We stopped here for lunch on a road trip and it was very good! I had the BLT and fried okra, and both were excellent. My husband had the Rueben and Onion Rings, and he enjoyed both. My son had a hamburger and fries. The burger was good. The fries weren't bad but nothing special-they seemed like Ore Ida baked fries. My husband and I were traveling through Pocahontas from Wisconsin to Texas for a Christmas with family. We yelped a good place to eat and Don's Steakhouse came up with stellar reviews. A former review named Cassidy the best server in the place, so I was puzzled when our server's name was Jess, and she was obviously the best in the place! Could it be they're all great? Possibly. Cassidy, it seems, had a baby and works part time now. The fabulous Jess has 8 years of experience, and who knows what other terrific servers you may encounter. The bottom line is the food is SO good, you'll want to eat there! We had a scrumptious filet and huge ribeye with luscious sweet potatoes, salad bar and Texas toast. Since I love hush puppies and they don't come with steak, we ordered an appetizer of them. You get a whole dozen of the best I've ever eaten! We will plan our next trip to Texas through Pocahontas so we can revisit this awesome place. read more

This was a highly recommended restaurant when we moved here but I wasn't impressed at all! This place hasn't seen an update or a bottle of windex since the 90's. For sure! The food was also super low quality. My burger, which I expected to be amazing since it's a steakhouse, was instead a frozen patty of zero taste. The salad bar seemed to be a big hit but I couldn't get anything once I saw how grimy it was. Overall, not impressed. Maybe I just went at a horrible time. read more

I received a recommendation to eat at Don's if I wanted a good steak. They were right! I ordered the ribeye. It was tender, seasoned correctly, and cooked as I ordered. The sides were good. Service was very good. They gave me quick service and were pleasant. The decor is what I expected for a small town. The tables were kept cleared and clean. In Pocahontas for the week on business. I stayed away from Don's the first couple nights due to the low review rating. But seen they had open salad bar so thought I would try it. Had the 16 oz ribeye with baked potato and bread. It was delicious cooked just right, tender and flavorful. Service was great and never had to ask for a thing. Prices are good too. Just after July 4 I had a late afternoon meal (with family and friends) at Don's Steakhouse in Pocahontas. First, service was prompt and genuinely pleasant. I ordered the 8 oz. Ribeye, which turned out to be one of the best Ribeye's I have had in a long time. My order came with a salad, which you get yourself at the salad bar. I had help selecting the ingredients to what was a fresh, delicious salad. Again, one of the best I have had in ages. The pickled Ocra was new to me. I enjoyed every bite. We all came back the next day, experiencing the same results. Great steak, perfect salad. Service that made me feel at home. read more

We stopped for a late lunch and were pleasantly surprised! Food was cooked fresh and tasted good. We starting with an onion bloom and it was everything you'd expect. Few real restaurants here. & Even fewer stay open for Dinner. Interior is old & tired. Salad Bar is popular but ordinary. Fried Catfish is a fave, & other menu items are good except for the steaks. I've had the Ribeye & Filet several times but the quality is nowhere near Skinny J's / 501 Steakhouse / Omar's / or Jerry's Steakhouse. Next time I'll order fish or chicken. read more

I cannot speak for the food because I could not get waited on. In the area I sat, I saw two waitresses at a table with a customer; one was sitting at the table and one was standing, and both were talking to a him. They were not waiting on the customer, but were just talking. I was ignored, so I left. As I was leaving, I walked past both waitresses, and one glanced at me and the other did not stop talking long enough to even glance at me. I have worked in customer service for over 20 years, so I know how customers should be treated. This was completely unexceptable behavior from wait staff. read more

Ordered the bacon wrapped filet mignon (medium) with shrimp, a baked potato, and salad. *Salad bar is pretty standard but had some good dressings and was tasty *Potato was really good but cheese should be offered otherwise I'd like to go up to the salad bar to get some! *Steak was awesome! Great flavor and texture, props to the chef : ) *Shrimp.... I don't know if there was a grilled option or not but they came fried and boy were they greasy! Better than a three star but not quite a four, Don's is one of the better steak houses in the area. One would have to drive 50 miles to do better. Their sirloin is as good as you'll find in any chain steak house. They are renown for their Thursday night fish buffet. The food is good, overall, but the decor could stand some improvement. However, I don't pay to eat the scenery. As is the bane of any restaurant in Randolph County, diners cannot enjoy an adult beverage there. I expect Don's will continue to be one of my haunts for a while yet. read more

Omgosh where do I begin. We travel nationwide. We are gone 3 weeks out of a month easily. We were referred to Don's being there's really not many places to eat in this town. So with an open mind and empty bellies we went. Wow. The steaks are amazing. Even good two days later as leftovers. I can't say enough. If you're within 100 miles of this place you need to get over here and eat. The staff are friendly and precious and just bring you pure goodness. What a beautiful place to eat. The waitresses are really sweet. Most of their food is way over salted. We eat here a lot because my aunt loves their sweet potatoes. Their steak is ok, however they will burn it if you ask for medium well or well . We have complained before to the owner which really makes her mad making me uncomfortable. She wont admit mistakes. read more
