What a neat find. This place is sooo under-rated. Between the great food price (especially lunch specials) and the value (quantity and quality) it's just awesome. It's nestled in a shopping center in the busy area of the city but I assure you, it's worth the visit. Special thanks to Yelp for being that 'secret squirrel' finder for places to visit both around the country and locally. Decent, quick and reasonably priced pizza. This place can definitely be added to the repertoire for takeout nights. We ordered a few apps, a few pizzas and a salad for takeout, which was quoted about half an hour. We arrived right on time and the food was ready to go. Customer service was quick and efficient - not overly friendly, but definitely welcoming enough. They seemed to be pretty busy, but it wasn't chaotic. Parking lot however, was totally chaotic. There are lots of other businesses in the strip mall and it seemed to be rush hour for all of them. Appetizers: we got the toasted ravioli and the fried mushrooms. We enjoyed both, but they definitely weren't ideal as takeout. I guess that's just the price you pay with fried food, but they were both a little soggy when we made it home. The chefs salad was good, lots of toppings and everything seemed really fresh. Would order this again. Pizzas: we weren't blown away. All three of the pizzas needed some additional crisp.. in the future, I think we would request well done. Toppings weren't super plentiful. Overall, flavor was decent and I liked the sauce. Was near va beach area and needed a pizza place for his birthday. Saw the reviews and though I'd give it a try. We ordered a 14" cheese and XL deluxe. Kids loved the cheese but the deluxe was delicious. Toppings were delicious and sauce was excellent. I wish the onions were grilled but my fiancé likes the fresh cut onions. Place was cute, little hole-in-the-wall type vibe from the outside. Ordered for a pickup for two xl pizzas, one cheese and one pepperoni. Got it, and it was hot all the way home, which is a good 15 minutes. The flavor was really nice, better than an average slice I think. And the crust held up well, no droopiness, sogginess, or too much grease. It was cooked nicely and had a little chew. It could've been cooked just a little more to get more of a crisp, but that's my bad, I should've asked for well-done or something. Definitely will be back if I'm in the area again! read more

We got their lunch special, which came with a drink; I had the Vegetarian (bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, black olives, and tomatoes), while the hubs had the Cheese - the crust was thin, crisp, and yummy, and the toppings and the cheese were super plentiful! These slices came out piping hot, and I am just drooling, thinking about their deliciousness! Ambiance: Ray's has the feel of a mom and pop pizza joint. The ambiance was a bit cold and boring though. The coolest part of the decor are the novelty New York City License Plates sitting above the service counter. They could really pep the joint up with some New York Sports Jumbo Fat Head Wall Art and even New York City wallpaper would be really cool. Anyway the ambience was 1.75 Stars Service: Is not on the high priority list. Cordial enough, but not warm or welcoming. More of the "what can I get ya" vibe. Thats cool In New York but this is VA. No one followed up to see if I liked the food or see if I wanted a refill. Had to go up with my cup and lid to ask for the refill. Brought my food to the table but no smile or happy greeting. No one came to clear my plate after I was done. So Service was the bare minimum. It gets 1Star Food: The Pizza ordered Slice was traditional New York Style. Good crispy undercarriage and back crust was to crunchy due to the need reheat. I'm ok with that as all New York lunch slices are like that. I'm sure the fresh cooked full pies have amazing crusts. The meat toppings were the usual vendor supplied Roma Branded: Pepperoni, Sausage, Ground Beef, the Mushrooms appeared to be fresh sliced. The sauce basic red pizza sauce may or may not be from a can and dressed up. Cheese was melting and had great pull. But the slices needed a little more heating. I ate both slices though. We dropped by Rays Ny Pizza for a quick dinner. Its located off Newtown Rd in a strip mall close to the Blvd. Our order was to go.I will admit i had to call a few times to get through. So they may get alot of phone orders. The food was ready when we got there... 20 minutes or less. Great!! We ordered cheese steak subs with fries and it comes with a free soda. It was a reasonable price. I requested they add mozzarella cheese and put the lettuce and tomatoes on the side so my sandwich wouldn't get soggy. The lady on the phone was nice and she said my request would be fine. Customer service was cool with me. The sub was pretty good. It was flavorful and filling.... I must admit it was nap time right after i ate it... Lol. So thats a plus!! I will be returning to try the pizza at some point or maybe another sub. Some of the best pizza I've ever had in Virginia. Used to get the lunch special once a week, but no longer work in the area so I get a whole pizza. So delicious and the leftovers are just as good! They offer a dining/waiting area but you won't get a waiter or waitress. I usually do to-go and would recommend ordering ahead because they get pretty busy and can have a long wait time. This place never disappoints! Today I decided to try new items. I ordered shrimp Alfredo and a sausage/pepperoni calzone. The pasta dinner comes with garlic bread and a side salad that had mushrooms red onion tomato bell pepper and mozzarella cheese. Pasta has plenty of sauce and was enough