This was pretty good. It's a little far from downtown Norman. Seemed like an odd location. I don't really know Norman OK, so maybe it's a good location. Dimly lit inside. Kind of a brick interior. Server was very pleasant. Food was very good. We split an order of lasagna. Well baked. Good flavor. I was impressed. Well proportioned with meat sauce and cheese. June 23, 2023 Let's start with the service. Ummmm. Not good. We read both sides of the menu, decided what to eat and still no waiter came to our table. As we were getting up to leave a waitress asked if we were leaving and we said yes. Didn't ask us what was wrong or why we decided to leave. We were excited to try a new local Italian place. We walked in and it smelled so good. Got seated right away and then let down very quickly. As we were leaving we saw some friends of ours that asked if it was good. When we said no idea we never got a waiter they were shocked. I told them I hope you have a better experience than we did. Will we go back? ‍IDK. My husband and I had a very long day and were so hungry. Luckily, we went to Gaberinos and got great service and amazing food. The place was nicely decorated. Nothing over the top. read more

This was our first time to try Doni and we loved it! The atmosphere is elegant, but also very cozy. The menu is extensive and we all loved our entrées. They have wonderful service. The server let us sample a wine before ordering a glass as we were selecting one to pair with our food. The prices are very reasonable, especially since delicious bread and a dinner salad are complimentary with each entrée. I've been craving a new Italian place in Norman, and I am so glad that Dioni's moved in! For our first visit the wait staff were super friendly and helpful, and we never had an empty glass or long wait for our food - our server was on it! The restaurant is a bit dimly lit (if you have bad eyes like me make sure you have your cell phone flashlight if you go for dinner) but it adds to the overall calmer and relaxed atmosphere. There's lots of room inside so you don't feel like you're sitting right on top of another party! The food is delicious - I've had the carbonara and their tortellini in vodka sauce! Both dishes were super flavorful and the noodles were perfectly cooked. It's our new favorite pasta spot in Norman! read more

Absolutely amazing! Doni's has the classic Italian experience. Our service was excellent and efficient. We ordered the lasagna and the chicken Parmesan which didn't disappoint! The pastas also came with a salad. My mom and I overheard what we assumed to be the owner chatting with some other diners and he sounded so kind and genuine. It appeared to be a family owned establishment. I noticed that an employee was enjoying a shift meal, and as a former server I have so much respect for restaurants that do that. When we come back, which we will, I would love to chat with him and hear his story. read more

Paper napkins, calamar was rubber and straight out of the freezer, no parmesean on my Caesar salad, no fresh-cracked pepper. The menu said the dressing was made in house, but it sure didn't taste like it. They do have $10 martinis that were pretty decent. I'd go back for a few martinis and eat elsewhere. read more

6-24-2023 So this is our second review. The first one was a 1 star review. Today I am leaving a 4 star review. We got seated right away. Our waiter, Hamad, said he would be right with us. Took him a while to come back, but we waited since he did acknowledge us. We ordered waters and a beverage. The first beverage was so good. Went to order another one and he didn't know what it was so we just ordered a beer. We got an appetizer of stuffed mushroom. They were pipping hot. I ordered the Sacilliano chicken and my wife ordered the chicken parm. Mine was really good. My wife likes her Italian more flavorful so she added pepper, salt and a lot of pepper flakes. Both pipping hot. The rolls were really good. The place is nicely decorated. Too bad the A/C was out or turned up too high. It was miserable hot in there. Will we go back? Yes. As long as the A/C works. We will be calling ahead to ask. We were sitting there sweating. Made the ambiance miserable. read more

I had high hopes for Doni as I've been looking for good Italian in the Norman area but sadly they missed the mark. Starting off, salads were fine but overdressed. The bread was fresh and tasty. Where it really went wrong was with the entrees. My girlfriend had the manicotti which was good. I had the chicken parm which was just rubber. After we left I looked for reviews to see if I was the only one who had this experience. I found multiple reviews that mentioned the meat quality, particularly rubbery chicken, and they certainly weren't wrong. There is clearly an issue that management needs to address. The staff was friendly and our server Han was a nice guy but we definitely will not be coming back. read more

