Really good service and fast as well. The best thing they had was the nachos, the beef burrito and their beans were delicious. As you walk in, it feels like Mexico which I loved. The only thing small complaint would be upgrading their rice which I wasn't fawn by. It can be more authentic. The tortillas were cold but it's ok. Over all, I will definitely be back with my family again read more

This Mexican restaurant came with high recommendations from one of my wife's lady friends at our gym. So today we finally gave Don Chato a try for lunch. Arriving around 1:30 pm most of their lunch crowd had cleared, other than a boisterous group in the bar area, the restaurant was mostly empty. We were soon shown to a cozy booth in a classic Mexican setting; a bit dark but every table candlelit. Our server and the entire staff were totally helpful and friendly. Given our lunch menus we decided on our dishes after several minutes. First up was our complimentary chips and salsa, a traditional barometer of ours to help determine what might be in store at a Mexican restaurant. And this combo tested very positive on our taste meters! Fresh crisp chips and spicy delicious salsa, with just the right amount of heat to be enjoyable. And next came my wife's order of chicken tortilla soup which she shared with me; quite tasty with maybe a tad bit too much tomato taste to it though. But still very enjoyable. Soon followed by my a la carte fish taco. Then finally my 2 chicken mole enchiladas combo with rice and choice of black beans. Along with her order of el taco grande(huge!). Overall my first time take on Don Chato was good but not necessarily great Mexican cuisine. Kind of a mix between very good and average, depending on what you order and that's true with many restaurants. Great chips and salsa, and very good tortilla soup. But my fish taco was somewhat disappointing with way more filling than needed, with very little fish(breaded). Good chicken mole, though the chicken was more on the dryer side than I would have liked. The rice and black beans were decent. Jackie seemed satisfied with her humongous beef taco which also came with rice and black beans, with most of it leftover to go. I saved an enchilada and a good bit of beans and rice for dinner tonight myself. Overall this restaurant warrants a future return visit in our book. We'd like to try a few other items on the menu. Our total came to $38.76. read more

We've been coming here for so many years, since this place use to be don cocos. We always loved coming here. Until today. The food was stone cold, and chewy. It's my mom's birthday we asked them to sing to her and they did but when my dad wasn't even at the table which made it awkward because he was the one who brought her here for her birthday. The vibe is so different now. All the servers are different. We were so used to coming when Victor was here and it was always a good vibe and good service. My family and I are very unhappy. read more

The food was okay. I wasn't impressed. I enjoy Mexican food, but living in Los Angeles and among my Mexican brethren I've learned to appreciate Mexican food from different states of Mexico. Their food was dry, simple, without any spice to it. Service was dry too. The waiter came one time filled our order and never came back. The ambiance is nice. Other then that I didn't enjoy their food. read more

Didn't think Acton would have much in the way of amazing food (no offense) but I was pleasantly surprised, amazing service and food. The churro donut is the perfect portion compared to the giant fried ice cream (keep that in mind if you're buying for yourself) the margaritas are a solid choice too. This should be a must stop if you're driving through. Really funky decor, love the cactus lamps. read more

It was amazing. The food was so delicious that we will for sure be going there more, and the service couldn't ask for anything better. The waiters were on top of it, excellent service. The restaurant was clean the bathrooms absolutely everything there was not a bad thing to say about that place. My Sister and I both came from different directions and found that to be a meeting place and we will definitely be going a more often. I wish I remembered the waiters name and I would say thank you, even the waiter that was from the other table when he would pass by would ask if we needed anything and check on us when he had his own tables too it was nice how they all worked together and looked out for each other. read more

I love Don Chatos. I have been going to this place since I was a little girl. Iv always felt like this place is home to me. Growing up in Acton it is a very close community, who share the same experiences. I believe we all have made such great connections with the servers. I think the only reason I go is because of Victor!! He never forgets my order, he is always personable. To be honest there isn't a day that goes by that he isn't working so hard. My entire family loves their food and ambience. Victor really loves his customers and regulars, he is what makes Don Chatos home to us. read more

We came for the first time, never knowing this Gem in Acton! We always stopped at the stage coach Mac D's, but we needed a bathroom and a place to sit down with a baby. During COVID, this place was the Good Samaritan for our travels. It's absolutely gorgeous inside, we got a bathroom, and there's outdoor seating where you can sit and eat during COVID while you wait for your food. They go by the guidelines but you don't have to resort to a car hop when you're trying to stretch your legs. Drinks are amazing, albondigas soup is a great To-Go item that lasts and is really good--I'd get extra for the next day. They are very generous with rice and beans, we added eggs the next day and had Huevos Rancheros. Their fajitas still sizzle, my Gringa tacos were amazing, my husband's Street Tacos were so yummy for him. We appreciate Don Chato's hospitality when we needed it the most, thank you! read more

this is the only mexican restaurant I know that can mess up nachos, crappy service and even worse food.

