Tucked in a little row of shops off 36th NW is a hidden Italian Gem! I had an incredible lunch togo from Doni's that I just didn't expect. I called my order in and the server was so accommodating and made sure my requests were fulfilled. I stepped in to find a dark, spacious dining room with Italian music gently filling the air. The server walked up and asked if I was here to pick up the order for Cass. Nice touch! Not 2 minutes later he returned with my bag complete with everything I ordered and utensils! I had the shrimp with artichoke and red bell peppers in a garlic wine sauce and it was one of my favorite versions of this dish. This is the first restaurant I have been to in a long time that you could have a reasonable conversation at the table. The noise level at so many restaurants is off the charts! So I give it a 5 for that! The food was good. 3 of our party of 4 were pleased. The one who wasn't impressed has a lot of GI issues and has problems with many foods. I would go back. This place is fantastic! I'm not sure why it took us so long to try it???? I had the lunch Italian Sampler, eggplant-lasagna-manicotti and the pic is leftover lasagna. I also added a salad with house dressing, a must in my opinion. They give you a garlic roll, it was delicious.The atmosphere is nice, clean restaurant and clean restrooms. The chicken in the chicken capellini dish was sliced frozen chicken like you would buy in a bag at walmart already cooked, just gross. Was very disappointed not only in the chicken but the owners response. Our waitress was good and I asked her if this was frozen chicken. She did not know as she is new. I asked her to please ask. She came back and said yes it was. I had laid my card out and she took it and ran it without offering to compensate, though knowing I was not pleased. I spoke with the owner and he lied. He said it was fresh chicken and was grilled. No sir, this is frozen sliced chicken already prepared with no grill marks. He did not apologize or offer any solution. $18 for nasty chicken! My daughter and I also got the tomato basil soup. It was grainy, not typical smooth soup. After reading reviews I now know they puréed broccoli in the soup. Just no!! My daughter did not eat hers. I ate a little because I was hungry. I did not bring up the soup. What I gather from the reviews is the food is bland, the chicken has been an issue for two years and nothing is actually homemade. My pasta and vegetables were pretty good but bland. My husbands marinara was like jarred store bought and his salad was a joke. We were seated very quickly because we arrived shortly after opening time, but the place filled up quickly. The atmosphere was very nice and the service provided was excellent, but the presentation, seasoning, and taste of our meals easily outshined those things. This is the first restaurant we've been to in a while that we were able to have a normal conversation on our table. Restaurant noise is off the charts in most places. I give it five stars alone for the atmosphere. In our party of four, 3 of us, really enjoyed our food. The fourth person thought it was just, meh, but that person doesn't eat very much and has a lot of G.I. issues and has trouble eating a lot of stuff. Our server was friendly and efficient. We really enjoyed Doni's for our first visit. The restaurant is very pretty and clean! Has more of a romantic/date night setting. We went in for lunch with our two kids and we all enjoyed our food! It was all very cheesy and delicious. Great lunch specials and of course, wonderful wine. My biggest con is they only give the first 4 garlic rolls for free and then charge I believe .75 per roll afterwards. They also don't give oil/balsamic dipping, I believe it was $5 extra. Best Italian food I've probably ever eaten. The stuffed mushrooms were delicious and came in an excellent sauce. Save the sauce to dip your bread in. The house dressing for the salad was so tangy and good! BUT... THE BEST part was the entree. Chicken Aristocrat had so much flavor. A similar sauce to the mushrooms, but more bold. The chicken was SOO TENDER and packed full of flavor. I've never had a better seasoned chicken breast... so much flavor. My husband got chicken Alfredo and the same for him, the chicken was so tender it was like a Kobe Steak. I don't know how they did it. Check this place out!!! Some of the other reviews were complaining about the paper napkins and the decor... who cares!! Go for the food, trust me! Get the chicken aristocratic. read more

First off the place is beautiful and our server Jade was amazing. Our only complaint is the Alfredo Sauce we were up charge $2 which is no big deal but it's super watery. They claim it's gluten free but you can add heavy cream vs wheat and it would still be gluten free. Just saying read more

I don't like leaving one star reviews but this place was not good at all. I don't judge restaurants by how they look or what the general aesthetic is - but by the quality of food and the flavor. Our server was great and really attentive but the food was lacking in every aspect: zero flavor and terrible quality. We gave this place a chance based on the ratings but I should have known better. 99% of the food served was frozen or canned with no added spices or herbs. One of us ordered tomato basil soup which for some reason had badly pureed broccoli in it. No basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, parsley, marjoram, garlic, onion, etc. in any of our dishes. Whoever is running the kitchen needs to do some quality control and get this place on track. Needless to say we won't return. read more

We visited Doni for the first time on a Friday evening and were seated very quickly. The seating area is a pretty open space, which resembled more of a family-friendly ambiance rather than high end, private seating. The restaurant is dimly lit and has a large bar as well. Our waiter greeted us quickly and got our drinks and told us about the specials of the evening. We ordered fried calamari as a starter, which was good, and we each had a Caesar salad as our side, which we didn't really care for. We felt the dressing wasn't representative of traditional Caesar dressing and instead it was a sweet, creamy dressing. It wasn't bad! Just not what we expected. We also had some Italian dinner rolls to start, and these were excellent!! Definitely recommend. We ordered the Roma Special and the shrimp and clams. The Roma special was fragrant with lots of flavor, and it was delicious! The shrimp and clams was a linguini dish with a garlic wine sauce topped with a bunch of baby clams not in the shells and some shrimp as well. This dish was fantastic in giving the fresh seafood aromas I enjoy in Italian cuisine. We did both agree that the pasta in our dishes was over cooked, but that didn't ruin the meal. We were too stuffed by our meals to even consider desert. Our service overall was spectacular as well- our waiter was nice, and the food came out so quick, maybe almost too quick because our main dishes were out shortly after we just received our appetizer, but we were still impressed by the speedy service! read more

Two of us had the pasta sampler (lasagna, eggplant parmisan, manictotti), one had the baked ziti, and one had a mountain of spaghetti and meatballs. Pretty sure my manicotti , which should be stuffed with ricotta, was both stuffed with mozzarella and topped with mozzarella. It tasted good but extremely stringy and It was too sickeningly rich to each, basically just a plate of melted mozzarella. I took it home to top a pizza with it later. This place took me by surprise. I'm not a huge fan of Italian food but my brother and I get together once a week and he's been dying to try it for a while. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior is pretty nice while still remaining casual. The only thing I didn't love was there were three huge TV's; two in the dining room and one at the bar. Outside of sports bars, I think televisions cheapen a dining experience. The food was very good. We ordered a shrimp appetizer which was cooked in garlic and white wine and was lovely. We both ordered an entree, I got the lasagna which was quite heavy and I probably ate an 1/8th of it before getting the rest boxed to go. It came with a salad and the Caesar is an actual Caesar with anchovies and egg in the dressing made in house. If I were ever to go back, I'd probably sit at the bar and get the Caesar and add a protein to it. Their fresh bread was also very good. If you like Italian beers, they have bottles of Peroni and everything else is pretty much standard. The main reason I write this review is because we saw a waiter hold three wine glasses full of wine by his fingers which really grossed me out.
