Steak and eggs with a bagel and side of home fries - A breakfast meal on a white plate includes two toasted bagels, scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes with onions, and a cooked beef patty. The plate is placed on a pink table, with a hand visible in the top right corner and a napkin nearby.

Went for an early breakfast with the family. There was only 2 workers. (The cook and the look waitress). So the wait time was pretty long. Luckily the waitress was very attentive to our table. When the food came out, it was alright. Potatoes and hash browns were very good. Got the steak and eggs. Steak was good! Stop in if you'd like a retro looking diner ambiance and nice tasting food. Just don't expect fast service for the food.

Menu - A laminated breakfast menu from D's Diner in Penn Hills, PA, displaying sections for breakfast, omelettes, sandwiches, sausage gravy meals, sides, kid meals, and drinks. The menu includes items such as two eggs, pancakes, omelettes with various fillings, sandwiches, and kid meal options with prices. The menu emphasizes cash-only payments and is open daily from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Great breakfast diner. Excellent food as and service. Support small and local business. Highly recommended. Will visit again soon.

Full breakfast - A breakfast plate includes two fried eggs, two slices of toasted bread, roasted potato chunks, two sausage patties, and slices of ham. The plate is on a white table, with a glass of water nearby, and part of a person wearing a red shirt is visible.

This diner is cash only without an ATM on-site so I would advise people to be prepared. The atmosphere is a fun, retro feel with memorabilia from the 40's and 50's adorning the walls. The BLT I ordered was pretty good but definitely needed more of the B. The fries are fresh cut and taste better than your average fries. The waitress was fairly pleasant but my dining companion and I definitely felt rushed out although we were the only people sitting in the section. It was an alright experience but I don't think I'll be going out of my way to visit again.

a stack of pancakes with butter and bacon - The image shows a white plate holding two stacked pancakes with a pat of melting butter on top. The pancakes are golden-brown and appear fluffy. Next to the pancakes, there are several strips of cooked bacon with a crispy appearance. The presentation suggests a breakfast meal, with the pancakes and bacon arranged on a plain white plate.

A decent spot in Penn Hills. Ended up here because other places nearby were too busy. Plenty of parking. The restaurant space could be a little cleaner. Staff was friendly and service was pretty quick. The food was excellent, I had the blueberry pancakes. Prices are very reasonable. Would recommend checking it out.

We are regulars here. However, it's our first time dining during the COVID pandemic. The business provides hand sanitizer for each table; limits occupancy. If you're not comfortable with NO mask, stay home! Staff do not wear masks. I don't think the increased number of patrons was considered when they expanded. They did not increase grill size. We waited over 30 mins for two omelettes and toast. Food was good but service was just "okay." We'll definitely reconsider dining in next time.

Great HOT Coffee.

This was our first but not last time to visit the Donut Shack. Service was fast and friendly. Food was very delicious. Donuts were very good also. We recommend this little gem to anyone looking for a good breakfast.

I've made this my weekly Sunday morning Breakfast! Food is like my grandmas homemade. Price is great but they only take cash.

Delicious!!

Great little diner spot, but be prepared to wait a while for food. Dined here two mornings in a row with over an hour wait for two people.

Good traditional diner food and friendly staff. But incredibly slow service. I have waited literally 1/2 hour for a breakfast omelette.

Perhaps the best part of the meal was the hash browns, shredded but served in the style of a large potato pancake.

I was very skeptical of the hype around this place. I generally am not the type to stand in a very…read morelong line for food. But I was in the area one Saturday morning around 9 am and the line looked manageable so figured I'd try and see if I could get some. I waited maybe 10-15 mins, so not too bad. My 5-star review is 100% due to the old fashioned donut. When it was my turn to order they had literally just brought out a tray of donuts that looked really good. I asked what they were and was told "old fashioned". Since they just came out fresh I decided to get a couple. I should've got a dozen of just those. Since it was my first time I picked several others to try and they were all fine, but the old fashioned - elite. I would definitely wait in another (10-15 min manageable) line for those specifically. My husband had to talk me down from returning the next day to get more lol.

If you are truly looking for some of the best donuts in the Pittsburgh area, then look no further…read more Better Maid is a locally-owned small business with some of the best cake donuts I have ever tasted. Located on Steuben Street in the West End, this shop dates back several decades. It is located in an unassuming white building, with little signage. However, there is plenty of street parking along with the private lot on the side. This place does not necessarily have set business hours. They have an open time, and go until they sell out. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday they are open at 7 AM, and the weekends is 8 AM. I would advise arriving for the set open time if you are planning to get donuts on any given day. Especially on the weekend, they will sell out within an hour or two (yes, the donuts are that good!!). Plan accordingly if you are planning to stop. It is not unusual for a line to be forming 30+ minutes before the doors open. The plus of getting there early like that is that you will be one of the first served, and therefore able to get first picks! The selection of donuts rotates each day. There is not necessarily a schedule on which this occurs, but they might have a flavor today that they will not have tomorrow. Some of my favorites overtime have been the blueberry cake, pumpkin cake, cherry "sandwich" filled, sour cream, and so many more. I have asked the staff before if/when they would be making a particular kind, and they will let you know if they have an idea, so do not be afraid to ask. They sell cake donuts, regular donuts, long Johns, cinnamon rolls, and other speciality items each day. There are also donut holes, while are quite honestly some of the best I have ever tasted anywhere. They are usually warm and melt in your mouth. Do not leave without buying some if they are available. The value here is unbeatable. With the donuts being homemade and fresh, the prices are the best anywhere. They are even cheaper than somewhere like Dunkin, but the quality is 100 times better. This is probably another reason the people keep coming back for these delicacies. However, note that it is CASH ONLY! When I first started coming here, an older gentleman owned the place. He was so friendly and social to everyone who walked through the door. I always enjoyed interacting with him when I came by. A few years ago, a younger couple bought the business. However, the previous owner still works alongside them, which is cool to see! The new owners have been more consistent with being open during advertised open days, and are active on their Instagram account. This helps with knowing specials, when they sell out, if there is a change in being open, etc. Before, the days were sometimes hit or miss if they would be open. However, this has improved a lot since the new ownership has been in place. I love Better Maid - there truly is not a better cake donuts or donut hole anywhere I have tried in Pittsburgh. Plus, it is local people producing a handmade product, which is something everyone can get behind supporting. I just wish there were set hours sometimes, but that is part of the culture of the business. So, plan on brining your cash and waking up early for these delicious treats.
