My friend and I went here last Tuesday, we had been a few times, but the food wasn't bad, so we decided to try it again. We first had waited for a while, but Gustavo(Supervisor,Manager) checked on s and helpedus. We ordered taco plates, and my friend ordered enchiladas. The drinks were bomb, and our rice on our plates was hella hard over cooked. However, once we told Gustavo, he didn't hesitate to make it right. Walked in -then walked out. I noticed the ceiling tiles-rotted and looked like they were ready to collapse. The floors and walls are nasty too. If the owners don't care about keeping this place looking nice-I can't imagine how they care for the food. Scary. I'm sure there are numerous code violations. The drink options weren't as creative but still very good, the horchata however was 2/10, the service blows the other El Toreo out of the park tho! The ambience is very nice, large place with private booths and patio. We just went to have dinner here last night. After 32 years of patronizing this restaurant, which in my opinion had the best Mexican food in the AV, it will be our last time. The owners have not made any much needed repairs to this restaurant, it is worn and falling apart. Seeing the cockroach running up the wall near us, while having dinner, is the final straw. Get it together, or close. Sad, but, not worth going back. We will miss the servers and hostess, not their fault. Even they are embarrassed. read more

The restaurant felt dingy and it was so cold. We get seated by the kitchen and the restaurant is playing music. The kitchen was also playing very loud music. Let's talk about the bullet holes in the window and wall. I had already lost my appetite. I ordered just a cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The tortilla was hard and dry, and beans were burnt. A majority of the food here is good, but the overall location and logistics of the restaurant need to change. If feels like a maze trying to get in and out of the restaurant. Some of the tiles on the floor coming in and out of the restaurant are angled and it seems like the foundation is a little loose. It seems like a very old restaurant and it definitely needs a facelift. About the service: My friends and I were here for lunch a couple of days ago and the service was not up to par. We were placed in a corner and ignored for a majority of the time we were there. It's not attractive when you have to wave your hand at a server for them to come to take your order and refill your drinks. It was not busy at all during that time and it seemed as if the servers were preoccupied with doing something else. It's not just about the food in a restaurant that keeps the business afloat; it's about the service and the overall consistency that keeps people coming back. I feel bad for this place as it under staffed according to my parents who love coming here for the quality. The food quality failed today. I ordered a torta and they served it in a hot dog looking bun and it tasted like a hotdog bun. (The firstphoto shows what it should look like) Not only that it came with crispy carnitas... they aren't supposed be crispy. Do yourself a favor and don't order a torta it unless you're a kid. They have better options that are worth the price but not this crap. I hope they take it off their menu all together. Anyone who knows it's supposed to come on a bollio bread not a hotdog/sub bread. It's like putting a hamburger or a hot dog on sliced bread they might as well have. It took forever to get the food. The staff is exceptional, really nice and always checking in on you that's why they get 3 stars they would get 5 for service 1 for that torta. read more

We tried to put in a phone order at the one on 10th St W at Elizabeth Lake Road, but kept getting hung up on.

Great food and fast service. Just came here on Mother's Day for lunch they were far busier than normal and the waiter was by himself and the food still came faster than most restaurants on a normal day. Shredded chicken chimichanga and shredded chicken tostada salad are usually what we order. Crispy tacos are great as well. Alfredo is our server and a bit overwhelmed had to be serving 40 people by himself and we still had fast service. read more