to feed at least 2-3 people. Ray's is our go to local pizza delivery. It started out as not having a lot of options and thinking Ray's was pretty good. I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but we basically have a full blown addiction now and look forward to the weekend nights with no plans so we can order Ray's (affectionately always referred to as "Ray's Famous New York Pizza in our house). It's fairly standard of what you would expect out of New York pizza, albeit maybe with a little more cheese... and I think that's what makes it so good. We've also discovered that it is somehow even better when reheated the next day in the oven or toaster oven. Breakfast pizza IS a thing around here. We have tried a few of the sides, and while they've all been pretty good, the cheesy garlic bread is by far our fave. So. Much. Garlic. Ray's is also perfect if you're trying to feed a large group. Overall pizzas are pretty inexpensive for a local shop, and they have a 24" Giant option. I know this because my husband once accidentally ordered this, resulting in pizza for most meals for the week. It wasn't the worst thing. I swear no one is paying us to write this review. Shout out to good pizza. My Wife lived in NYC for ten years. I've been there many times. If this place was up there, would I still go? Yes, I would. The pizza is your typical thin crust New York style pizza. Full of flavor, lots of taste in the dough, and what I like in particular is the dough is just perfectly crisp but not burnt, if that makes sense. The pizza slices are large so that is important when you are doing the trademark one handed pizza fold to take that first bite. Since this is the time of Covid, they have great safety protocols, and you can only order to take out which is fine by me. The service is excellent. Picked up Dinner here a few days ago, and the Take-Out was fine. My Wife and I enjoyed our Meals very much. The only reason for the 3 Stars is because 1 or 2 Workers behind the Counter were not wearing Facial Masks at all. I am now kind of hesitant to order more Food from here now with COVID-19 still around if they are not protecting not only themselves, but their Customers as well. Some friends and I ordered from Ray's while having a get together pre-COVID 19 and it's just taken me a while to catch up on my reviews. I was skeptical when my friend said it was "real" NY style pizza because that seems to be a schtick around here that never quite pans out to be true. We placed our order and then drove over to pick it up. It's located in a strip mall and the interior is fairly unassuming. Looks like it hasn't been updated in years. The staff was friendly though, and you could see them making your pizza from scratch. The pizza ended up being HUGE, so in that sense, yes on the NY style. In terms of crust, sauce, and overall taste, it's definitely one of the better ones I've had on the peninsula, but I still wouldn't call it *true* NY style. It was tasty though so I can't complain. There were several specials & we chose the $10.99 two topping just to try. We didn't want to go overboard in case we didn't like it. We sat in front of the kitchen window and loved how we could watch the makings of our pie! The waitress was attentive, accommodating, and brought us plates, cheese, drinks, etc. After talking and observing the establishment, our pizza arrived HOT out of the oven. We were so excited!! A hot meal I actually didn't cook! Our first bite was love. Crisp on the bottom, cheesy, flavorful crust, and just delicious all the way thorough. A lot more textures and depth than other local NY Style pizza establishments. Definitely fresh vegetables or shall I say, fungi!? Oh, can't forget ricotta! Gotta have that premium topping!! This place was the closest to our hotel, we came around 9pm and ordered a large pepperoni pizza with some wings for $16.99. Pizza came out nice and hot where the cheese was all gooey and the crust was crunchy and chewy. Ok ya'll, this play is EXACTLY what iv been looking for to replicate the NY pizza taste. Right when you walk in they have the vintage looking menu, to the pizza in the silver slabs on display. Its just the simplest of decor. The pizza though, the thin, greasy, floppy.....ness. That is what I have been missing. Everything was great and they also sell by the slices(decent price). So my family and I saw this on yelp and decided to give it a try. Looked fairly close so not too far out of our area. Let me just say, after tonight, I won't ever deal with this place again. I'm privy to mistakes, but you messed up not one, but BOTH of my pizzas. Not to mention the gentleman who took my call not only confirmed my order and what it was, but even after admitting it was their fault when I told him what I got from them there was no attempt to resolve or see what they could do. you know what a got, sly snickering and big idk what to do from here. Like seriously?! If you go to a food place and they give you the wrong food you fix it, and see if 1. The person can come pick it up, or 2. Deliver it yourselves which as I understood I was outside of their radius. But guess what, another idk and call grub hub frim the guy on the line and the only sorry i got was as he snickered again before we terminated the call. All in all pizza was mediocre, cold, and wrong. Ill recommend Sals to my friends and coworkers from now on. For a regular guy with a regular wallet who's; had NY style in every new England state, Chicago deep dish in IL, sampled Boston Bar pie in every bar in MA and been fortunate enough to have Mediterranean style pie in Greece and Italy; Ray's is the only place I will buy a pizza from in Virginia Beach.
