We checked this place out for the first time since we went to SFA in 2007. This place has stayed consistent. Great coffee, great people and a cozy 2 story spot to hang. My wife enjoyed her iced mint mocha. We were hoping they had a few more breakfast options (sandwiches or bagels), but our daughter loved the chocolate beignets. This place is a nice little cafe nestled in the Piney Woods of East Texas, in the home of the SFA Lumberjacks (Axe 'Em!). We were in town for a wedding, and dropped by for a breakfast sandwich and a refill on coffee beans for the AirBNB. I can't resist trying an espresso, so I also got a doppio for dine in. The espresso was well balanced, had a very clean finish, but was a fairly "safe" shot in terms of flavor, nothing too adventurous. It'd be great in milk drinks, which I suspect is the focus of most drinks sold here anyway. The drink and my sandwich to go were served quickly with a smile, and the mug I purchased with the bagged coffee was well wrapped and packed by the efficient staff at the counter. Definitely a nice place for an "above the average" coffee and experience, plenty of seating, and if you need a V60, Clever dripper, filters, or other gear, they've got a good selection of that as well. We'll definitely make a return visit before we leave town! read more

This spot was recommended by a friend and I'm so glad I stopped by! I tried the Blueberry Cold Brew and, while I personally can't say that I'll choose to combine blueberry and coffee, did find the drink very refreshing and perfect for a hot summer's day. You can tell they use fresh ingredients. Regarding the pastries, the scones were good but I wasn't the biggest fan of the chocolate chip muffin I had. I believe in buying local. However, "local" also must have a quality product. Java Jacks is both. Initially, this coffee company was started in Nacogdoches, Texas. They now have a location in Lufkin, Texas. They serve really good coffee. Everybody has different tastes and what they appreciate in coffee so I will let you come in and decide for yourselves what is best. However, I can say I've never had anything bad here. Also, the staff is friendly and accommodating for to-go orders that are larger. I often stop here and get the larger travel boxes for my customers. They all seem to like their coffee as well so I will keep doing it. Tip- They have an app if you want to utilize it. Bottom line - A local coffee company with very good coffee and very good customer service. What more can you ask for from a local business? I hope you enjoyed as much as I do. I've been visiting my family in Nacogdoches for years and have always driven by here wanting to try it out. I finally did this July and I am nothing but pleased! I'm still a basic Starbucks fan but every time I get a chance to support local I do! I had visited twice, trying out their ice matcha latte and then an iced coffee on my way out of town the morning after. Everyone was very kind and really accommodating to requests I had as well as my family. I'm sad I just only visited them just now. There are three options on the menu. None are really breakfast but I selected the Morning Club when they asked me if I wanted an egg. I enthusiastically said yes and would like it over medium. She explained it comes as a frozen egg patty, so I declined. I sat down and received a brown paper bag with a soggy microwaved turkey, mayo, and onion, on a croissant. Translation: when traveling, we're always on the lookout for a good locally owned coffee shop. My girlfriend attended school at SFA - so she spent a lot of time Java Jack's. Really glad she demanded a coffee stop. The first thing striking you while driving up is the uniqueness of the building itself. What a fantastic building! The upstairs - with the domed ceiling/roof and all the natural light - makes you wish all coffee shops were modeled that way! The second thing striking me: selling merchandise and coffee. Local roasters? Another huge plus; local roasters really appreciate their product and strive to achieve uniqueness in their roasts (as evidenced by my ordering experience). Third thing striking me: the ordering experience. I mean, they have a pour over option - another huge plus. Once I had my first (Chemex) pour over a year or so ago - I've never gone back. The barista was well informed about the coffee roasts/blends and directed me toward a great cup of coffee. This place makes definitely leaves you wishing there were more local coffee joints like Java Jack's. The ONLY reason I'm not giving 5 stars: lack of comfortable seating options. With the vibe of this place, adding some additional sofas and large plush, comfy chairs would shoot reviews into the stratosphere. There are some upstairs - but there is room for MORE! read more

I just visited this place for the very first time. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance of the place. The menu was easy to understand and the staff were friendly and quick to take my order. I went with a simple white chocolate mocha. The drink was very nice, maybe even a little too sweet but I still enjoyed it. Service was quick and excellent. The coffee is great, plenty of parking and upstairs/downstairs seating with tables, couches, and free wifi. Worth driving past Starbucks to try. *Wow. I've visited twice and had two completely different experiences. Don't ask for ice water to go because not only will the barista and manager verbally argue about their strict no-buying-large-cups policy but a random customer with too much time on his hands started pointing out the for here water cups I could use to drink from, standing in the store chugging water because the restrictions on which cups they're allowed to provide are so fair and make sense. I've never had this much of a problem ordering coffee. In Texas when the heat index tops 100 most restaurants are happy to offer large cups of water to go (in addition to the over priced coffee I was buying) but I was offered to purchase a small cup of ice for 25 cents OR buy a$3 bottle of smart water, but there was NO WAY I was getting a large cup of ice from that barista and manager even if I paid for it. I work outside. I dehydrate. I need more than 12 ounces of water at a time, and I don't want to pay for overpriced smart water. To the staff who did nothing to make me feel like a welcome customer, go back to the basics. Treat other people the way you want to be treated, not as an inconvenience to your day. read more

This place is a town jewel! They always make my drink how I want it, nice people running the window and inside. Kinda confusing if tips go on debit card receipts so sometimes I do sometimes I dont, never really know if they go back and add it. Regardless I love their coffee!
