Donuts are great. Home town service. Not much room if you want to sit and eat. Great location.

They entertained my children, their prices weren't bad, and just a nice place in general.

A must stop if you are traveling between Houston and Austin on Hwy 71. I'm usually a Bucees guy,…read morebut this place specializes in something that the beaver doesn't. Kolaches! Arguably one of the greatest foods ever invented. Atleast in my world. How can you go wrong with bread filled with sweet or savory fillings? Hruska's is about halfway between Houston and Austin and a perfect rest stop to fill up on gas, use the clean facilities, grab a snack or indulge in their amazing baked goods. They are steeped in history and have been around for decades passing along the family recipes. It's obviously improved structurally over the years from a country store and looks like a modern gas station now. It's always pretty busy every time I have stopped in, but they are a well oiled machine and keep the masses moving with excellent customer service. They have all your gas station essentials like snacks and beverages. What sets them apart is their bakery. Here, they label their kolaches as the traditional fruit filled variety. I like them, but they are never my first choice. I love the ones with meat inside. Here, they label these as pigs in a blanket. They have a large variety of both. I usually go for a regular sausage and cheese, but over here, they sell a delicious pan sausage kind. On top of all their sweet and savory baked goods, they also sell burgers on the grill. Their burgers have made it to the Texas Monthly Top 50 burger spots. I have yet to try it. Overall, this is an always stop place for me. I highly recommend stopping here to stretch your legs and enjoy a delicious pastry while you're at it. I will definitely be back.

I think there must be some type of standard Panaderia handbook because they all seem to have huge wooden cabinets. Of course, they are filled with baked goods which are of the typical not-so-sweet and too dry variety. Why must these items always be so dry? We got a bag full of stuff (see photo) for a little over $5. The price is definitely right at this Panaderia. The lady who was working there was quite busy on her phone and I think she was happy to see that we knew how these places worked. 1. Pick up the large metal tray and tongs. 2. Pick out your own items. 3. Bring them to her to ring up and throw in a bag (no boxes because that costs too much?). I'm not a fan of the dry baked goods, BUT it is a standard thing. I liked that there was plenty of parking on the street and that the hours are incredibly long. I'd recommend them to someone looking for a Panaderia as long as they know what they should expect as far as dry bakery items. Diamond Bakery... a diamond in the rough? :)

They have a big selection of pies and cakes to be cooked on demand, not too many availble premade and the ones on display looked to have been there a few days already. I do like that they have a number of fruit pies available in 2 hours and the cakes have a fairly quick turnaround. I ended up selecting a quiche and essentially two types of cinnamon rolls, which one was the traditional and the other had an apple filling they called a "rose" or "flower" cant recall. Quiche was delicious and so was the traditional cinnamon roll, I would pass on the apple filled one in the future, had this strong bitter flavor that was off putting, possibly too much lemon. As of now its average, I'll hold off a final verdict until i try a pie and a cake.