Hidden little gem in Acton !!! Old world charm and service with great Mexican food. Try the fajitas combo chicken and beef, it's really exceptional. This restaurant reminds me of restaurants and bars in New Mexico. The food is fresh and yummy. I've eaten there many times. Love the huge burritos, fajita, tamales, enchiladas, and Chile relleno. Staff is friendly. Sometimes they're super busy, so there may be a little wait. Don't go if you're in a rush. The portions are huge! read more

The Chili Verde was excellent. Tasty Margaritas. Service was polite with a smile. Was disappointed with their fried ice cream . They served us a fried ice cream dish that was stale and cold right out of the freezer. Fried ice cream from a Mexican Cuisine restaurant of any reputation would serve their customer fresh fried ice cream, hot and crisp and delicious on the outside, melted slightly in the inside. It was a special night out for myself and my wife. I wanted to send it back. She got sad saying she didn't want to put a negative on our night so I dropped it. I'm expressing my disappointment now. Your food and restaurant should bring joy and celebration of good food and service providing customers a positive experience. read more

We needed to find a new Mexican Restaurant and kept receiving alerts about this place, we figured let's go check it out. We went in the evening and as soon as we got there the area looked a bit sketchy. But sometimes gems are hidden. :) ATMOSPHERE: We open the door walked in. The hostess was very warm and welcoming. We were guided to our seats and I immediately felt like we were transported to a different place. It felt as though we were eating outdoors. I kid you not, the room temperature even felt like it. The place needs a bit of TLC, but nothing crazy. We felt comfortable. THE STAFF: I've read a few reviews talking about the staff. I'm not sure who they got but my gut feeling is they no longer work there. The staff that helped us was very nice and attentive. We want to thank our waiter (I believe his name is Lorenzo), he accommodated for us as much as he could. We requested some changes to our meals and he just kept saying "we can make that happen!" Thank you to the cooks who took the time to make sure we enjoyed our experience. You all are awesome!! THE FOOD: We ordered a few different dishes but the ones that stood out for us was the spicy burrito platter, the molcajete, and the fried icecream (PHOTOS ATTACHED). The servings are VERY generous. The only issue we had was with the sodas. They tasted a bit salty...??? Not sure why that was. We thought perhaps the syrup to carbon ratio was off so we requested a different type of soda. But there it was again, the saltiness in the soda. We eventually asked our waiter if he could please just bring us water. The water alone was refreshing. My only assumption is that there was something going on with their soda machine. Also the rice and beans could've been a bit hotter when we recieved our meals, but nevertheless it was tasty. Aside from this the food and service was wonderful. read more

My wife and I have been going to Don Chatos for years. They're one of the main Mexican restaurants here in Acton. From a huge menu, to a full bar, they have something for everyone. Comfy booth seating, a nice moody atmosphere, and friendly staff. Victor has been our go-to waiter and is always quick with the friendly greetings. The table side service is generally pretty quick. Since Covid, they've been offering margaritas to go. This has been a nice reminder of the times before quarantine. On Friday nights and weekends, they can get quite busy, so if you get a voicemail message, just try again in a few minutes. Their time for pick-up estimates are pretty accurate. With small businesses suffering, it feels good knowing I'm supporting a great local business and getting great tasty food. Win-win! read more

We've been going here for years. The food is pretty good, but sadly the prices have skyrocketed, along with other businesses. The staff is super nice always. I'd like a slightly better quality of food and choices on their menu, but that doesn't stop us from going whenever we can afford to go. Three adults, plus tip, was $134 the other night to give you an idea. We had a meal and margaritas for each person. Two of us had a second drink, but we had no appetizers, etc. That used to be fine dining prices. read more

I have lived in the area for 30 years, and eating here for as long as I can remember. I would say on average we eat here or get a drink once a week. Victor always made myself and friends feel like family. Victor has always been such a large reason we love going to eat here. He has such a large positive influence on the experience of eating here that even my friends who don't live in the area will always say how they need to come to don Chatos to see victor. He is always there working anytime we go so we always request to sit in his section. read more

Great food, great vibe, great local place. Service can be slow unless you get Victor. He'll ensure your drinks are right, your order is good and will make great conversation with you while you're there. We are locals and go here all the time, food is great, Victor is the best server and really the only reason we choose don chatos over other local restaurants, It wouldn't be the same place without him, he treats us like family and makes the experience there great, if you want good Mexican food at a good price go to don chatos read more

Overrated, this is the only place to eat in Acton so it gets a-lot more praise than it should. The food was dry. Prices were high. Service was slow. Waiter messed up the order and told us we could pay at the counter BEFORE our main entrees even hit the table (we had just finished our appetizers). We kept having to flag another server down to assist us. It was not busy. Had to go up to the counter to get a to go box and pay. But other tables were able to pay from the table. The food was bland- it gets the job done. If you can swing the 20 min drive to Palmdale, you will get many more options to choose from. Ones with better prices and service. read more

This location was once Don Cuco and I am sad to say that this place is no replacement. Not only is the food mediocre at best, but it's more expensive as well. I decided to get lunch from here and I was optimistic. Unfortunately, the guy who took my order wasn't a very good waiter alternative. The carne Asada wasn't seasoned at all. They literally put a cooked plain steak on my plate with raw diced green onions on top. You would think they would have at least grilled the onion, let alone season the steak with something... anything. Then I was disappointed to see my flower tortillas were corn. One last disappointment came with their salsa. Gag! Tastes like they put tomatoes in a food processor and added chili seeds to make it spicy. Terrible! The chips were crisp and delicious though. read more

I go in with my family Saturday night and ordered carne asada tacos. The meat was cold, so my husband sent it back. The servers excuse was the pico de gallo and guacamole made it cold, so we requested plain tacos. We waited over 30 minutes and I asked him how much longer? He said he never requested it to be remade because we said we didn't want it. Never did we say that. All we said was make it plain. Who in their right mind assumes we just don't want to eat anymore. When u send a plate back it's because it needs to be remade. I couldn't believe this happened. We left upset and hungry. Never coming back here again read more
