This place is hit and miss. I have had great experiences with them and then I have some pretty bad ones too. I have to be fair and understand that with the pandemic places are short staffed. So that is not an issue. But when it comes to food I eat I expect for it to be good and edible. Its crazy because we will place our order and literally the food comes out in like 5 minutes. That means it was probably sitting under a heating lamp. Enchiladas were cold and tacos were so soggy the tortilla broke. Now onto the service. It was fine under the circumstances. The other issue I have with them was sometimes the bill seems really big and I have now took over paying and not my husband, he doesn't really look at the receipts before he pays. The food here is very delicious. It's the 1st Mexican restaurant that I LOVE. I've been looking around the antelope valley for about 9 months. Apparently everyone in the AV goes to El Toreo in Lancaster, but that restaurant has NOTHING against Don Chato. The Horchata here is the BEST I've had so far and I LOVE horchata. I will warn you, they charge $1 for a refill, but I think it's worth it for the taste. I had the shrimp enchiladas, which are served with rice and beans (unless you get la carte order) Everything on this plate has it's own flavor. And I say that because at other places, when I get a dish similar to this one, everything on it taste the same (El toreo *cough cough*) I definitely recommend this restaurant. read more

Manager and owner came around several times to make sure everything was going well, very attentive bus, and server. Plain but nice atmosphere. Clean, they wipe down their menus, which shows cleanliness. Prices seemed to be high, but all food is skyrocketing recently. Large quantity for the price. Don Chato's is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Palmdale. Everyone is very friendly. From the Host at the front door to the Bartenders, Servers, and Bussers. Clearly, a family business that cares and knows the meaning of Customer Service. But there is something that is bugging me... I find myself not going as much as I like to... On day one of opening this new location in Palmdale; the Cheese Enchilada (My favorite) were perfect!!! But something happened a few weeks after where the sauce changed? Now it tastes like it straight out of a generic can? Something needs to be added to make it taste like your grandma made the sauces...lol But all in all, the best in Mexican Restaurant in Palmdale hands down. I used to go to El Toreo because it was okay Mexican food. I have also visited Las Originales and I still think this is the better restaurant for quality food and drinks. Meh. We used to love this place when it was Don Juan's. When it reopened as Don Chato we gave them a try. The service was awful. We watched a waitress dump a plate of food on a customer, it took a painfully long time to get our dinner, and they messed up our order. Growing pains, we said. Two months later, we came in again. Food was good, but pricey. We were a little annoyed that each plate came out of the kitchen at different times. Fast forward. It is now 5-6 months after opening and plates still come out one at a time. Prices are high. An example: 3 taquito appetizer was $7.95. A 3 taquito dinner was $15.95. They are charging $8 for rice, beans and salad?!! The happy hour "special" for a draft Bud Light was $5. We decided against having dinner, finished our drinks, and left. Looking for a Mother's Day Sunday brunch called this place and they had a Mother's Day brunch , reserved for 5@10am. Walked in was greeted by the front desk hostess with a rose . Sat down and had delicious food with champagne. Apparently they have an Acton location but this palmdale is two months new. All staff members went above and beyond.
