Came to the new restaurant today to see if it was like the old place I haven't been here in a really long time. I have gotten to go orders from the old spot but not from the new spot and it looks wonderful. I like how they upgraded the food still taste excellent we had the chile rellenos .à la carte. This spot is a gem! Had the hard chicken tacos and they were perfect (they don't skimp out on the food). The service was quick and they even changed the channel so I could watch the Seahawks game on one of the TVs. The location is very clean and welcoming and the staff was extremely polite. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in this area. The food and their service are remarkable. This restaurant is tucked into a small plaza and is cool, quite, chill, and peaceful. They gave complimentary chips and salsa and then asked my if I wanted more after I finished. The owner was very nice and helped explain the differences between the 3 tortas that were on the menu (Milaneza, Cubana, and Talia). I ended up ordering a Torta Talia since it has everything that the Milaneza has but with additional chorizo and carnitas. The torta arrived in 8 minutes and was the freshest tasting torta that I ever had. The bread is not excessively thick and each slice was toasted on both sides. Everything worked in a symphony. Nothing was overly salty or greasy. This torta has beans, potatoes, white onions, avocado, mayo, and pickled peppers. One half was enough to make me full even on an empty stomach. I really enjoyed the sandwich and the hospitality of the staff. read more

I recently went back to Pepe El Toro Mexican restaurant in Lancaster after not being there for about 3 months and had a really good Tamale meal. I love tamales and this place has the best I've eaten. The restaurant is really nice and very clean. The server was very polite and the food that came out was just as I ordered, which always helps. after everything I ate, you think that would have been enough, but no I ordered the fried ice-cream for dessert, which again was good! Spending more time in Lancaster today than we had planned, we were hungry. This was our first venture at indoor dining in well over a year; but we've both received both vaccines and the restaurant was Covid conscious only making 4 of their 6 tables available for patrons. They're a small little dive, but dives often offer some of the best tasting cuisine. Nice welcome and a short wait for a complete wipe down of our table and seats, which was much appreciated. Then given our menus, water, chips and salsa. They passed the chip/salsa test but could have used a little more heat. Somehow we both settled on the Carne Asada Tostada Salad with a wait time of about 20 minutes. I also requested a pink lemonade. Good looking salad, maybe a bit smaller than I had imagined. But looks can be deceiving. No condiments provided on the table, probably due to avoiding them being passed through the hands of stranger after stranger. So we requested more salsa and some hot sauce. Our kind server placed the cup of "hot sauce" on the table cautioning us to use "just a little". My wife barely adding a sprinkle fearing the heat, I timidly drizzled some over my plate. But no worries, the sauce could barely even be considered mild in my opinion. Overall a very satisfying and filling meal, and we'd probably return to try other menu items. And for those non-pork eaters like ourselves, concerned about beans prepared in lard, they cook theirs in vegetable oil. read more

This is one of those gems that I would have never found had it not been for Yelp. We were driving through Lancaster on the way to Palm Springs and looking for a good restaurant. This is literally a hole in the wall, run by a super nice lady. My brother in law got a torta that he said he would have rated 8 out of 10. I don't quite understand why this place has 4.4 stars. The plates come out scalding hot which is the first sign that the food is microwaved instead of cooked fresh. Not saying that the food wasn't made fresh at somepoint but it was certainly frozen and reheated. The chicken in my Chimichanga was overly dry, the center was much colder than the outside. The outside was soft not like a fried burrito should be. The service was fine nothing all that wrong about it. The ambience was alright too everything was clean in appearance. Overall not a one star place but certainly because of the reheated food it does not deserve that 4.4 star rating that I see on here. read more
