    Kake broth udon

Ambiance was great on a rainy day. Fast service and food came out very quickly. Broth and noodles were both great and not too expensive

Really easy to miss this udon spot but I love the aesthetic and vibe. Very similar aesthetic to an udon shop you'd see in Tokyo. There are 13 seats inside and some outdoor seating. All of the ordering is done through the QR code and it's pretty fast to get all the food. I ordered the niku udon and a Mexican coke. The noodles really tasted homemade and super chewy. Loved my dish and can't wait to go back. Reasonable prices and really efficient service.

Amazing place! I came here on a Monday evening for dinner. They only take walk-ins. No reservations or take-out/delivery. Service is self service QR code where you can order on your phone. They'll bring you your order when it's ready. I highly recommend the cold udon! Very chewy and delicious. Very cool ambiance too. Looking forward to coming back.

Bona fide Japanese food bar. Delicious, cheap, fast service. We were immediately sat at their craftily assembled expansive outdoor space, which was already busy for an early Monday dinner. We were able to access the menu and order with a QR code, where they have an extensive Udon selection. AMAZING that their udon broths are all fish broths unless otherwise labeled (just one is beef and one pork). Service was expeditious and friendly. Here was our order: - Udon wakame udon (seaweed udon, hot, subtle but delicious umami) and the Ume oroshi bukkake udon (has wasabi, very tasty flavor profile, cold) - Takowasa (wasabi octopus, favorite item -- delicious) - inari sushi (rice stuffed in deep-fried, softened tofu packets) - Mentai Gohan (cod roe on steamed rice -- very good) Looking forward to frequenting this neighborhood spot!

The food was so good, we went twice in a row! First, for dinner service, it gets pretty packed, so you do have to wait in line outside. Lunch service was much easier and faster. Once you're let in, you order by the QR code which speeds up the process bc you pay when you order. All you have to do once you order is eat and leave. Now, the food! So, good, we initially went in and tried the beef on noodles both dry and soup. The noodles are so bouncy and chewy and fresh. The seasoning/ umami is JUST right. Second time we tried 2 different dishes, unagi and the Mentai shirasu oroshi udon. Both were so great again, with perfect balance of umami and added toppings.

Beef udon without soup with ikura rice bowl

After escaping Bed-Stuy, we wandered into Crown Heights for an early weekday dinner and spotted a new udon restaurant that immediately caught our eye. We didn't expect much, but ended up blown away. Food: 5/5 We initially planned on something simple--just an udon set--but couldn't help ourselves and added an eel appetizer and take wasabi to start. The udon? Hands down some of the best we've ever had. The noodles were perfectly chewy yet tender--like fresh pasta--and the flavor of the broth was rich without being overpowering. I got a set with beef udon without soup with a small side of rice with Ikura (salmon roe), and there was so much beef that I could barely finish. My husband ordered the hot version and a separate bowl, and we both left extremely satisfied. I've literally paid $20+ elsewhere for half the portion and flavor. The value here is crazy--especially in Brooklyn. For around $100 total with tip, we were absolutely stuffed. Standout dishes: * Beef udon (hot or cold--can't go wrong) * Eel appetizer * Curry rice bowl Service & Vibes: 5/5 This spot is tiny--maybe 15 seats max--and you're definitely elbow-to-elbow with other diners. So if you need personal space, this might not be your vibe. But it gave total Japan vibes in the best way. You order via QR code, there's a self-serve water station, and food came out lightning fast--like, full sets and apps in under 25 minutes. The hostess was kind and welcoming, despite the busyness. That said, the place fills fast, so go early if you want to avoid a wait. It's strictly first-come, first-served. Absolutely coming back. The noodles were next-level. The portions were generous. The price? Honestly unmatched for the quality. If you're cool with tight seating and want some of the best udon in Brooklyn--this place delivers. Just don't come with a big group or a need for elbow room.

Don Udon is exactly what I was looking for, a no frills udon place that serves great udon for not an insane price (looking at you Raku). Ordering is via QR code which is nice and efficient; the food comes out pretty quickly too. Vibes feel like a down to earth Japanese restaurant, not upscale at all which is great.

Uzaku Kyuri is so damn good. This place is still as good as the first time I came here. But unfortunately the first review I made didn't upload the pictures. Niku Oroshi Bukkake Udon is so nice and savory. Goma Tsuke udon is fresh tasting and my wife likes it.

i got the dipping udon with a sesame sauce, which was an affordable & comforting meal. the udon texture was right on point, and while it didn't blow me away, i still enjoyed the sesame sauce. such a great, no-frills place for solo dining, especially if you snag a seat by the windows! the staff were super kind & service was quick, and you order your food via a qr code so it's great whether you're in a pinch or just want a nice meal!