We tried this place after hearing good things and weren't disappointed! Our server recommended the stuffed mushrooms and suggested we try dipping our bread in the sauce. It was phenomenal! (Maybe our favorite part of a delicious meal.) The atmosphere was nice/casual and the prices were pretty reasonable given the portions are large enough to share, if you're inclined. This restaurant gets an overall three star review because the service was wonderful and the bread was great. However, our meals for four of us, not only lacked flavor, as the meals were bland, the chicken in the Chicken and Shrimp Tetrazini for $19.95 was dry and hard to cut and the dish contained three shrimp and a nondescript sauce. The eggplant in Eggplant Parmigiana was mushy but should be solid if cooked correctly, because you dip the eggplant in egg and breading and fry it maintaining a solid consistency. In addition, the sauce was very acidic. Better soup can be found in a can at the grocery store. Overall, it was a major disappointment. Gaberrinos is still the best Italian food in Norman. read more

Tried out a new place on the advice of our friends who love Doni's and we were not disappointed! Service was really fast and prompt, the food was DELICIOUS. I had the tortellini with chicken and my wife had the shrimp ravioli. So good. Also the restaurant itself was really nice for a fancy dinner setting if you're celebrating something. 10/10 will definitely be back. I told my wife this jumped up to one of my favorite Italian restaurants in OKC. Much better than Othellos or Benvenuttis. And even better than Victorias. We heard that this owner had a successful restaurant in one of the outlying towns nearby, and people were looking forward to their establishment here. We went while there was a home football game, so we took a chance it would be crowded. It was less than half capacity with quite a few open tables. The hostess wanted to put us at the first table by the entrance, which we requested be changed, and we found a better location. The interior was not much different than the previous establishment, with the exception being, it was much colder and nothing to detract from the all the hard surfaces and feel of a fast food place. The menus are laminated plastic and the interior not your fine dining if that is your expectations. I ordered a Caesar salad and the chicken with capers and artichokes over pasta. My husband had the seafood over pasta and their house salad. They state it's all house-made but the dressing for the Caesar salad was like a sweetened ranch dressing, ( no garlic, anchovies or lemon ) and it was iceberg lettuce. Disappointing. The house salad had dressing on the side and was basically what you'd get at a midrange diner. We each ordered wine by the glass. It was a boxed wine and certainly overpriced by what we've had elsewhere . When our entree' arrived, it was served in a shallow bowl. The chicken in mine was dry and the pastas was soaked and overcooked. In spite of a generous portion of artichokes and capers it lacked any flavor. My husband said his dish had pasta overcooked too but he liked the sauce and his meal was good. Between the lack of any ambiance and the quality we felt even Olive Garden does a better job overall. There are some very nice Italian places in Norman, where food is made properly and if the ambiance isn't all that, you get a great meal. There are places in OKC that give you the best of both, like PapaDios on May Ave. We had hoped for another discovery of a great new place but this wasn't for us. read more

The Chefs Specialty with chicken and shrimp is the best!! Love the stuffed muchrooms!! We've tried about 6 different entrees and have yet to be disappointed. Did enjoy blue cheese dressing. Then, entrées came out. I had a weird feeling I would have preferred what another at the table got, and that turned out to be the consensus at the table. My sauce was very thin and chicken seemed to be very processed and was somehow rubbery but also tender? Im not sure how that works... Prices were a bit high, which I chalked up to post-COVID, but... quality didn't justify prices, IMO. The service was also slower than expected for the workload, albeit very polite. Ate there for the first time on 7/8. Greeted and seated promptly. We liked the remodeling that had taken place since the restaurant was acquired from the previous owner. The service was great, menu selection was great. Our group all had different menu items and everyone thought the food was great. Salads were served very cold, bowls were cold too.
