Back in February I had locked myself out of an interior room. Some pets were in the room, so it was important to let them out. It may have been 5pm when I called the Don Hill's office. It was not a standard lock anyone could get into at all. Anyway, it was late in the day, but they were able to reach I believe it was Matt. He was so nice, got the door open, and disabled another lock I no longer had a key for. He also noticed a problem with the front door lock and fixed it for us. I'm sure he must have had a long day, but he couldn't have been kinder or more helpful. read more

After searching every other possible option in the area and outside, I finally landed at On the Double for a bit of an obscure key. Part of the problem with many key places is that they don't know anything more than to put a key in an automated cutter that some manual or machine tells them to. That's fine if you have common key! If you want a key made for something like a 1978 Datsun, then, unless you go to On the Double you're probably gonna be told that you can't be helped. Give up. Buy a new car. Walk. Invest in an alternative transport! I walked into the shop expecting to be disappointed again. I left with 4 brand new keys for the car - a few were even the branded Datsun name keys, a brand which hasn't been in active use in the United States in decades! If you have a lock, key or safe problem, they have you covered and aren't going to try to break your wallet in the process. Go. Get your keys. read more

Awesome Got 2 keys with chip programming to use in my car ignition for less than 100. This is the place to go to get keys cut. Great price, not the highway robbery price from the others. Other places want 200 to cut and program 1 darn key. read more

Great while you wait service. This would be a 5 star rating, except the two staff members on hand were not behind barriers, or wearing masks. Luckily, the only other 2 customers at the time I was there did wear masks, and although there were not notices posted, there was enough space to maintain social distance. But, back to the technical part of the service provided: I had three lock cylinders to be rekeyed, matching the combinations, and this was done immediately, while I waited, and took less than 10 minutes. I brought Don's a difficult key-cutting challenge and they didn't bat an eye, and didn't charge much either. I bought a used motorcycle that came with only one key, which was bent and didn't go into the ignition easily. Don's used that poor original and made me a pair of copies that work perfectly. I thought I was going to gave to pay $$$ for a new ignition and Don's had me out the door for about $10. I'll be back. read more

Don Hill's Lock & Safe is wonderful! I was in a bad way when I lost the key to a cheap Walmart safe. They made a new key for me in minutes for $20!! Just to compare, this same thing happened to me once in Portland, OR with another cheap Walmart safe. There, they charged $100 and destroyed the safe to open it. I'm so happy to know where to go with all my future lock issues. (PS, at the end, they lifted the safe out to the car for me because I was trying to push my grandson in a stroller and lift the safe at the same time. We had Matt out to fix a stuck lock and while he was here he fixed another lock that wasn't properly installed originally for no extra charge. He then took out a malfunctioning lock on my China cabinet and replaced it for $15. He made a return call to install it and all this came to $107. He was delightful to work with and knew his stuff. Don Hills was super helpful when we moved into our new house earlier this month. We found that 2 of the uber-complicated door locks didn't work correctly and called Don Hills to come and take a look. The locksmith came out super quickly and spent an hour trying to identify the problem. When he decided we needed a whole new lock, he sat with me and found a website for me to order them from to save a bit of money. We purchased a new home and needed to get our locks re-keyed. We saw that they had good reviews here on Yelp and gave them a call. They were readily available with convenient appointments. They called prior to arrival and had plenty of hardware on the truck (should you need it) and didn't sell us what we didn't need (totally could have charged us for new hardware when a re-key was all we really needed). Very professional interaction with the technicians (who brought drop cloths for their shoes), convenient payment (took cash, card, or check), and instantly emailed us a receipt. For some reason the keys that he uses can't be copied by basic locksmiths: I'm talking about automated kiosk key cutters and Home Depot. When I wanted copies I had to go back to the shop, which wasn't a huge deal but could be an issue for you! Key copies aren't too pricey but it is a hassle. read more

I swear I was in and out of here in under a minute. We have a historic home with some original doors -- the key to those apparently can't be copied with the equipment used at the big box stores. After attempting to first get the key duped at Home Depot, I took to Yelp and found Don Hill's located nearby. They are only open weekdays, 8-5, so I swung by during my lunch break. The lady at the counter took a look and told me copies would be $3 apiece. I asked for two and took a seat; she had them ready in record time. Went above and beyond. Called to get an estimate on new external locks with a keypad, and they sent Paul right over. He was able to match our finish, and helped us repair two antique doors. We love the new keyless entry! Matt came back to finish the job-- also extremely polite, and was happy to help teach me how to unlock our upstairs knobs, even gave me his screwdriver from his truck. We first used Don Hill's services in September 2012 and again in November 2012. Each time, there was a $60 additional fee on top of the cost of the product and each service. In August 2013, we called them again to change some pins in a new doorknob. After the visit, I find that the service fee has increased to $70 (not an evening or weekend urgent call). When I called the line, they politely told me that the cost of insurance for their vehicles had increased and that fuel was expensive. I won't be calling them again and suggest to others to be prepared to cough up a lot of money just to have them on the premises. Depends on how desperate you are, for general stuff, non-emergent, I won't be calling them again. Especially since they did not even have respect for customer loyalty trying to support a small business. read more