I've been curious to try Don Udon on Park Place for quite some time, and I after a failed attempt due to them being packed, I was able to score a seat for an early Tuesday dinner. The space is cozy (read: small), with seating for 10 people or so. Most seats are along the counter surrounding the cooking station, and a couple of seats are facing the front window overlooking the street The decor is minimalist, relaxed, and welcoming, with little interesting details like Japanese masks, vases, a puppet, a Gundam head adding a personal touch. Service is very quick: you place your order/pay/tip via your phone, and the food arrives almost immediately. Prices are reasonable for the quality - most bowls run $17-20, which feels fair given the portion sizes and freshness. They also have kids udon, which is nice. Their house-made udon noodles have a perfect chewy, bouncy texture; a pleasure to eat. For appetizer, I had the Takowasa/raw octopus, which was excellent: tasty and chewy, with pickled veggies providing a nice crunch to balance the pleasantly chewy texture of the octopus. For udon I had the seafood-based Asari Udon: the broth was delicate but flavorful, and the clams complemented the udon texture perfectly. I loved this dish! Only downsides: it gets packed during peak hours, and they don't take reservations. Pro tip: go early (before 6pm) or late (after 8:30pm) to avoid the worst of the wait times.

We wanted a quick meal, but the food took forever. I mean, it's not fast food, but all the food items sold here are from frozen food that you can easily prepare at home, I don't know why it took them so long. The server was the only person serving and he wasn't friendly.

Get to the Chase: Pros: 1) Excellent food that came out faster than a bullet train 2) Service was top notch 3) There was a mistake in the order for one of the drinks, so they just gave the extra beverage for free 4) Did not break the bank, so I still be able to retire in 40 years 5) Closest authentic unagi I could find in NY since visiting Japan Cons: 1) Tight seating, and need to wait outside which in the winter can be tough

Great udon, very fresh and delicious. The flavors are very good, i would recommend this place!

Dashi Okume sells ... you guessed it ... dashi. They sell several kinds, and you can taste all of them there in the shop before deciding which to take home with you (I tried them all and went home with one bag of vegetable dashi and one bag of sweet shellfish dashi). They also make custom-made dashi. You can choose from around 30 ingredients - dried fish, seaweed, mushrooms, and vegetables. They grind it up and put into individual bags for you. Such a fun idea, but I thought I should try some of their pre-made dashi options before creating mine own. They also sell miso, rice, noodles, rice seasoning, seaweed, tea, and other items. I picked up some Japanese mustard, seaweed, and rice seasoning to take home with my dashi. Beyond being a great shop, they also have a cafe area where they offer a teishoku set meal - you pick your fish, which comes with tea, rice, miso soup, pickles, and sides. They also offer an omakase popup. The shop is beautiful, and the service was very friendly and helpful. I'll certainly return for more shopping but next time I plan to make a meal of it and try their teishoku set.

Simple and satisfying on the food front, for the 2 of us, the cost was about $110. So not a cheap meal, but good food. The vibe though was a little different from what I was expecting. I went in thinking restaurant and what I got was more of a market atmosphere. While you are eating, people are walking around shopping and browsing, and there are products displayed and sold throughout the space. Not exactly my ideal setting for a sit down meal, but it works well enough for a casual weekend afternoon stop. One of the highlights beyond the food were the soup broths and dried flake samples they had available to try at Dashi Okume. We worked our way through most of them and they were genuinely delicious. My wife liked them enough to buy one to use as a miso soup base at home, which says a lot. They also carry items for cats, which was a fun little surprise. As for the place itself, Dashi Okume is located on Norman Avenue and operates as a collective, meaning it is not one single business but rather a shared space where multiple different vendors and businesses come together under one roof. That explains the market within a restaurant feeling. Overall Dashi Okume is a worthwhile stop, especially if you enjoy exploring and sampling along the way. Just go in knowing it is more of a hybrid experience than a traditional sit down meal.

While wandering through Bed-Stuy on a weekday evening, my husband and I decided to try out this new…read moresushi spot. It wasn't terrible--but I had a lot of mixed feelings. Food: 3/5 I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was excited when I saw a deluxe sashimi set on the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The scallop was thinly sliced and lacked the rich texture I was hoping for. The salmon and other cuts were decent, but short and oddly shaped--chunky yet small, which made the whole presentation feel a bit off for something labeled deluxe. We also tried to branch out and ordered the short rib entree. For $21, it was shockingly small--definitely a single-person portion, not sharable. I added extra ikura to a salmon donburi bowl for $2, but it was barely a teaspoon's worth--just enough to say it was there. Oddly, the salmon slices in that bowl were thinner than the sashimi we had just eaten, and overall, it left me still hungry even after sharing a maki roll. Lastly, my husband ordered a green salad, which somehow took the entire meal service to arrive. When it finally came, it was just plain romaine, cucumbers, radish, and dressing. For a dinner that clocked in at over $150 (after tip), we definitely left underwhelmed. Service: 3/5 This part wasn't bad, just confusing. We were seated quickly, but the pacing of the meal was strange. Our seaweed salad and soups came out promptly, but the green salad came last, after the hot dishes and nearly after my husband finished eating. Also, a small thing--but when I'm paying $16 for four oysters, I want to know what kind they are. The menu just said "West Coast oysters," but our server couldn't tell us the variety or origin. Not a huge deal, but it added to a general lack of polish that didn't quite match the pricing. I don't think I'd return. For the price, there are better sushi options in Brooklyn with higher quality, better portions, and clearer service. Still, I appreciate new spots opening up in the neighborhood, and I'm always happy to try something new. Hopefully they refine the menu and service with time.

