WOW!! Well the funnel cake fries should be illegal! They were delightful! The huevos rancheros were just the right consistency: runny over easy eggs, crunchy corn tortillas and tasty refried beans covered in homemade salsa. My experience at Dolli's Diner is limited to one visit for breakfast service, so I can offer no commentary on the hand-pattied beef burgers, thick shakes, and homemade cakes and pies referenced by myriad other Yelpers. I prefer to visit a restaurant a minimum of three times before writing a review, but who knows if or when I will ever return to this charming little diner. Housed in the historic Annie Hoya building (erected in 1900) in downtown Nacogdoches, Dolli's Diner served up a hearty, no-frills breakfast on my recent trip through East Texas. Our bespectacled, sylphlike waitress (Dolli herself, perhaps?) was attentive and ingratiating, a feat considering the number of tables she was handling. She appeared to be on a first-name basis with several local yokels, a sign that this joint is worthy of repeat patronage. I'm always leery of waitstaff who commit orders to memory (for memory is not to be trusted), but she remembered everything, including my gluttonous request for extra cheddar, jalapeños, and chorizo in my Mexican omelette. The omelette in question was a thing of beauty: fluffy, cheesy (shredded cheddar inside, a slice of processed Monterrey Jack outside), and stuffed generously with cumin-accented Mexican chorizo and bits of fresh, crisp vein-in jalapeños. So many breakfast joints screw up the humble omelette (see my review of the Trading Post Restaurant in Kit Carson, CO), so I applaud a cook armed with a whisk and a copy of Julia Child's canonical French omelette recipe. Dame Julia's trick involves adding small knobs of cold butter to a beaten egg prior to cooking the mixture. The melting butter acts as a buffer between the protein in the egg, resulting in an omelette with a light, pillowy texture. The late Dr. Magnus Pyke would cry "Science!", but I attribute the deliciousness to culinary alchemy. All breakfast plates include home fries and a choice of toast (white, wheat, or sourdough). The home fries were crisp and golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside. I would have preferred them with lots of caramelized onions, but I nitpick. Less forgivable were three slices of store-bought wheat toast saturated in a greasy substance tasting of Country Crock. I wouldn't expect a kitchen so small to bake its own bread, but surely Dolli could source her hearth from a local bakery. At a minimum, enter the 21st century and offer real butter. Is Dolli's Diner a destination joint, the quirky kind of place that Guy Fieri might showcase and then curse forever on "Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives"? No. Is Dolli's Diner worth a stop for breakfast while visiting Nacodoches, Texas? Absolutely! I debated if this place was special enough to warrant a Ryan M. review, but then I noticed that one of my photos (my dad's pedestrian breakfast of flapjacks, bacon, and eggs) was the featured picture here on Yelp. A photograph of such quality -- a textbook example of how to frame and light a plate of food -- deserved an accompanying review of equal merit. Modesty be damned! read more

This little cute diner is located in a very nice square. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger and the duke burger with onion rings. The food came out hot and the burgers were big. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and crispy. The meat and bacon were equally flavorful. We loved the onion rings which were perfectly battered. Our waitress was wonderful. read more

