Well before it's charming renovation, back to when it had leather bar stools at the bakery counter and Jim in the back making the best apple fritters you've ever had. I come whenever I'm in town and it's always good. I think more than anything I come for the nostalgia. The Rice Krispie treats are always a solid pick and I enjoy them a lot. Same with the smiley face cookies, the bakery frosting is the best. I got a parfait for the first time since high school though and was sorely disappointed. They used to use wake robin yogurt (which I do remember them discontinuing some years ago), but now the yogurt is SO sweet. Overall it makes the parfait too sweet with the homemade granola and blueberry coulis. I couldn't help but notice how much smaller the parfait portions are too. They used to be full sized cups and now they're nearly half their former size which was definitely disappointing considering the price has certainly not gone down. In summary, the bakery will always hold a special place in my heart. Been going since I was a baby. The treats are good, sandwiches are solid, and they have a wide variety of beverages. My girlfriend & I were on vacation traveling to Niagara Falls & Toronto and going back toward home took long route to see Kingston, ON, Watertown, Syracuse, & Finger Lakes. We didn't want to waste much time with eating lunch. Skaneateles looked kind of snooty, not easy quick options. I said Auburn is far more major town with some options that'll be quick. Hungry, we continued westward. We settled on Sub Stop as it seemed like a decent quick local option. This is a no frills place, basic counter seating, but good lighting. You order at the counter. Prices were reasonable. It was a Friday we were there, and tuna sandwich was the special. Tuna isn't my normal pick, which would be turkey, roast beef, or perhaps something else over picking tuna. I decided I was game to get the tuna since that was the special, and it's very rare I'd get a tuna sub or sandwich. Wow, their tuna was big & a nice large portion, which made the value even better! It was tasty too. There were a lot of black olives as I wanted. I believe we had chips too. After we ate, my girlfriend suggested the banana pudding for dessert as it looked like a homemade one. I agreed it definitely did look good, but we did eat a big sandwich. She said she'll pay for it. I said ok, I'm game to try it. Wow, I think this was the best banana pudding I've ever had (it had chocolate chip cookie dough mixed in, which was awesome), which is saying a lot as I think banana pudding is a southern delicacy. I've had some very good ones especially the one year I lived in Alabama. Speaking of Alabama, when I saw Auburn, NY on the map, I thought of the college town with the school of same name, Auburn University War Eagle! Highly recommend the sub sandwich or at the very least giving the banana pudding a try here!

The line to order moved quickly, employees were friendly, and our food was made relatively quickly, and we enjoyed our food - my only complaint was my bagel was a bit too toasted and crispy for my liking, but that's all preference and there was nothing wrong with the sandwich itself. We did think it was a tad pricey (over $12 for each for a bagel sandwich), but they were a decent size and were filling. We'd definitely return.

It's pretty cool, then, to see new little spots like Daisy's popping up right after the new bike and pedestrian trail built over the old trolley line opened. Coincidence? Maybe! Daisy's is brand new, so there are still kinks to work out -- our lovely waitress was struggling with her fancy electronic ordering machine, and there was a lot of confused running around in the kitchen. The food, though, was absolutely solid. My mom was a bit skeptical about the price of her BLT before she ordered, but took it back once she received her gigantic sandwich made with perfectly fresh ingredients and served with a mound of some of the tastiest Mac salad that either of us had ever had (plus a bag of chips!). My cup of the soup of the day was hot and flavorful (if slightly over over salted). The weakest link in the whole meal was the oddly soft hard roll for my breakfast sandwich: I'd ask for it toasted next time. Daisy's also serves local Tierra Farms coffee, which is a nice touch, and there were some really nice-looking treats in the pastry case. Overall this is a super cute little place that does a pretty good job of hitting the sweet spot between an old-fashioned small-town diner and a more modern cafe (with plans to add more vegetarian/vegan options to the menu).
