A few years ago Don's Bikes of Rialto opened a new store in Redlands. About six months ago I thought I would give them my business. I've have since decided this was a mistake. In December of 2012 I had them build a 700c wheel around a Schmidt SON 21R dynamo hub with a 32 spoke rim. In August 2013 (six months later) a spoke pulled out of the rim because the nipple failed. They had the gall to charge me $32 to fix it - I complained and got $20 back. It should have been free. A week later two more spokes failed for the same reason. They replaced all the nipples with brass and didn't charge me. Clearly a bad build. In March of 2013 they cleaned the drive train - no problems there. In May of 2013 I had them replace my aging carbon front fork. This was a big deal because I have an old bike and they couldn't get a carbon fork with a threaded steerer tube (I hope I'm saying that right). Anyway, they had to replace the headset and that was difficult because I also have old aerobars that cannot be removed from the handlebars without destroying them. Mike the mechanic did a good job - at least I thought so at first. Unfortunately he partially loosened the aerobars so now they move around as I ride and they can't be tightened or loosened - not his fault really. He also rewired my bike computer with no slack so when I pulled the aerobars up to a more comfortable position the wires pulled out and I had to buy a new wiring harness. But the kicker came in August 2013 when I braked for a corner and my front brakes fell off the frame - MY BRAKES FELL OFF! They fell into the front wheel and bounced out. Thank God they didn't wedge into the wheel while I was braking on a 50mph descent. The brakes broke, a spoke broke, and the dynamo wire was damaged. I took the bike to Don's and they were apologetic. They fixed the brakes and spoke at their expense and I fixed the wire myself (I knew that degree in Electrical Engineering would come in handy one day). They even loaned me a bike until mine was fixed three days later. Despite the fact that they are prepared to admit and fix their mistakes, the fact they make so many of them means I will not be returning there. My wife and daughter both bought bikes there in the past year and they will not be returning either, even for the free tune-ups. With mistakes like this being made even a free tune-up could turn into a hospital trip or worse. Note: My other daughter bought her bike at Don's Bikes of Rialto and I have never had problems there. read more

Went here to pick up some parts for my bike. Waited in line for 40 minutes and skipped me and the young lady in front of me and ignored us because of color. While the l white customers were treated with respect and given a smile and allowed in there store. Very racist read more

Don's Bicycles in Redlands is one of the more, if not the best, customer service friendly bike shops I've ever been to. The staff is always helpful, listen well, provide options and pros and cons. They've even offered to lend me their personal bikes for a few days, to see how I liked the hybrid models. Anyway, they are honest, well-informed, and treat you well. A good team. read more

Came here last week and I was blown away by how friendly and helpful the owner and staff is! I bought a bike seat and was told that if I didn't like it to keep my receipt and come back and I would be able to use that money towards another seat of my choice. I also had asked if they could cut down the seat post and I was told it was a $5 charge so I left and came back with it only for the worker to say it was on the house ! I bought a Giant Stance 29 1 from them and it was a very good experience for buying my first full suspension bike. After we bought it took about 15 minutes for them to inspect the bike, set it up for my weight, and add the sealant for the tubeless tires. Although they couldn't negotiate the price down because of the shortage of bikes during covid, they did offer a sale on any thing I would buy with the bike like helmets, shock pumps, pumps, gloves and peadals. They also have free tune ups for bike from them, I'm not sure if all bikes do, but mine did. read more

