Basis for my starred ratings (which skews heavily to the food or drink): 1 star: Never again. 2 stars: Poor food, poor experience, extraordinary measures in order for me to come back. 3 stars: Average, nothing really special, nothing particularly bad. 4 stars: Very good, would definitely return. 5 stars: A favorite, one of the best. Pretty darn good donut. Stopped in for a single donut just to give it a try. Ordered a plain glazed yeast donut. Worker was super friendly and threw in an extra donut for me (not included in this rating.) More than anything, I liked the glaze. Not too thick and not too sweet, it was a light layer of frosting that didn't cake off onto your fingers like grocery store donuts and was sweet enough to complement the donut itself. There was decent rise in the yeast donut - the rise line could be thicker, and maybe the donut fried a little longer, but the consistency and taste were fine. Not the best raised donut out there, but solid. I would say the flavor of the dough was average, the texture above average, and the frosting very good, resulting in this 4-star review. read more

I had the pleasure of being on this side of town and I wanted to get something to munch on. Alas, saw this shop on Hot and New, so gave it a shot and the rest is history. From the outside, it looks like your normal donut shot, but from the inside, it is very, very different. I noticed the bamboo-like counter and stainless steel first. It's not your typical set up for donuts. Inside, the ceilings are high and the decor is very modern, yet minimalistic. The floors are concrete, which adds as nice touch. The donuts here are what I came here for, so lets get started. First off, my eyes were immediately drawn the the cereal topped donuts. I saw fruity pebbles, captain crunch, cocoa puffs, fruit loops, lucky charms, cinnamon toast crunch, and from the looks of it, this is genius, mixing breakfast cereals with donuts. A win-win situation. I had the fruity pebbles donut and it was delicious. The donut itself wasn't sweet at all and what I noticed about all the raised donuts is that they are considerable raised higher than other donut shops. This can only mean they use quality ingredients in their donuts. I also appreciate the fact that the owner was able to help me decide on what donuts to get and didn't rush me. They also have apple fritters that I will hopefully try next time and an array of other donut classics and some that are a twist to your typical fare. There is much more planned for this donut shop and I can't wait to see what happens. They also have smoothies, coffee, and croissants. Let me tell you a little secret. I am a carbaholic. I need help. Donuts are no exception as they are my weakness of all weaknesses. You can bribe me, tempt me, or buy things from me with donuts. But don't mix my fondness of donuts with the stereotype that Cambodians like to own donut shops. I am Cambodian but I'm a person first and I just happen to love me some bomb diggity donuts. Low and behold, Donut Parlor. The answer to the heavy busy street of Elliot and Priest, near the I-10 freeway. They are situated from the street view on Elliot Road, so you cannot miss them. What I love most about the donuts here is its simplicity and pure quality and taste. It begins with that mentality that makes them outstanding. If there is one kind of donut that I often go for, it is the classic raised glazed. I measure a place by how soft, chewy and tasty it is. Donut Parlor did exceptionally well in this department. One can never go wrong with this selection. Most of their donuts in fact are raised based. Some of the raised options include cereal toppings with colorful icing. Essentially you are faced with a dilemma of trying to choose your favorite childhood cereal, anywhere from Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Puffs, Lucky Charms, and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My other raised favorites are the Twisties, the ones that look like hair braids and to a limited raised extent the Fritters--soft, chewy, with a hint of crispiness. Beyond the donuts, you can also order special fruit smoothies like watermelon and plenty others. Because I'm in my summer dieting routine, I've opted for some strong, smooth, delicious coffee, straight up black. For sure, I would order that over and over with a raised glazed donut. The decor is a modern industrial look--clean and simple. The donuts are displayed in a clear glass above a bamboo counter with some marble trimming. The folks behind the counters are extremely friendly and humble and will not hesitate to deliver you the best service you can get for a high quality Mom-n-Pops. The future is bright for Donut Parlor. My favorite donut is the lemon poppyseed, but the captain crunch is a close second, and the galaxy donuts are the most fun for sure. But there are sweet options for those that do. I am more of a cake donut person. This is such a cute donut shop! We were welcomed right away when we walked in. I got a half dozen box of assorted donuts and the chocolate one was really moist, fresh, and soft (haven't tried the other kinds yet but they all look really good!). We went around 2:30 p.m. and I was really impressed with the softness of the donuts, because most other places don't have that fresh, just-made taste. We also got Thai tea with boba. The tea is really good with the right amount of sweetness and the boba is better than most boba places in AZ. It was chewy and not hard at all. I saw this place show up on Yelp and went to check it out with my boyfriend.. This location has only been open for only two weeks so they had a few things out to put together.. Overall the staff was pretty nice they greeted us right away.. My boyfriend and I ordered chocolate doughnut with chocolate glazed, chocolate glazed with fruity pebbles on top, original glazed , a big cinnamon roll type of doughnut.. They have us a strawberry glazed with fruity pebbles on top for free which I thought it was nice of them.. Their doughnuts are good but I think some of them will taste better if we got them while they were still fresh.. Couple of our