Purchased new $270 lenses. When I initially came to pick them up the lenses were all scuffed and they grudgingly went and polished out all of the defects in the back. 3 mos later a lens popped our while hiking and went down a ravine. Because I couldn't bring lens in they said there was no longer a warranty. They wanted $150 to replace the single lens. Finally after calling the owner (again begrudgingly) the shop was willing to do it for the "great price of "only" $75. There are other great eyewear shops in Davis that stand behind their work. A friend raved about Cocoons fit-over sunglasses. I checked out their website and found the only retailer in Davis (other than Kaiser) was Optical Phases (listed as Eye Werks on Cocoon's website) Cocoons come in various sizes so I stopped by the store to see what size would fit over my prescription glasses. I noticed that the price at the store was exactly the same as ordering direct from Cocoons so I was happy I'd be able to support a local small business without paying more. Cocoons offered a couple of fit-overs in pretty colors that weren't in stock at Optical Phases but they were happy to add to their recent order. Victor, the owner, helped me make a decision between amethyst or turquoise and said they should be in by the next Wednesday. I got a call the next Tuesday that they were there. And here the story about how wonderful Optical Phases is gets even better. I had just received new glasses and the lenses weren't working for me, the PD was measured incorrectly, twice. Each re-do from my optometrist's office took five to six weeks wait for the lab to make them. I asked Victor if he could adjust the glasses so that I might avoid another mis-measurement and another month plus wait without my glasses. He said that the measurement was definitely wrong but was able to adjust the glasses so that they would work for me, though they ride a bit high. He then explained that he never charges for glasses adjustments, even if purchased elsewhere, nor for replacing screws. He does take insurance but is off-network for VSP. I will be calling VSP to see what the difference in cost might be and next year might go direct to him to have my prescription glasses made. And that brings me to the final amazing aspect of this business. They grind their own lenses and their turn-around time is about five days. Compare that to the five to six weeks wait currently with the VSP lab. read more

I stopped in because this is the closest optometrist near my job an once again my glasses were extremely wonky from being stepped on in the middle of the night. Walked in and the place was empty with two people at the front counter. The young lady working was friendly and asked what I needed help with and I told her I needed my glasses adjusted. She said it would be a few minutes. I browsed the store trying on frames and I swear they had some of the cutest frames ever! Fucking scam! Don't fucking come to this store!! The boss seemed nice and helpful and everything but actually he's the biggest scam. I can't believe this old man, who seems reliable and nice,rigged me in the most sneaky way. I feel obligated to write this review to prevent more ppl from getting scammed by this kind of unethical business owner. I broke my glass frame so I decided to replace my frame here. My insurance covered my glass frame up to 120 dollars. However, this sneaky old guy, the store owner told me to use my lens plan as well to add up to a 180 dollar frame balance so I can have a more expensive frame. I trusted him and got the more expensive frame. But then he asked me to pay a $25 copay. I was a lil confused but still accepted afterward. With the weird feelings, I checked my insurance plan. WOW, this guy is such a Snake!!!!! I'm a broke college student and he still Riggs me like this!!! I actually do not need to pay anything if I just stay within my plan of $120 plus I still have my lens plan. But now I lost the coverage for my lens on my insurance next year plus I have to pay $25 more?????? WTF?? So he planed out all scam to trap me to pay more plus wasting my insurance benefit while claiming he's helping me?!? This is so disgusting and I would say this kind of person makes the world a worse place bc they are greedy and use ppl's kindness and trust. Plz don't come to this store. Nice little store in Davis to fulfill all your eye needs. I was in need for a new pair of sunglasses so this was the first place that showed up on yelp. They have a good selection, from Raybans, Oakleys, etc. The store is set up in a way where you can find what you need really easy. I was able to find what I wanted in less than 10 minutes. The only thing is, unlike bigger stores, the ones you see on display are the ones you'll get. It's not a bad thing at all, all the glasses are in perfect condition, and the man was nice enough to clean everything before I walked out. I left a happy customer for sure! read more

With same insurance coverage, their price is more reasonable than the price of the optometry in UC Davis wellness center. But when it happened to me, I was blessed to find Optical Phases and its helpful salesperson - Jorri on a Saturday at noon. She helped this fashion challenged 52 year-old select appropriate frames for a set of distance and reading glasses. An hour later after a relaxing Indian Meal across the street, I was on my way. And the price was very fair. So all around I have to say someone that reads this review would be making a huge mistake going to one of the "glasses while-you-wait" national chains. their frames are more fashionable here than at those stores or Costco, you get them faster, and it is cheaper. Needed to get adjustments made to my sunglasses which had bee constantly sliding down my nose. The guy there was really helpful and patient despite me coming back three different times in an hour to have little tweaks made. Adjustments were free and when I offered to tip he declined it. Even after graduating, I continue to come here, because of quality service, knowledge about the product, and because they're the most INEXPENSIVE place around! I like to buy frames, and have lenses put into them - after insurance was applied, my out of pocket expenses were only $15. (hopefully you have as good of an insurance plan as I do). Came in for a lens replacement and I was not disappointed with their service. I got two lenses replaced for two sunglasses and also replaced their nose pieces. It was holding me back. When your glasses constantly slip off every few seconds, it is frustrating to navigate through daily life without needing to adjust your frames. As you cross the street with your head positioned in an upright manner for proper posture, but your eyes peering slightly down at a lower angle because your glasses have loosened... as you refrain from moving your head too much so your glasses can stay intact... these are only some of the issues with loose frames. I came in looking for some eyewear retainers to keep my glasses from slipping off my face, and left elated and rejuvenated after they adjusted my frames for free. Holy cow! My glasses were smashed in the bed (don't ask) and afterward completely wobbly and unwearable. I took my glasses to this place and the handsome man who fixed my glasses made them as good as new. Then, I accidentally slightly bent the arm, and I returned to the same place for an adjustment. I found a newb who told me her boss was the only person who could fix them, three days later. That's helpful. She tried a temporary fix, but I was told by the optician in AZ that my glasses' screw had been completely destroyed, and my only choices were to go to a repair shop or just get a new pair. I'm not sure whether to rate it a 2 or 3 because the first visit with the [assumed] owner was so fantastic, but the second? Not so much. read more
