Was brought here for my birthday from the girlfriend. Recently converted Vegan, we love our vegan joints to chow down to. We came here on a Saturday morning and this place was booming. We were seated right away and our server along with the rest of the staff were absolutely amazing. After finally settling on the country fried chick'n, with gravy, collard greens, and hash browns (the misses got the biscuit). Along with the appetizer of some awesomely crisp tater tots. This meal was absolutely amazing. I didn't leave one bite left over and cleaned that plate absolutely clean! Every piece to that meal was delicious from the greens to the hash to the chik'n. I had tried the misses biscuit she had ordered and it wasn't dry and scrumptious as well. That wasn't even the best part of this meal. She had treated me to a dozen and TWO BANANA FRITTERS AND I LOVE MYSELF SOME FRITTERS. Those donuts we had eaten was amazing! We bought a dozen; practically one of each and they all tasted exact the same just different extremely sweet frosting on top. I was hoping for the pumpkin pie to taste like pumpkin but it didn't. Hands down the best donut shop coffee ever. I keep going back in disbelief that it's actually that delicious. I'm not actually a big fan of donuts, theirs are tasty but I'm not the person to ask if they're mind blowing. I thought the apple fritter was pretty good and the chunks of apple in it were delightful. The breakfast taco however is fucking scrumptious and huge. The garlicky greens and toast will keep vampires away and make you feel like you ate something healthy at a donut shop but pulled a fast one because you enjoyed it. Everyone seems to be ordering a burrito of some sort, so next time I'm getting that. I only wish they'd remove the picture of Anti-Vax Von D off the wall. I'm just over the moon I work in an area where great food is nearby, even within walking/biking distance if you are feeling ambitious. I was very pleased to find pepples donuts just a near couple of blocks from work. I think my first pepples experience was at Philz coffee in Berkeley but coming to the place where they make the donuts, you get a plethora of different flavors. Once you walk in the donut display case is on your right and there are many assorted options. I've had coconut, chocolate, strawberry and salted caramel all delicious. Yes different texture, nice crispy crunch on the outside, not your traditional type donuts but all organic ingredients and not overpoweringly sweet like krispy cream. I was excited to visit here again after several years. Unfortunately, they now seen to be coasting. At 9:30 on a Thursday, five employees were working. I was not greeted when I came in and tables were dirty. I went to the restroom and an employee exited. In the restroom there was NO SOAP. That means no one checked it last night or this morning. Of the five employees and the manager. And our donuts were made with unwashed hands. (A full dispenser isn't depleted in two and a half hours.) I told the first person I saw who said he'd tell the manager. I also told the cashier. Neither seemed disturbed or apologized. My donuts were cold. Not room temperature, cold. Were they refrigerated? I really wanted some vegan breakfast so I overlooked the blaring music and took a seat. The service was fine but the Pebbles scrambled tofu I ordered were so salty I couldn't eat them and I had to navigate around some sort of inedible stem that was mixed in with the scramble. The hash browns and whole wheat toast were fine, but I probably won't be back. In all, a so-so experience. I tasted the individual ingredients in the scramble and all were fine, on their own, except the tofu, which was just LOADED with salt, making the entire dish inedible. Really disappointed. I ordered via DoorDash and requested some raised donuts for the half dozen. Their raised donuts are awesome. Without contacting me they fulfilled my order with no raised donuts and wrote a note on the box saying they won't deliver raised donuts. (They did write it politely) Their non-raised donuts all taste really similar and are really too sweet for me so I'm incredibly disappointed that I spent money on a half dozen of donuts when they could have noted that they don't deliver yeast donuts on their DoorDash menu (it does mention "cake" donuts, but doesn't say anything about them not delivering yeast donuts) or minimum reach out to me letting me know they couldn't fulfill my request. It's hard to find good vegan food. We had three orders of their hot chicken. The outside of the crispy fried tofickin gave it that first hard crunch. Hidden where clumps of sweet, salty and peppery flavors of spices inbetween the ridges of the breaded layer, which had been dowsed in hot sauce. You feel the heat of the hot sauce directly after the spices. It's the kind of heat that hits you in the beginning. For me, an avid spicy food hunter, it wasn't bad and enhanced the other flavors. My woman had to take breaks in between bites. The inside portion after the crunch was firm and porous with savory flavors that seep out with every bite as you chew through. The donuts here are out of this world. Its been a while since I could eat a cake donut, so when I snagged brunch at this spot on my birthday, I ATE TWO. I got the vanilla sprinkle and the salted caramel. The vanilla sprinkle was super sweet and yummy, but the salted caramel was the main event. The donuts were pleasantly crispy on the outside, with a spot-on cake texture inside. dense and delicious. As for our actual entrees...honestly...i wasnt a huge fan. I ordered buffalo cauliflower bites which i found to be deliciously saucy and crispy on the outside, but aggravating to eat due to their awkward size. I appreciate all things double battered, but i guess my appreciation dwindles when its a giant bland cauliflower chunk versus...anything else. I also ordered the hot "chicken" basket. The fried were oily as all hell but impeccably salted (so of course I ate them anyway). The texture of the "chicken" itself was everything i couldve hoped for, but it smelled strongly of wheat and had a slightly sweet seasoning which ruined it for me. I wish there was a buffalo "chicken" option. It couldve used the sauce. All in all, the donuts are the saving grace of this place. I love trying new vegan places and I hate leaving not great reviews. Unfortunately, I had not such a great experience. I came here for my birthday late on a Sunday and was very disappointed. My partner and I we're not welcomed in and ended up waiting to be seated in a mostly empty restaurant for a few minutes with the servers just staring at us. When we are sat down, we were told they were closing the kitchen soon so we'd have to order quickly with 40 min to closing. The biscuits we got were colder than room temperature and the greens (kale) that came with it we're unseasoned and hard to eat. No one checked in on us until my partner had to yell to get the attention of the staff to ask for her food to be warmed up. The biscuits themselves were fine, but were hard and cold. The sausage is not good at all. The restaurant looked old and dirty, and we spent half our time eating, pushing flies away from our food. All this being said, the donuts we got were good and they offered us a discount for the lack luster food. I wouldn't come here again due to the uncleanliness, the poor service and suboar food, except for maybe a donut. This review is not an exaggeration. I ended up getting four donuts, the coconut curry, chocolate cookie, blueberry and Philz coffee. The best one would have to be the blueberry. It was the moistest in texture and packed the best flavor. The chocolate cookie was super dry. The coconut curry tasted like a Thai curry, but it was too weird for me to get on board. XD Most notable were: Lemon poppy- Damn good. The tart zing in the glaze cuts off the sugar nicely. Blueberry- Solid! Coconut curry- Interesting..not sure if I can fully get behind this one, but for the savory sweet crew, I could see this working for them WTF!- I'm not sure I could really taste the whiskey, the but tangerine peels are the real deal!
