I had a pork chop rice plate.. and the crispy pork belly. Should've got the pork belly if anything because the pork chop rice plate didn't make sense. It didn't even taste like the braised pork chop it advertised to be, it's like dry and mushy at the same time.. came with pickled greens, that and cabbage was good, be aware the cabbage is doused in sesame oil. Yea it was a no for me. The pork belly was good, the egg was not . The sauce that came with the pork belly , WAY too salty so if you don't like salt usually, I wouldn't recommend. First time eating at Don Don at the HMart food court. Arrived at 11:30, not busy, but waited 10 min no acknowledgment of workers that I was standing there, they did look up and saw me but did not say anything. I left came back and a couple more people waiting. I asked we could order and lady mumbled something about very busy. When she did come to the counter instead of taking my order she immediately acknowledged someone else, very disrespectful. We go to HMart a lot but I will never eat at Don Don again. As a long-time Japanese curry lover, I'm quite disappointed at Don Don's food quality/value and unfriendly customer service. Although Cary H-Mart's "food court" appears to have a great variety of Asian concessions, most of them are actually overrated, and this is clearly one of the overrated ones. When I was about to order, I was the only customer in front and I saw employees noticed me but just ignored me until the lady cashier returned to the front of the concession to take my order. She didn't look welcoming. Ordered a Katsu Curry (Chicken instead of pork) with rice for $16+. My order was ready in less than 5 minutes, and when I went to pick it up, the guy employee in the front just looked at me without saying a word. Don Don uses those boxed instant curry sauce that you can buy from the same H-Mart this food spot is in. My girl used the same kind of product before, and Don Don even displays the small pre-packaged curry in its concession. The amounts of carrots and potatoes are minimal (I found them after digging beneath the sauce) but amount of onion is just fine. The chicken katsu is crispy, the rice is well-portioned, the warm sauce is what you'd expect from a packaged curry sauce - savory and mildly spicy (though there are spicier alternatives). Although most casual customers will likely find the katsu curry's taste acceptable, warm, tasty, and spiced just right, the overall value here is lacking. For a $16+ price, we at least expect restaurant quality with more ingredients and maybe a small complimentary miso soup like what many curry places in Japan do. I don't mind the packaged curry sauce - just wish they can elevate it beyond what an average curry enjoyer can make with that at home. As I said in my Love Bao review, the H-Mart "food court" area can get crowded, especially on weekends, but most of the time, we were able to find seats. My food experience in Don Don reminded me of my first night in Japan (Shizuoka, to be precise), where we went to a small curry restaurant and tasted Japanese curry for the first time - it was a pleasant experience with complimentary green tea, warm customer service, and a satisfying curry meal that was worth it for an affordable price. The H-Mart food court really is fire. I recently tried Don Don and it did not disappoint. I love a good udon soup and their's was awesome. It was a chilly day and it was the perfect comfort food. The noodles were perfectly chewy and the broth was very flavorful. I ordered from a few different stalls and not surprisingly Don Don was the fasted one getting the soup out. I thought the price for the soup was very reasonable (under $10) and also appreciated that their soda was only $1.50 per can. I look forward to heading in again! read more

We went early on Saturday afternoon to beat most of the crowd, but there was already a line of people forming around each food booth, including Don Don. We waited until they opened at 11 am and ordered the Gyu Don, Chicken Katsu Don and teriyaki chicken and rice for our son. Pretty good food. The beef Gyu Don was super fresh from the quality of the beef used to the steamed, white rice. It had some flavor to it but came off, mainly bland, so I added some low-sodium soy to help enhance the flavors. I should have asked for some gojuchang or sriracha, though, to add a little spice. However, my wife's chicken katsu cutlet and tempura crab sticks were amazing!! Tender, full of flavor and prepared wonderfully. Don Don was the first place I've tried inside of H-Mart and they didn't disappoint. I'd love to try more from here and will be returning often. 4 STARS!! read more

This is one of the concessions inside H-Mart serving Japanese food. We stopped by to grab hopefully a light meal like a soup noodle, which seems to always mean Udon noodle at a Japanese eatery. Considering Ramen appears to be a very popular food, ramen noodle appears to be served only in eateries that served only ramen, at least here in US. Anyway, that left us with two main food categories in the menu at this place, grilled mean with rice or Udon noodle, the lighter choice for us. Now comes the following on my wish list (or gripe for lack of): 1. Why do udon noodles always feel severely like a noodle soup rather than a soup noodle, regardless of whether I get it at a full Japanese restaurant or a street food style place like this?! There are enough times when I ordered this because of a sumptuous picture of the bowl of Udon noodle and end up very hungry at the end and yet have to decline a second order because my fellow diner were smart enough to order something like grilled meat with rice, were satiated, and ready to leave. 2. While the picture displayed for my choice (beef ramen) had fresh green vegetable leaves floating on top of the soup, that was its extend of it, two to three thin pieces of vegetable. In a past visit, we got a balanced meal by ordering a plate of boiled soybean and a meat-&-rice plate to share. Unfortunately, sharing a meal and a large order of soybeans at a food-court turned out to be a messy experience. In general, the price charged at these eateries are comparable to full-service restaurants, so it's not dining on the cheap; just convenient if you're already shopping there. 3. The beef slices were overcooked and chewy without any flavor beside what came from the soup, which was the only thing that was the only that came in generous amount, is delicious enough, but alas not filling! It was unfortunate that a Thai food concession that was here closed and was replaced by a Taiwanese eatery that doesn't serve noodles; and neither do the two Korean food concessions! There used to be a second concession on the opposite side of H-Mart's produce section. sitting lonely by itself, that served Japanese food, but had a completely inadequate dining area. Last time we check, it was under renovation. To be fair, H-Mart also have a concession that serves primarily Korean Fried Chicken. While their fried chicken is much better than KFC's stuff, it's not a light meal. read more

Located inside the HMart Korean grocery store, this donburi style eatery is absolutely BANGING. I have made it a personal mission to try literally EVERYthing on the menu. Every time I go it is being ran by the same 2 people, and I love going to watch the man cook my food to order with the utmost pride and care. Also he is very sweet and accommodating! He always gives me extra kikurage in my ramen when I ask, and they have some of the best miso soup I've ever had. Also, their tempura sauce literally IS the best I've ever had. gave a benefit of a doubt and tried their "popular" dish even though they literally had no one in line. i got their katsu curry with pork option. the curry is one of those pre packaged 4 bucks cubes that can make 12 servings, but they somehow messed that up and made it bland. the katsu breadding was burnt and the pork itself had no flavor and the breadding was coming apart from the pork. loading the curry with onions and carrots made it really sweet and nasty. just go to any other food court place and avoid here if you value your time and your palate.
