Middle of donut case & savory menu at Donut Avenue in Calipatria, Ca, USA
    James W.

This cultural-mash-up oasis in the southeastern California desert has no parallel in my native San Diego. The name says donuts but it's ever so much more. Mexican food, including tortas, that comes with a high-quality salsa. Fat kid pizza & calzones. A 3-door commercial cooler. Quarter vending machines. An arcade room. It's all something of a boyhood dream, nay a dream come true even now. I can't decide if Donut Ave should prosper through greater renown, or stay hidden lest it become spoiled. Either way, Donut Avenue will always have been & that's gonna be enough for me

Not your typical donut shop. They serve Mexican, Chinese food along with hamburgers etc.

The building also has a gift shop and bar. It is cozy throughout the building, specifically, a cabin feel. The staff at the counter were very helpful and patient. I ordered a kale salad with chicken. It was a hefty serving. I did ask for extra balsamic dressing at the time of my order and I'm glad I did since I had a lot of greens. Everything was fresh and the candied pecans added in were delicious and added a nice crunch to the salad. I ordered a side of sweet potato fries and they were perfecto! It was crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. I enjoyed my lunch out on the patio deck facing north east. I had the view of the hills and got to watch people drive into or leave Borrego Springs. Some of the planks on the floors and side rails were starting to show their age or had been damaged. Overall, a great experience at the joint. I look forward to having another bite at the restaurant when I camp here again in 2025.

On my way back home in Ranchita I decided to grab Lunch in Borrego Springs at, Big Horn Burgers $ Shakes. 221 Palm Canyon Dr, Ste 956, Borrego Springs, CA 92004 https://www.palmcanyonrvresort.com/restaurant/ It was my second time at this Resort Restaurant but the first time after becoming Big Horn Burgers & Shakes. Nice Decor with a western feel and a small bar also. The Staff was super helpful and nice. Service was fast, friendly and quick to deliver. The Menu is small but well laid out. I ordered Their Most Popular Burger, The Double Desert Storm Burger Two Charbroiled 1/4 Pound Beef Patties, Pepper-jack Cheese, Crispy Sweet Potato Strings, Sliced Avocado and Jalapeño Cilantro Aioli. A Great Flavor Combination. The Beef was full of Smoky Grilled Flavor. Was a bit overpriced at $16.00 and didn't come with a side but was a Tasty Burger for a Resort Burger I will try another from the menu sometime. The Hand cut fresh French Fries were very good and only $3.50 Had to try one of their, Chocolate Hand - Spun Milkshakes. Don't know why they call it that seeing it came out of a mixing machine ‍‍‍. $8.00 Super flavorful and Delicious but also a bit pricy for a shake. Beside being a Resort Burger Restaurant and a little pricy this place is worth stopping for lunch if your visiting Borrego Springs and want a decent Burger to fill the hole. Enjoy My Friends.

We started out with the Drunken Tots. Wonderful! For dinner, I ordered the Turkey burger, and my husband and grandson each ordered the Bistro Burger. The burgers were loaded with all kinds of yummy toppings and we all enjoyed each bite. Meals are served with fries and a pickle. Perfect! Although we were stuffed, we split the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding for dessert. It was topped with a salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. So good! The food was good overall and definitely satisfied the burger craving. The experience, however, was a little mixed. The service felt a bit awkward at times, and a few interactions with the staff just rubbed me the wrong way. Nothing major, just an odd vibe. The location itself could have been a little cleaner and more polished. I also noticed the Guy Fieri feature on the wall--which is cool--but at the end of the day, the food and experience still have to speak for themselves. Overall, the burger was good, but the service and atmosphere left some room for improvement.

My husband and I came here while on vacation (after spending the day in Joshua Tree National Park). We chose it based on the good reviews and it lived up to expectations. We started with the fries, which stayed nice and crispy (I suggest you follow the server's recommendation and get the habanero sauce so you can double dip in that and the ketchup). I had the delicious Dank House salad. It sounded like an odd combination of flavors (with Brussels sprouts, beets, apples, blue cheese and horseradish dressing) but it all works! Genius! My husband had the rotating chicken sando which was Korean bbq inspired and had amazing flavor! We also had a couple of the local beers on tap. It's kind of a quirky place. Has a little bit of a diner feel on the inside but had a DJ playing music on Saturday evening, which provided some good background music and added to the ambiance without being too loud. The bartender and servers were all very friendly and helpful. If we lived here, this would be a weekly hang out spot for us!