MUST bucket-list when visiting Nacogdoches! This is my second time and each meal I've tried were so good. My family of 6 approved as well. French toast were yummy. Pancakes were cooked perfect. Scrambled eggs were not runny or dry, just right! For some reason their eggs made me wanted to ask for more eggs! One of the lady who served us, knew sign language and she was amaze balls at communicating with us. This place is small. However, they made sure we are served quick! When we came first time, 45 minutes wait turned out to be 20 minutes instead. Second time, 20 minutes turned out 10 minutes. Place is crowded, but manageable! Saw this place on Yelp, so decided to try it. Not impressed, due to not very friendly service. We ordered biscuits and gravy, which may have been good but the food was Luke warm at best. The location was not very busy at the time of our visit . We had to ask for coffee refill, staff just not very attentive. My daughter and I are here for the first time. We ordered a hamburger and a fried chicken burger with fries and onion rings and we just shared everything! Great little diner on the brick street square that comprises downtown Nacogdoches. We arrived at lunch time and really struggled with ordering breakfast or lunch. Once I had decided that I was ordering lunch, then I had to decide on an open face turkey sandwich, a delicious looking cheeseburger, or the very well reviewed Chicken Fried Steak, mashed potatoes (I opted for fries because they looked so good on the next table). The CFS was perfectly cooked, the gravy tasted like it was freshly made, it was accompanied by a green bean and carrot medley that missed the mark, but hey, with all that fried food needs a veggie side, right? Service was exceptional - very friendly staff that was genuinely happy to see us stop in. Came in here just after noon on a Tuesday the 21st of November. Busy, but I was seated and waited on promptly. Placed my order and it came out fairly quickly. Chicken fried steak and eggs. No pre-made frozen fritter. The real deal, covered near the entire plate. Good gravy and the eggs were cooked properly. $13.00 folks for a full meal and I can usually polish off the entire meal., not this time. I was very pleased and highly recommend you give Dolli's Diner a try. I'm sure they're locally owned so it goes into the pockets of the community rather than some conglomerate like ihop or Waffle House. Downtown on the square, small restaurant doing breakfast and lunch. Place is cute and bust at weekends. We were there two years when we visited Nacogdoches and thought the food and service were great which is why we went there for breakfast last week. Memories are best when they are not revisited, don't expect service with a smile, one of the servers did most of her job with one hand in her pocket. The restaurant was not busy and my wife's pancakes came cold, in fact so cold that the butter was unfazed and remained like a lonely blob of snow perched uncomfortably and out of place balancing on the top of the stack. My choice: the omelette, my mouth watered as my taste buds readied themselves for the tasty onslaught of bacon, eggs, salsa that would arrive momentarily, which it did. Looked great, loaded my fork and the first bite was ..,,,,,,,,,,well disappointing, the bacon tasted as though it was yesterday's left over and badly burnt (as in cremated) scraps that were salvaged from the waste bin. I paid the full bill and then mentioned to the manager or she may be the owner that I did not want a refund but that the bacon was burnt... not much of an apology or smile, let's just say we went elsewhere the next day. read more

I wanted to try Dolli's again. The last time was in 2015. It was pretty good, from what I remember. Last Friday, we decided to eat a late lunch there. I ordered the patty melt which was pretty good, but I have a hard time believing the patty was hand made. The fries were okay, but frozen out of a bag. My meal gave me heartburn the rest of the day, which was extremely annoying. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak. He said the CFS was just okay. Not homemade at all, with a slight upgrade from a Grandy's CFS, if anyone remembers those. The mashed potatoes were instant. The green beans were the crunchy, sautéed green beans. He did not even eat them. The mashed potatoes & CFS was all covered in sausage gravy. I'm still wondering why they used sausage gravy on CFS, and the mashed potatoes. That was the oddest part of the meal. Maybe they had leftover breakfast gravy. It didn't taste homemade either. Our daughter ordered chicken & waffles. The chicken strips were clearly frozen out of a bag, and not homemade either. I think the only think homemade were the waffles she had. Overall the taste & quality were subpar. They prices were a bit ridiculous for food that came out of a bag, and not homemade. Maybe the breakfast is where it's at, because what we ordered, definitely wasn't. I am giving them two stars because the first time we came here the service was great and the food was excellent. We live about an hour away and decided to go back. This time was completely different. My husband waited 20 minutes for his drink. When we ordered we asked for the home fries to be well done and the waitress looked very annoyed and said "I'll try" and walked away. We waited another 30 minutes for our food and when it came out it was stone cold. Cold bacon, cold scrambled eggs, dry cold sausage. The food was cold enough the cheese on top had not melted at all.