I've gone here many times and the food and service is great. I judge a Mexican restaurant by its salsa, and I honestly rate this salsa as good as any I've had (which is a lot). I got a carne asada burrito to go, and had chips and salsa and a beer while I waited. Then got some chips and salsa to go as well. The burrito was very tasty and large. Enough for two meals. Salsa is a little bit on the spicy side for me, but not bad. We sat in the main restaurant area to the left but then decided it was a bit too cold, and moved into the bar area. Mr. Picky decided to try the Albondigas soup and I think that it might actually have tasted better than at some of their other locations. Not wanting to spend six dollars if it wasn't going to be good, he asked for a sample first, and that was a very generous size brought by our waiter Santiago--he was very accommodating throughout the meal. It was actually good enough that I then turned around and ordered it, too. While I ordered Combo #14 (chili Relleno, cheese enchilada and beef taco), he went for the á la carte Chili Relleno. The first came lukewarm and had to be sent back, but the next was piping hot and he said, "Not bad!" Using one's hands can be a great thing with food, but not when it's a taco and it's been sitting in the sauce on the plate, because then that is a mess! Putting that aside, I generally found that the food was pretty but didn't taste as good as it looked, and definitely needed salt. Mr. P was upset that the restroom facility was a mess and not working. I don't care to go into any details. Anyway ... back to the meal. So then with a $10 off coupon on $30 he had found in the local paper, we ordered flan and fried ice-cream to get the bill up to $30.15. My recommendation? Take a pass on the flan, but order the fried ice-cream (might have been the best part of the meal). Overall? I don't think the food was bad, but it wasn't good enough to turn us into fans wanting to make a repeat visit. read more

After a day of shopping, and in the need of a giant margarita we decided to try El Toreo for the first time. We arrived a bit before ( 4:30pm) the usual dinner time rush, and we were seated promptly. Our waiter came out, and I ordered water for me and the hubs (who was parking the car), and a Sprite for the little one. Our watier returned-with a very glum look on his face-with our drinks and a the ubiquitous basket of chips and dish of salsa. We nibbled the chips and looked over the menu of basic Americanized Mexican-esque cuisine, and decided on our dinner selections. The very glum waiter returned to take our orders with a very tragic look of reserved disdain upon his face. After ordering our food we ordered 2 large margaritas and the waiter got a bit more cheerful. I guess you gotta order alcohol for them to be friendly here. The food: I had the standard Fajitas, which were very good. Honestly, though, it was enough food for 3 people with my appitite, so if you get this item be prepared to take most of it home. The hubs got the carnitas burritos, which he scarfed down between exclamations of how delicious they were. The little one ate her entire taco and most of her beans, so I am guessing everyone really loved their food. "How were those Grande Margaritas" you ask?...they were AWESOME! El Toreo does not use a pre-made mix, so they are tart, limey, and loaded with tequilla. I only had one and the Hubs had to 'pour' me into the car. The prices are reasonable, the food is good, the drinks are awesome, and the service (once they warm up to you) is very pleasant. I can reccomend El Toreo to anyone just looking for a great margarita and some better-than-average-cookie-cutter Mexican food. read more

Not a good restaurant. I ordered a chicken burrito and two orders of flautas. Let me tell you that I was so disappointed. Flautas were so greasy almost burned at both ends. One of the order ( of flautas) was missing two flautas ( were supposed to be 4 in each order ) The burrito was soggy with big chunk of chicken inside ( worst burrito I've tried) Just save your trip and money if you are considering this place. I think chipotle serves better Mexican food than this place. read more

First time coming here and It's amazing. I would definitely suggest others to come here. My daughter got the cheeseburger and she loved how cheesy it was with that extra Mayo yum yum yum. I came here this past week to meet up with a few friends to have a toast before the holiday's. It's not a fancy restaurant by any means, we were not looking for fancy, however I had a hankering for enchiladas and was told that this is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area. When you walk in you the decor makes you feel like you just walked into an old Mexican restaurant literally in Mexico. We started out with the Cadillac margarita's, I thought it was pretty tasty with just the right amount of kick to it. I ordered the enchilada dinner plate, one cheese one chicken that comes with a side of rice and beans...excellent dish no complaints other than they charge you $1.00 for sour cream, the beans tasted homemade...YUM! I can't comment on any of their other dishes since my friends only wanted to meet up to drink. I will definitely be back if I am in the area. read more

I came into the establishment because I was having a massive craving for tacos I ordered four tacos and was told my total was $22.48 which was pretty expensive for just four tacos The tacos didn't come with the side of beans and rice they were just four tacos plain I decided to go ahead and purchase them because I was really hungry I wish I had not and had decided to walk out because the taco shells were extremely soggy and wet because of the cold soggy wet meat that was placed on the taco shells. read more
