I'm glad a friend organized a dinner here. I have never heard of Donatos Pizza I was told they are a chain based from the west. Donatos has counter service you can dine in. They offer to go orders and delivery as well. They have a great menu with a great selection of pizzas. I ordered a margarita personal pizza with bruschetta instead of tomatoes. This was so good! Thin crust cooked perfectly, lots of cheese. The bruschetta was good as well. Everyone enjoyed their pizza. The owner was very pleasant, friendly he shared his story of how and why he made the decision to open a location in VA Beach. This location was very nice plenty of parking. I love Donato's!!!!! This Columbus, Ohio based pizza company has been my favorite for decades. When in Ohio it seems like there is a Donato's on every corner and that's great. The last time I lived there for 29 years and I always lived within delivery distance of a Donato's store. When I moved here it was hard to wrap my mind around there only being two Donato's locations in all of Hampton Roads. The first year I lived in northern Newport News while I was house hunting. The Donato's there delivered to me regularly and, since I was accustomed to that, I didn't realize when I found a condo in North West Portsmouth, that there would no longer be Donato's pizza delivery in my life. I picked up 2 pizzas yesterday, the works and founder's favorite. The pizza was tasty and looked good, but my husband and I were in the bathroom on the toilet with a cramping upset stomach shortly after eating the pizza. Addicted to their pizza. No shame. Finally found a spot in the area to satisfy our thin crust craving and this place does not disappoint. We've only come during late night dinner so it's never packed but we usually observe a lot of take outs and pick-ups from Door Dash and the like. I'd like to try the many other items on their menu but I dunno, their pizza always screams to me. I know they offer regular crust but by default they do thin crust and cut into squares, which I love love love. I can usually share a large but I definitely can kill a medium all by myself. He told us how they are making their pizzas, what's the difference, what kind of pizzas we usually like. Opted for the individual size combo. Thin crust topped with sufficient portions of sausage. pepperoni, veggies. The tomato sauce was sweet. What was lacking was seasonings. The pizza was, how do I put it, mediocre the best thing about it was the cheese, other than that it was something you can purchase at a grocery store and get better quality. Tonight was the second night that I had to deal with issues at this Donatos location. The first instance was about 2 months ago when a woman on the phone was giving constant attitude to the fact that my family and I lived on base. I then went to the restaurant to pick up my order and she told me that I gave her the wrong order (which would've been impossible because my husband is allergic to pepperoni). She proceeded to blow her breath and give me even more attitude. Tonight, Donatos told me, even though we haven't moved, their location hasn't moved and we have ordered from them over a dozen times, that we were out of their delivery radius and they could not deliver to us, especially because it was a busy night. They wouldn't even deliver to the exchange (sometimes drivers aren't able to get on base). We are currently quarantined an unable to leave our home, so this was something we needed tonight. My family has loved Donatos for a long time, but I will no longer be giving our service to this location. read more

Got the Chicken Spinach Mozzarella pizza and it was great, I would definitely order it again. My pizza was ready when I arrived so no wait was a huge plus. Clean place, friendly staff will eat there again. Unrelated to the food: I ordered take-out through the Yelp mobile app and fulfilled by GrubHub which was my only mistake. Donatos staff said it happens all the time so if you want to pick-up your order versus it being delivered by GrubHub don't do it through the Yelp app as Donatos had to cancel my GrubHub order. Bad customer service can make a good pizza taste like saw dust. On two occasions I have ordered from Donatos a decent length before closing time, and both times I receive a call telling me that they won't be making my pizza because it's too close to closing time. Pardon me? If you have hours posted and your online system allows me to place my order, why wouldn't you honor that? Seems downright lazy to me. And this is coming from someone who worked in pizza places as an insider and a delivery driver. To make it worse, the management (Justin) was extremely rude to me when I expressed my disappointment, no apology or concession given for their poor system ...just excuses and attitude.
