I've had Apex Lock and Key come out previously when my locks started getting a little temperamental, and after probably 8 years, it thought it was time for another "once over" for my locks, since their keyways were starting to get hung-up. I called Apex Lock and Key to schedule an appointment, and the locksmith that answered the phone listened to my problem description, asked me a few questions, and then suggested that a good shot of WD-40 would fix the issue. He didn't want to come out and have to charge me for something so simple, which I appreciated. Sure enough, a couple of squirts of WD-40 and exercising the lock with the key was all that was needed! i need a storage unit master lock key duplicated . i trid the kiosks at the big box stores, to no avail. i called apex lock and key locksmith and they sugghested i come in and they would assist me. they take walk-ins and i was out the door in less than 10 minutes. very friendly and courteous. john let me know that if i had any issues with the duplicate, to just bring it back and he would make it right. i really appreciated the offer, but there was no need. key worked just fine. Customer service is horrific ... no heart nor think of retaining customers as they are only concerned with their bottom line. I used their group for years (as I am a life-long resident of Apex) and can no longer in good faith recommend them. My dear neighbor lost her husband and was not completely thinking in her right mind when she thought she locked herself out. In a panic she called Apex Lock and Key and when she realized she did not need their services quickly called back only to be charged (with tax) the full amount. To make matters worse, management did not seem to be bothered nor concerned with this highly unfortunate situation and stated "they could have made more" on another job. They offered to walk me through changing the access codes. Talk about integrity - rather then take a paying job, they spent time with me over the phone, no charge, to solve my issue without needing to install new locks. Accidentally locked the bottom knob on my garage door and got the family locked out of my house - oops. Called up Apex Lock and Key as I knew they were well reviewed and they had done good work rekeying a house for me. The person on the phone mentioned they were the only one at the store and normally didn't do much mobile work on Saturday, but he would see what he could do and called his boss - the quoted service fee was pretty reasonable. Unfortunately they weren't able to come out, but they gave me advice on how to DIY it - lo and behold it worked. Looking back, I could have probably Googled how to do it - but this positive review is for their honesty. I was embarrassed/had my kids outside after a walk. They could have easily quoted me some ridiculous price and ripped me off and I probably wouldn't have realized it, but they obviously conduct their business the right way. I want to be as fair about this review as possible. On the plus side, the staff are courteous and responsive. We hired Apex Lock and Key three times from 2016 to 2020. The third time was to fix a lock they installed in 2016 that was broken. Because it was during the pandemic, and because my family and I enjoy supporting local businesses and remaining loyal to companies we hire, we paid full price for them to fix a problem that shouldn't have broken down so quickly. The following year, two more locks Apex Lock and Key installed in 2016 had broken. I asked if they could acknowledge the problem might be on their end. They would not. I asked why we should continue to pay full price to fix recurring issues. They said that's their policy. Simply put, I do not trust this company to install long-lasting locks. Three broken locks in less than five years is, to put it kindly, highly unusual at best and very concerning at worst. If you hire them, I suggest asking them to extend the warranty beyond one year. Otherwise, from my perspective, the risk is not worth it. read more

This is not my first visit to this company and it will not be my last visit either. Even my son was happy with work they did for him. This small business in Peak City as Apex is affectionately known is a true example of what a good neighbor in the business community should be. Today Ryan handled my urgent request to help me with not one but two key fobs that's stopped working. And I could Not start my car so jumped in my wife's car and drove to Apex and to our local locksmith. I expected I would have to leave both fobs But no no no. That is not how it played out instead Ryan came to my car I explained the situation and he said sit for a few minutes. Ryan came back in about five minutes he said he took care of batteries and tested the units and cleaned them up. He told Me to try them and see if they worked. We completed our business and I drove home and they both worked. TLDR: Go here if you want to get working copies of your keys made. Not like you have a choice. I went to Apex to get copies of my home keys made. I went to Lowe's and Burke Brothers, but neither of them were able to make working copies, even after going back twice. Apex Lock took the time to make sure they were using the right template and cut for me two nearly-perfect backup keys. The reason Apex Lock can make good copies while Lowes/Burke/Home Depot can't is the latter makes a copy by visually lining up the master key with a blank template. Which USUALLY works. But not all keys are the same, and subtle nuances aren't noticed. Apex will (if possible) look up the actual Schlange code for your key to get you an exact duplicate. The only ding against them is more of a me thing, which is they don't really carry any of those painted keys. I like those because they're easier to keep track of. But to compensate, they have templates that can be used to make actual working keys. The folks I met were really smart, friendly and helpful. I felt bad that I didn't have more work for them. I can't speak for any of their security/lock work, but if they approach it with half of the gusto they did when cutting keys, I think you'll be in good hands. I'm not sure what it is about the Raleigh area, but Apex Lock and Key Locksmith was the ONLY locksmith I could find near Cary that had a storefront. Everyone else was one of those mobile services. Though Apex's storefront seemed fairly new. When I was there, they didn't have a cash register. They had....a foam cup. :-) read more