doughnuts were a lil dry but other than that this place was good.. Donut pass on this tasty place! Donut Parlor has so many fun treats to choose from. Located in a sleepy shopping strip, this place is a hidden gem. They create brightly colored donuts with all sorts of cereal toppings and candies. My favorite is the strawberry frosted with fruity pebble cereal topping. The donuts are moist and have a much higher raise than most chain donuts. I love that they aren't super heavy or sugary sweet. The flavor of the dough is a nice balance to the sweet flavors of frostings. They also have most traditional ones too like chocolate glazed, cream filled and bear claws without all the fancy toppings. So there's something for everyone here! I stopped here, before picking up the kids from school, because I figured a donut would cure the sweet tooth I had. I walked in and saw all sorts of custom made donuts on display. My first choice was the maple donut with bacon on top, I also selected the maple long john, and the peanut butter and jelly. The person working, should have remembered her name because she was great, told me to pick a couple more flavors because I would save $$$. So I asked if the had an apple flavor donut. She said she could make it real quick, went to the back and came out with the most delicious looking apple pie donut I've ever seen. I was excited that she made this for me. She also recommend the lemon poppy seed donut and the original glaze. While I was paying for the donuts, she explained to me how they got greats reviews in the newspaper and what to look for while eating these bad boys. I thanked her and left to get the kids. I got home, opened the box, and swore I heard a harp playing and a glow come from these donuts! My kids were super excited. We tried the apple pie first...melted in my mouth, the we had the lemon poppy...my taste buds started to bow down! These donuts were amazing. I drove about 30 mins to come here because it was 5 stars, that's rare! I have been getting apple fritters around town as a way to compare donuts. I also wanted to try a donut hole, which the owner tossed in a few extra ones as well. So nice, right? Customer service here was definitely good. Donuts came out to be $2.46. Now, lets break down the donuts: Apple Fritter: Yum, but the humps on the fritter were very uneven so some parts were fluffier than others. It was good though, and wasn't overly sweet. Donut Holes: Glazed: This was ok, a little more dense than I had hoped for. Cinnamon: This was awesome. I ate it in my car, and kind of made a mess all over my seat lol so worth it. Great flavor. I will drive 15 extra miles to get these donuts. Hands down these are the best donuts in the East Valley that I know of. Not only are their donuts good but try the Thai tea. It isn't that artificial powder tea you buy at other places. Another recommendation would be their iced coffee. I should also mention that I went around 3:00 in the afternoon for the donuts and they still tasted fresh. Lastly, I have to mention how awesome the guy at the counter who helped us was. So glad I stopped here after work. I got off work early, but twice the amount of stress. I stopped at McDonald's and their McFlurry machine was down. On my way out of the parking lot I saw Donut Parlor and decided to stop in for some Thai Boba Tea. I ended up leaving with about a dozen donuts as well and had a nice conversation with Chad, who was very friendly and provided excellent service. After chatting with Chad, I forgot about some of my obstacles that made my day suck and now have boba and donuts to make the rest of my day great. Every time I visit Donut Parlor, I have a great experience! I discovered Donut Parlor randomly through an ad on Yelp and saw that they were rated 5 stars and got curious. Being someone with such a sweet tooth and having tried numerous doughnut and dessert shops in the area and wherever I go, I decided to check them out. After only 5 minutes in the shop I already knew why they are rated as they are! I was able to meet and chat with the owner and he's such a friendly, personable, humble and hardworking guy. He was helpful in recommending flavors and answering any questions I had and really took the time. I was told that their bestsellers are the apple fritters and blueberry doughnuts which I didn't hesitate to include in my order. I also ordered the maple bacon doughnut and the infamous cereal doughnuts that are always being mentioned and was even given an extra PBJ doughnut to try as well! Boy, did the doughnuts not disappoint! We loved every flavor and doughnut we tried! They were fluffy, fresh, soft, and just the right chewiness, texture, and sweetness. I'm a real coffee lover and I was also able to try their iced Cambodian coffee. It was fresh, smooth and strong, with no bitter aftertaste. Great quality coffee for sure! They may have other competition out there, but their doughnuts and service will have others running for their money. Found this parlor the other day and am happy to say they are quite delicious. You will find everything from your normal glazed, filled and their stuffed donuts. The kids really loved the cap'n crunch covered strawberry ones while I opted for the apple fritters along with a pineapple bottled drink. A cross between Bosa and Voodoo, this is a wonderful option for bringing treats to friends, family or just for yourself. The first time I went in, it was around noon time on a Saturday. With so many choices, I asked for some help. The proprietor recommended the butterfly (cinnamon twist) and blueberry donuts. I got those as well as the chocolate frosted red velvet. Needless to say, they were awesome. A few weeks later I brought the office a dozen. More interesting choices early in the morning including the bacon topped maple donuts!! My favorites are the Red Velvet crumble and the Maple Old-fashioned. I appreciate that there are donut classics along with their own unique creations. Prices are very reasonable for donuts of this quality. In LA, it'd easily be twice the cost. Our friends in Phoenix always have a box ready for us when we stay with them. read more
