Very little pita in an Iskander order. Other restaurants usually include extra bread. Very expensive for portion.

Dagon - A Must on the Upper West Side…read more The food at Dagon is absolutely incredible. Every dish arrives beautifully presented, and the flavor never misses -- you can feel the love and detail in every bite. Their flatbreads deserve their own award... hands down the best in the entire city. I find myself coming back again and again because the experience is consistently top-tier: great energy, amazing service, and food that always hits. If you're anywhere near the Upper West Side, do yourself a favor and check out Dagon on 90th & Broadway. Highly, highly recommend.

So when my friends suggested we go there after work I was beyond thrilled. Nestled on the corner of Broadway and W 91st on the Upper West Side the restaurant's color scheme is vibrant, energetic and inviting The use of turquoise reminded me of the cool waters of the Mediterranean. Which fits Dagon perfectly as it serves exquisite dishes from across the region. Mejda, our waitress was one of the best servers I have ever had. She was so attentive to every person and suggested foods to compliment everyone's palate. For those that wanted light items she recommended the Mezze. Mezze is a style of dining where one eats small plates similar to tapas. At Dagon, we chose the Matbucha, a roasted tomato, sweet pepper dip, and the Baba Ganouj, a fire-roasted eggplant with preserved lemon. For a small plate we had the Shishbarak, Lebanese mushroom filled dumplings with warm yogurt, pine nuts and spicy herb since it was highly recommended. For my entree I chose the Chicken Sofrito, a slow-braised chicken with olives and preserved lemon. The meat was tender, flavorful and eating it felt so divine and guilt free! Mejda regularly checked in on us. Her mindfulness and thoughtful nature made us feel extra special and elevated our dining experience. We learned she is from the region and dishes from her country are on the menu at Dagon. Overall the food, service, and ambiance was AMAZING!!! Everyone truly enjoyed themselves. It's no surprise the restaurant is so beloved in the city. We cannot wait to return to Dagon!!!

Service was great, friendly and accommodating, even though we had a late reservation close to kitchen closing, which we really appreciated. The food was just as impressive, especially in both flavor and portion size. The baba ghanoush was delicious and tasted just like the ones I grew up eating. The mixed grill was a standout in terms of value, with tender, well-seasoned meats and a generous portion. The chicken tagine was equally satisfying, with moist chicken and vegetables that complemented everything nicely. We finished with the warm date tart, which was definitely on the sweeter side but perfect if you enjoy desserts like that. Overall, it's a great spot for flavorful food, large portions, and an amazing atmosphere.

We were in and out in 45 minutes, and the food... well... let's just say it peaked during visit #1. Here's the rundown of what went from "yum" to "meh": - Shrimp with Garlic - No. Just no. It had a funky taste, and shrimp should never be described as "funky" unless they're dancing. - Chicken Tagine - Tasty, yes, but we got two pieces of chicken. Two. The last time , hubby and I got at least four. What happened? Budget cuts? Chicken shortage? - Dates - These were actually delicious. - Cucumber Drink - Last time it was refreshing. This time it was... chewy? I don't know, but beverages shouldn't require chewing. And with that, I think we're done here...