We started with the salmon belly carpaccio which I'd say isn't really a carpaccio because the salmon isn't sliced as thinly as you'd expect. But! I mention that just to set expectations. Nomenclature aside, it's an excellent appetizer. Served in a truffle and ponzu sauce, the salmon is lightly seared which yields two different textures to the fish. It practically melts in your mouth. Highly recommend this dish. For my entree I went with the trio don, which is 6 pieces of sashimi served over your choice of plain or sushi rice (sushi rice for me). The fish was fresh and flavorful. The portion was perfect for me. My boyfriend ordered a yellowtail roll and enjoyed that as well. We also shared a carafe of the cold house sake. I'd definitely come back and try more items on the menu. It's great for sharing and trying new dishes. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the prices were very reasonable.

Arriving to the restaurant, the outside is subtle and minimalist, a single door with a single glass pane window showing the front interior. Walking into the foyer hallway is where the theme begins, you're transported to a Victorian meets Japanese vibe, like you're entering the abode of a well-traveled citizen of the world, walls covered with memorabilia, maps and decorative elements. Inside along the front section of the restaurant, the walls are lined with shelves of "personal effects," as if you were dining in Mr. Moto's study--a top hat, gloves, time pieces, books, maps and other classically European decor like miniature bronze busts, clocks and miniature ship model. On back left or a handful of booths that comfortably seat four, on back right a luxurious bar area rounds out the space. Curiously a fancy bell board is affixed above the bar, (the type that large mansions used to ring for servants, the old version using a system of ropes and pulleys,) I learned this is where a bell rings when you press the button at your table. After consuming most of the Kaisen don the staff will bring ochazuke fish broth simmering for 60 hours to pour over your rice and fish, as a savory and soupy way to end the meal. I'll say it in advance before getting to the rest of the food--that broth is delicious! We ordered to drink: - Peach Sake "Miwaku no Momo" 魅惑の桃 light, refreshing with juicy peach $60 per bottle: juicy indeed. Pretty dangerous stuff you could drink the whole bottle like juice lol. The following Kaisen don bowls came in Standard or Premium editions the latter being a $7 upcharge which included a heap of snow crab, crab claw, uni, extra nori sheets. I dunno if I'd call it a "heap" these days though it was a nice touch. - Aka Bowl (Premium $44): spicy salmon with cucumber, oshinko, uni and ikura. Served with sides of hamachi, soy sauce, egg yolk and oshinko. - Signature Bowl (Premium $46): tuna tartare with scallops, squid, surf clams, yuzu tobiko, cucumber, takuan, uni and ikura. Served with sides of hamachi, soy sauce, egg yolk and oshinko. - Chirashi Bowl (Premium $45): bluefin tuna, toro, scallops, salmon, and seabream sashimi slices with ikura and tamago. Served with sides of hamachi, soy sauce, and oshinko. All the fish was fresh and tender, from the three pieces of hamachi on the side to all the fish used in the Kaisen don. We collectively enjoyed and can recommend! If there is one thing I'd suggest is to order a couple apps, the kaisen don was a fair size though I would've preferred a little more food in hindsight. For dessert, we ordered both the Hojicha Pannacotta $10 and Matcha Tiramisu $12. The textures of both were terrific, and not too sweet. The panna cotta was smooth, silky, creamy, since it was a hojicha syrup poured over, most of the flavor of the hojicha ended up concentrated towards the bottom, I would've appreciated a stronger tea taste though it was yummy for sure. The tiramisu was super light and fluffy, I almost wanted a little more bite from it though flavor-wise I enjoyed the amount of matcha. The energy of different staff members varied between enthusiastic and energetic to calm and collected, though overall I can say they were friendly and knowledgeable. The bathroom is noteworthy in that it's hidden behind a bookshelf, they do a good job continuing the theme even in there too!

Then came the presentable chirashi bowl which was absolutely delicious. We got one premium and one standard and the difference was uni and crab meat. We ended the night with the Hojicha panna cotta which was the highlight of the meal! At first lick, the hojicha taste was so good that I wanted second before I even finished. I wanted to pack one to go but they said this dessert was to be enjoyed in house only.
