I mainly use the optical department to order glasses and I bring my prescription from another eye doctor. The one time I was seen by the optometrist in Costco my prescription was a little off and was corrected by another eye doctor. I will only get glasses from the optical department at Costco because the value is so good. I really like my eye doctor, but the frames are so incredibly expensive. I can get two or three pair pairs of glasses from Costco for the same price as the glasses through my optometrist. I really like the sale where you get $50 off additional pairs and I've always been pretty satisfied with the different selections of frames. They have luxury frames in the glass case and some funky or unusual colors and shapes that are really fun. There's always staff available and I usually get seen very quickly. They usually have the glasses ready for pick up within a week if not earlier. It's really smooth operations where you get a phone call or voicemail to let you know that they're ready for pick up. My benefits are expiring soon and I was in desperate need of a new eye exam and contacts. The administrator who answered the phone let me know that they were fully committed as far as appointments but that she could probably take me as a walk in after lunch. I showed up and after some very brief paperwork I was able to get in to see the Dr. right away. The exam was quick and painless; Dr. Melanie was so much fun, cracking little jokes here and there and completely putting me at ease. They even had my contacts in stock so I was able to leave with everything I needed. Costco Optical (not the optometrist) in Vacaville is deplorable! I purchased three pairs of glasses: two Mont Blanc glasses (1 reading and 1 everyday) and one Burberry glasses (sunglasses). The Burberry glasses are fine (except they do not make sunglasses with bifocals), but both Mont Blanc glasses broke--one within a month of purchase. Costco refused to fix or replace them, stating that due to the bargain pricing that they do not warranty them. Six hundred bucks down the drain! They don't even have replacement frames; it would appear that they sell discontinued items, i.e. junk. I will never purchase glasses from any Costco Optical department, and I would strongly caution anyone from purchasing glasses from them. The Optometrist was super kind and patient even with some less than savory customers demanding her time although she was very busy. She asked a lot of questions regarding my comfort which made it easier to give feedback on what type of lenses I need. The appointment took about 20-30 minutes and it felt like less. To make the appointment I called twice but kept getting voicemail so I left a message. I did eventually get a call later in the week to schedule an appointment. However, prior to the returned call I decided to just go in person and make my appointment which luckily she had a cancellation and I got to go same day. Most affordable eye exam I've ever had although they didn't accept my insurance so I had to pay out of pocket. read more

Watch out VSP members!!! Costco Optical Staff will tell you they are in network of VSP, but they are actually not. Good thing I know my VSP insurance coverage and benefits. Optical Staff will act like they are in network and will tell your coverage (not the true coverage), and if you don't know your coverage, you will end up paying more out of pocket expenses. I complained to the manager / supervisor about this deceitful act. This is a misrepresentation and they will be legally liable for this. A class action lawsuit is in consideration. The process of ordering the glasses was seamless, but I always knew something wasn't quite right. When I returned to my eye doctor, he confirmed my suspicions; the lenses were never made correctly and the center of the lens, where you would typically look straight ahead, had been incorrectly placed on the bottom of the lens made by Costco. My vision through my Costco lenses without a single change in prescription had been so incorrectly made that I was actually driving with vision below the legal limit the DMV allows. When I returned to Costco, they denied the issue at first and tried blaming it on my private doctor. The manager was condescending, unapproachable, and attempted to tell me that I wore my glasses incorrectly (Too low on my face) and then proceeded to push them higher on the bridge of my nose to the point that my eye lashes (without mascara) were brushing up against the lens with each blink! After some discussion w/ the manager, Paula, she assured me that if I were to bring in the most recent prescription, Costco would have the lenses remade FREE OF CHARGE. I would not have ended the conversation with anything less than that as a Costco standard is to guarantee customer satisfaction. When I returned w/ an updated prescription to complete the measurements for the new lenses, Paula then told me I would be charged for new lenses out of pocket. As I told her what we discussed the previous week, she denied it and told me I "misunderstood" her despite the fact that the other person I was shopping with heard the exact agreement I did. I'm extremely disappointed that these lenses were made incorrectly the first time and that Costco is not being amenable to the terms we had already agreed upon. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Costco for frames as they clearly do not value customer satisfaction or being accountable for their mistakes. I recently took a trip to the Vacaville Costco Optical Dept. to fix, what I thought, was an impossible mend. My Spectacles were completely in disarray. I was helped by a lady named "Paula". She was holding down the fort at a extremely busy time, coupled with fact, she was having respiratory problems. I told her it's ok I'll come back when things calm down. Paula said, nonsense, and began to search through a case of frames in order to repair my spectacles! To cut a long story short, Paula went above and beyond helping me, at the same time, multitasking, answering phones assisting others. She is truly an asset to that dept. and a gem! Thank you Paula. Every time I go into Costco optical every is very courteous and willing to help you if they are extremely busy they always try their best to let you know that they'll be with you as soon as I can. Every time I've gone and if there's been a long wait I just needed to have something adjusted on my glasses are usually leave them and come back later and they're always done to my satisfaction I give them an A+ because they're very attentive and very professional and what they do I would suggest that anybody willing to or wanting to buy glasses and have a Cosco membership to buy them from Costco. read more

The store took my order for sunglasses 12 days ago and said they'd call back when the glasses were in and that it should be only a matter of days. They haven't called back after 12 days. Today I called Optical and to see what the hold-up was was put on hold for 9 minutes without anyone coming on the line. I finally hung up. Something seems to be wrong with their customer service & follow-through--or else they are short-staffed. It's not the usual good experience at Costco. read more

Plus sides: I was able to be seen last minute due to a cancellation. The optical area was clean and orderly and I finished my appointment in a timely manner. Bad news: Shockingly unprofessional staff. No joke- the optometrist stopped in the middle of an eye exam so she could watch videos on the receptionist's phone. Mind you, this was in front of myself and other waiting customers. In addition, the optometrist and receptionist flat out laughed at me during the glaucoma test due to my involuntary flinching. I'm talking full on, bending over, grabbing each other's shoulders for support while laughing. They made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Neither one apologized and they continued to giggle throughout the rest of the procedure. I would not recommend the Costco optical department based on their lack of professionalism. read more