Stop by the Rialto store on Saturday after my Riverside Bicycle Club ride. Scott, Ben and the staff were there to assist me with all my cycling needs. I don't give a low score lightly especially from a bike shop I've had a good relationship with for more than 11 years. Over the years I have bought 8 bikes from Don's including 5 kids bikes and 3 high end cross country mountain bikes. The latest one was a 5,000.00 mountain bike this past summer. As part of their incentive to buy a bike from them, they tout the local relationship and free tunes ups which as any biker knows is very important & valuable. This is of course if one assumes the agreement will be honored. Today, I brought my Scott bike in to be serviced along with my wife's bike and the manager Adrian told me a tune up would take 2 weeks. No reasonable human being would expect to wait 2 weeks for a bike tune up if they had bought a high end bike with a maintenance guarantee. The manager gave me no options as I explained we were leaving for a trip the following week. He warned me that soon he estimated the wait would be 1 month. He didn't apologize for their inability to fulfill their maintenance pledge and I felt blown off off as though I was just out of luck. There didn't seem to be any good will. During this pandemic I understand supply chains have been disrupted and especially last year, businesses have struggled to retain workers because of Covid-19. You can't blame Covid-19 forever. Business has been very good for bike shops. They have sold out of every bike they order and their margins are incredible. At some point however, Don's bike's lost track of their customers, and decided profits were more important. Don's bikes sold way too many bikes associated with promises to maintain them that their capacity to honor those promises could not bear. If they could not honor their promises and obligations then they should have sold bikes during this pandemic without the maintenance guarantee. At least that would have been the honest thing to do. read more

I recently did a partial restoration on my first bicycle from when I was a child. The bike is now almost 30 years old and it took quite a bit of TLC to get it looking good and working properly. The idea was to give the bike to my son for Christmas, which would also be his first bicycle. The weekend before Christmas, I had the bicycle most of the way completed, but I was still unsure that I'd be able to finish in time, as this was my first time working on a bike. I brought the bike with me and was at first a little uneasy that it sounded like they wouldn't be able to help me until after the holiday, as they were booked up for repairs. After taking a quick look at what was needed (new grips, a new chain and a quick look at the hub), Shawn took care of my concerns in about 20 minutes and had the bike back to me on the same visit. My son was thrilled to see his new bike on Christmas morning!!! The chain was slightly out of adjustment and I took it back a few days later, which they took care of for free, in about 5 minutes. These guys are knowledgeable, quick and they do quality work. I'll definitely be returning. Thanks guys!!! read more

Just call ahead before you go. They have bikes listed in stock on their website but not on the floor. Hence the zip code option on their home page. They offered me to pay up $200 just to get the bike in I wanted. I'll drive 50mi to ride one for free in stock thanks. I think they had maybe 2 Cannondales on the floor. Plus one of their staff didn't know much about bikes. Didn't tell him my background and noticed I was getting taken advantage of. Commission is key at this store. read more

Routinely visit this shop for accessories, repairs and to look at new bikes. All of my interactions with the staff in the store have been positive. They are patient and helpful, let you try different bikes to determine whether you want a mountain bike, road bike or hybrid. They do not act like bike snobs, use high-pressure tactics or speak only in jargon. Great place to re-enter cycling as an adult or buy a high end dream bike. Glad this shop is in Redlands, but I have even driven to the Rialto store where the owner Scott shared his enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge in the same helpful and fair manner. Just bought a Cannondale Caad 10 and the manager Adrian was great to deal with. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything and they were honest. I took some time to go look around for the best deal and when I came back they were still welcoming and since I felt comfortable and ready it worked well. Been here twice...first time I kinda wandered the store with no acknowledgement from staff...after I couldn't find what I was looking for I asked for help...and the person that helped me was pretty cool (once I got his attention.) He did direct me to the section I needed and also told me there were some in the back clearance section of I was interested. In reality I just wanted to get a feel for different types of handlebar tape. That day I walked our empty handed... Second time I was here I went directly to what I knew I wanted then proceeded to the register... There was a guy there maybe 2 feet away... I tried all the attention getting methods , started with hello, then excuse me, moved on to the fake cough, to the tried and tested ahhheeeeem! But nothing... Dude just walks away and helps someone else. On the inside I was like "ehhh maybe they were here first." So I waited for him to finish... He comes back to the register, mind you I have my product in hand with my arms on the counter, does something quick then leaves again.... Wtf... I then chase him down and ask if he could ring me up..He looked super irritated and made me feel like I was badgering him.
