I recently changed medical insurances, and therefore I wanted to make sure that the practice would accept my new insurance. I called the office of Dr. Donna Scolaro and explained the situation to the receptionist, who was going to "check on the insurance and call me back by the end of the business day. I made a point to ask what time the office closed so that I would be mindful and not miss any incoming calls, and was told "5 o'clock". I never got a phone call back that day, or any other day since then (I checked my cellphone call log to double check). What terrible customer service!!! I'm a little bit "old school", and if an agreement is made, I expect the bargain to be upheld. If there is no answer to be had, the very least that should happen is that a phone call should be returned to state as such, within the timeframe originally agreed upon. Old school or not, it's basic Customer Service 101. I will be making a follow up call to the office manager at Dr. Scolero's practice to at least have the poor doctor be made aware of why her practice might not be doing so well. This is my first time coming here. I found Dr Scolaro friendly and she made me feel comfortable so did her staff.

I do not recommend.. there was a woman staffer at the front desk who was completely rude from the moment we walked in (our first time in as new pt's). I requested assistance with frames for my daughter as I'm not familiar with fittings because I don't wear glasses. The staffer's response to me was "you just have to go through them". I literally went through 2 complete selections with no assistance for approx a half an hour. Not until I observed this staffer tending to a different customer (who came in after us) along with Dr. Scolaro coming from her back office to the front.. only then did this staffer approach to ask if help was needed. We had been there approx 30 min rummaging through frames with 0 help while there were 2 employs at the front desk sitting idle. Although frustrating I still didn't allow this staffer, or situation deter me from purchasing my daughters glasses... In addition, there was a special when you purchase a pair you could get approx. 30% off the second pair of glasses. Whereas, I was purchasing a pair of glasses for my daughter I asked to use the 30% off sunglasses for myself. For some reason this started a debate between Dr. Scolaro and I because for some reason Dr. Scolaro didn't immediately want to offer me the discount although I'm the purchaser and my daughter who shouldn't be deemed a customer independently due to being a young child. I was informed it's "per customer". However, since my daughter is underage I couldn't understand why without debating the discount wouldn't immediately be offered. Although Dr. Scolaro did finally agree. Lastly, worst of all the sunglasses I wanted for myself were not in stock; only the display. I asked if we can order a new pair as I don't normally purchase used product when it comes to designer sunglasses. Dr. Scolaro and the rude front desk person attempted to convince me to purchase the display.. I explained that's not my preference as I don't know if they have been dropped etc. Eventually I was informed that it was no problem to order... when I came in a few weeks later; the sunglasses I ordered completely looked used and I found it suspicious that they just so happen to arrive on the same exact day as my daughters glasses as both of our glasses were ordered from 2 completely different companies. When I put the sunglasses up to the light there were finger-prints on the lens and no professional packaging as a designer company would normally do. I'm no stranger to purchasing designer glasses. I remembered in that moment the staff a few weeks earlier trying to convince me to purchase the display glasses so I looked for them... the display glasses identical to the ones I "ordered" were no longer there. Supposedly, per the rude woman staffer from my initial first visit said: "I guess they were sold".. she also called me "particular" and said if I thought she was lying not to come back. I informed her she didn't need to worry about that because I wouldn't be returning and I reserve the right to be particular when spending my money. I firmly believe this office attempted to pull a fast one on me for whatever their reasoning... my instinct tells me that Dr. Scolaro initiated, or minimally was a part of the attempt of selling me the display sunglasses that I was clear about not wanting to purchase. I do not and will NEVER recommend frequenting an office that I deem untrustworthy with staff who are unkind and dismissive of their customers. I had planned to transfer my daughter to Dr. Scolaro, but that quickly was no longer an option after my experience. read more

I chose Dr. Scolaro after speaking with their "friendly" staff. The appointment time and location was very convenient. I read the negative reviews and thought how bad could this experience be??? IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! Staff = GREAT!! HOWEVER, the Doctor is very impatient and has an extremely prickly personality. Her non-verbals sent the message that she obviously doesn't like her job or the people she is supposed to help...her patients. My opinion is that it is probably time for her to retire. I question how her employees enjoy working with someone like this? I wouldn't!! Anyway. I should have listened to the negative reviews. Needless to say. My husband and I have been going here for about a decade. A lot of the reviews complain about Ms. Scolaro but I actually like her personality and she gets the job done in a timely and pleasant manner. I love when her mom was in the lobby greeting. However, good help is hard to find it seems as the front desk is always a mess. They are unorganized and rude to certain clients. They were not even there on time. The doctor was trying to do three different jobs at once. It is time to move on and support another local eye doctor I am afraid. Also, they still require masks so that's a hard no for me and the final sign it is time to move in and spend my money somewhere else. read more

