer live in Rochester, so I have to suffer homesickness as I watch my childhood friends post endless Facebook photos of Donuts Delite. But last weekend when hubs and I went East for a visit, DD was on my "must" list. After all, I spend half my life in search of buttercreme frosting, so a donut WITH frosting? Come on! We picked the Sesame Street characters and yes, I know they're designed for kids, but this was the legend I was hearing so much about. We each took a bite and... My husband promptly started to make a face. He swallowed one bite and declared, "When you want diabetes and just don't want to waste too much time." As for me, I ate the outside, but really disliked the chocolate frosting and whipped cream parts. As for the donut itself, it was all right, if a little tasteless. I suppose with mountains of sweet on top, you don't need too much underneath. The place is very cute and it was a fun experience, but I don't think I'll ever need another Donuts Delite. read more
