We've been here several times, really a great restaurant setting and the food and service are always good. But I have one suggestion for them. We got the catfish and it was very disappointing. The actual fish part was very thin with a thick coating of breading. It didn't taste bad but there wasn't much fish to it. I won't order that again unless they change to regular filets. read more

Stop in for lunch on a Tuesday. Not to well attended so we're concerned. The staff was pleasant and attentive. Good came quickly and was good. Nothing outstanding but well prepared and tasty. I ordered medium sirloin steak on my birthday yesterday dinner. When i got my steak it was well done. I automatically informed the waitress about it and so she went to informed the kitchen about my steak she went back and said that they want to see the steak and she did brought it to them. She went back and said that they're doing my steak. 10mins pass maybe or longer. But she brought my steak and it was medium unseasoned and burn outside. I am not sure if the kitchen did it intentionally out of spike or idk if they're kitchen is just the worst. I didn't even want to complain again caught i hate to waste the food. I only had 3 bites but didn't eat anymore cause it was unseasoned and burnt after taste. They gave $15 discount and she also forget my husband's salad so we just take out the salad because she forgot about it. The River has a nice location overlooking the river flowing through Batesville. It has a spacious dining room but don't expect elegance. Definitely a family style restaurant. Our waitress was nice and got drinks out in good order. I gave a 3 star rating. Overall food was between a 3-4 star judging from the adults' reaction. My catfish was fine. The kids didn't care about the food, just having fun. Our daughter was left behind with her dessert order after everyone was through eating. Two stars. Cons: My wife's filet was overcooked. The twice-baked potato was nasty, I asked if they made them there, the waiter said yes. However, they were all gray and seemed to have been made in the morning and left all day then microwaved just before service. Not worth the extra $2.50 charge as a premium side. Instead i asked for potato chips, which was a small bag of Lays you can buy at Costco in bulk and asked to remove the extra charge, which they did. Pros: After the filet was overcooked, my wife asked for the ribs instead, which was the Thursday special. The waiter obliged, and removed the filet from the ticket. My filet was cooked perfectly, but for a filet was a little tough. It had nice flavor, though. The baked beans were the highlight, though. Can't order a rare burger, they use low-quality meat, so you have to have it medium or cremated. I didn't order one. I can't remember the entree I ordered, actually. I remember not eating it, whatever it was. Just one bite and then eating the cold fries. Server was terrible. Seriously terrible. Food was cold, and not good at all. Mermaid water cocktails were nice, but would have been nicer if the server had ever come back to the table to offer us another round. Had to Inconvenience her by interrupting her "dump and run" of the cold plates and asking her for a drink. We weren't the only ones who got terrible service and disappointing food. This was our first time returning to the restaurant since it has been rebranded as the "Best Dam Steakhouse." Josie's had been my restaurant of choice for a reasonably priced night out in the area, but tonight's experience left a lot to be desired. The service was friendly, but not extremely attentive. Our food came out in a timely manner but wasn't up to par for what we paid. A single pizza for 15 should be a higher quality than the local Pizza Hut. I also noticed that many, if not most of the items on the menu had increased in price enough that our regular order was too far out of our budget.The experience we had felt shadowed by the old Josies and I don't know when we'll be making a return visit. Pros -Friendly Service -Pizza toppings and sauce were well portioned and flavored. -Menu was largely maintained from Josie's old menu. Cons -Service was very rushed at times, despite good natured servers. -Most popular menu items had a price increase of ~$2 (Menu was not cheap to begin with.) -$5 Salsa tasted like it had come from a store-bought jar. -Pizza crust was lack luster (even a little olive oil would've been nice). Felt and tasted not entirely dissimilar to communion bread. -Either less mozzarella on the pizza or different white cheeses than just mozz would be nice. -Recieved check literally 5 minutes after food arrived, and didn't see server again for what felt like at least 20-30 minutes. We stopped in here mainly because of it he reviews. Those reviews of the scenery that is. Which did not disappoint.the whole side that faces the White River is windows. However the name has changed to The River. I got the pork chop with side salad and broccoli. There was a pepper based seasoning on the chop, that I really enjoyed. My wife got the steak salad, substituted the steak with shrimp. Which she was advised the shrimp would be $2 a piece. So she opted for steak on the side. I finished the steak for her as my desert and it was cooked very well. Ordered it med and that is just the way it came out. This use to be our favorite restaurant in Batesville. What a disappointment we had today. Started with appetizers jalapeño poppers you could not recognize the type of cheese in them and it tasted awful. Deep fried mushrooms, we always get these, were not button mushrooms this time and the batter was different but they were so greasey almost inedible. We had the daily special Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken Parmesan. The chicken fried steak was ok but the mashed potatoes were bland, NO flavor and the green beans were bland and no flavor. The Chicken Parm was disgusting. Pasta noodles were cold, pasta sauce was cold and watery, chicken patty was cold and the mozzarella cheese on top was cold and not even melted. We took our food with us I thought maybe I would try to heat up my pasta but it was so watery it soaked through the to go container and got all over my seat in my truck. WOW did not see that coming. Me and my dad came and ate the Philly Tri tip and it was the bomb! But the wings are a little pricey 18$ for twelve but when you walk in you can tell it's gonna be more expensive. first id like to start off that I'm usually not one to complain, however after this experience I feel like I should say a thing or two, whether this reaches the owner or not. My siblings and I decided to give this place a try after hearing it was good. However what we experienced was anything but good. We had to wait over a hour just to get our food, and while we waited we were only checked up on once, by someone that wasn't even our waitress! They say they were slammed but there was one big party surrounded by maybe 5 other smaller parties and at least 5 waitresses. while we were waiting for our food we kept looking towards the back where the soda fountain is and my siblings and I saw at least 3 of the waitresses sitting in the back eating rolls an talking. My siblings and i were talking amongst ourselves about how long the food was taking when one waitress overheard and immediately went to the back to talk to the other waitresses. We also saw the cooks cooking without hairnets or gloves and didn't see them wash their hands once. After we received our food what we were given was very disappointing. My burger was cold and charred. It was so burnt It was way beyond recognition. It was hard too with how burnt it was, it looked like a lump of coal. Now my sister pasta was also disgusting. It was extremely watered down and just tasted like butter noodles with a slight dusting of garlic. I would also like to note how her chicken Was extremely dry. Also her salad was extremely brown and bad. Now my brothers grilled cheese was alright beside the toast being charred however he still ate it because we were so hungry. Finally after complaining to our waitress she told the manager I'm assuming and they did seem too happy. I understand sometimes places can be understaff and busy as I worked in food service however that was not busy or understaff. they just seemed lazy and inattentive. anyways will not be suggesting this place to anyone or going back there.