They moved recently to a nice new building behind Sam's Club and the outlets. I think they are still settling in because of the arrangement of the equipment in the back. Dr Scolaro is a good doctor. She will take her time to find out the right prescription for you. Also her staff will try to find any possible rebates for you contact lenses. Dr Scolaro even provided me with sample contacts and eye drops to try. They told me to try them out a few days and let them know how I like them so that was nice. I have been her patient for many years. I have considered changing doctors but to be quite honest with you her staff were so friendly and so kind and remembered me year after year, I didn't want to leave THEM. It was her staff that kept me coming back to her cold shoulder. Last week I scheduled an appointment, I had written it down for 3 o'clock however the secretary stated that it was for 2 o'clock. First of all I would not have scheduled an appointment for a time that would pull me from work. (Beside the point) when I entered the office the lady behind the counter was asked my name than immediately began to badgering me about my appointment being at two, that she had tried to call and I didn't answer. I explained to her that I don't answer my cell phone at work since my phone is not allowed to go in with me. She kept going without regard to her tone. It's seemed as if she was trying to make a point or needed to show that she was right and I was wrong. This young lady needs some communication skills and should be shown the proper way to talk to customers. I may have been late to the 2 o'clock appointment (that I did not schedule), but this young lady is not helping the business. The staff members that I had mentioned earlier apparently are no longer at this doctors office. And it seems that the new staff have a lot to be desired. As I stated before I wasn't a huge fan of Dr. Scalero, I know I am foolish to have stayed as long as I did, simply because I loved her staff, but is seems as though there is nothing to keep me there. And thanks to the lady I just encountered, there is no chance of me returning. In summary, I would say that Dr. Scalero would be a great doctor to those that are similar to her and personality. I know that there are others like her I met a doctor just like her at Kaiser Vacaville. If you were looking for a doctor that is only interested in coming in checking your eyes and sending you on your way with little conversation....all business, then she would probably be perfect for you. read more

After being a patient for many years I've had it with this rude doctor. Staff is always pleasant. After this years visit I am done with her. After a small misunderstanding I can see her through the many mirrors in the office making comments about me while I was asking for clarification for something I did not understand. I can see her mouth "these people drive me crazy". I was the only patient in the entire office. It fathoms me to think I had just told how many referrals I try to send her and being her patient after so long she would just walk back to her office rather than try to resolve the situation. Won't be back. Rude Dr. Not child friendly whatsoever. My young child was treated like an adult when already nervous about 1st exam. I was given results of child's exam with no explanation. Had to ask what it meant. One word responses. Had to ask more questions which seemed to irritate her. During child's exam Dr. Came to assist staff with machine. No hello, no acknowledgment of my child or myself. After exam, took us to front desk, not even an goodbye. Put chart on desk and turned around and walked away. I walked there a couple weeks ago during the pandemic and they were in the office; but not open to the public and they let me in long enough to give me a free pair of contacts to hold me over until they could open again! WARNING: Dr Donna Scolaro is NOT a kid person!!! I brought my 5 year-old here with a referral from our pediatrician. She came out to get us with the snippiest attitude...no warmth, no eye contact, no introduction, and no explanation as to what she was going to do. My little guy was as good as gold, although a bit uneasy about getting in the chair (he thought it was going to "go back, like the dentist's chair"). I was the only one to say reassuring things - she just snipped and snapped and quickly pushed him through the exam. I really don't think she was thorough. Even though I played it off that everything was fine, I could tell he sensed that she wasn't a kid person. His initial eye exam at the pediatrician indicated that he might have Myopia, she said "he might have it a little, and it should be watched". She didn't offer any advice, though. I was the one that stated what I knew about the condition, and how kids with Myopia should have a lot of outdoor time and not a lot of TV/computer time. I told her about the fact that my son has an identical twin at home, and if he should be checked...She basically said not to bother. Now I'm worried that if I let it go, it could get worse. I'm going to let my pediatrician know that Dr. Scolaro is not a good referral for kids, and I'm going to ask to have my son seen by another optometrist, just to be sure. read more

The office staff are extremely unprofessional. If your voice appears to be of an ethnic group or minority they assume you are on Partnership (Medical). it didn't matter that I was already a patient of theirs and they had my insurance information in my profile. The fact that they asked me if I was on Welfare was racial profiling. I cancelled the appointment once I found out what "Partnership" was after I hung up and googled it. I have to say that it saddens me to write a poor review of this business. I have been going to Dr. Scolaro for prob about 20 yrs. For the past few years I've struggled to decide to keep going and now I've decided to move on. Her staff is friendly enough (when she isn't around they seem happier) but she has become (or maybe always was) very rude and unpleasant. If you are in the business of close, personal service - particularly diagnosing vision problems - you should treat each person as if they are royalty. I have been going to Dr. Scolaro's office for more years than I can say, I loved her front office staff and they remembered me every year and gave me a feeling of "family". Her long time staff have since retired and last year when I went I promised myself that I would not be returning this year due to her front office staff being so rude, disorganized and unfriendly but.......I have been with her for decades, so I hoped that it would be a different experience this year and sadly it was the same as last year!
