I often shop here there are issues occasionally, with loud obnoxious students, but isn't that their raison d'être at that age? The prices have increased over the last couple of months. I buy candles and batteries here quite often, AAA batteries are $29.99 at Shoppers and $2.25 at Dollarama it's not brain surgery. I have never had problems with the staff, they are a mixed bunch all with their own personalities, I try to be courteous since I would hate having to do that job! The security is a little weird at times, I was followed around the store by a female guard who actually gave me a Stalker Vibe! I engaged her in conversation about the hours at the store and she ignored me afterwards! LOL You just have to be realistic in your expectations going into a Dollarama, I mean really? Weird layout compared to a lot of other Dollarama stores I have been to, although I understand that it's got a lot of foot traffic around school end time for elementary and secondary school students but quite a number of university and college students when I went but people were so polite and understanding and plenty of self checkout stations even at the busiest times so even if you're waiting for a self checkout you have a short or very short wait and there were at least two regular cashiers available but I prefer the self checkout and these ones work extremely well and smoothly. Quite a few new things I have not seen in any other Dollarama I have been to even my more usual Yonge and Eglinton east side which gets plenty of rare items. A good model for a high traffic store to imitate with nicer people than some Dollarama locations that experience similar people traffic. Would come back especially for snacks before a movie at the theatre next door or almost next door. Plenty of both lower and higher price point items so whether you are a student on a tight budget or one of the well off, there's something for almost everyone. read more

This sure is a Dollarama. It's not going to change your life, but if you need a padlock or an HDMI cord, and you don't want to pay more than a few bucks, this is a place that is worth stopping in. All things being honest, Dollarama has improved in quality since they upped their price limit. It has allowed them to bring in things like Guitar Hero for the WiiU, or board games that cost over twenty dollars at retail. I always like looking through the toys and the books. Cards for a buck is better than eight bucks at Hallmark. You know what you're getting into here. read more

My wife works at Dollarama. I have found the managers and district managers to be horrifying to work for. When you start the job they tell you after your training, that you will be positioned closest to where you home, not true. The district manager, my wife works for had forced them to work 2 weeks straight and up two 10 hour day, no time off just to open a store. If you are new to the company they will pull you out of another store to work these long hours and no time off for weeks. My wife has over 14 years of experience in retail and was a manager for a large chain company, and she said that the managers and district managers treat the staff poorly. The wife has been bounced around from store to store, six times to be exact. My wife is a hard worker that does not stand around and is very pleasant, I just wonder what the hell do they do to those that do stand around. If you want to feel degraded, abused by management and have no life, well Dollarama is for you. Otherwise, run, run fast and far. My wife should have listened to me when I googled Dollarama and the former employees had nothing good to say about this company. But you think well they probably are overreacting, nope not at all they did not say enough. A better name for this place would probably be TwoDollarama. I think the majority of things here are actually $2, but still that's quite a deal. Located right off the Bathurst subway station. I LOVE dollar stores, and I miss the 99 Cent Only stores back in California. Dollarama comes a close second though - I've honestly never seen a cleaner dollar store. It's surprisingly organized too, and very well lit - most of the stock is placed logically (or, kind of logically) in the aisles and not just scattered around the floor. They've always been filled to the brim with plain old fashioned stuff all the times I've gone. Of course, this is a dollar store so don't expect constant or reliable stock - if they get a massive shipment of hair gel or plastic tablecloths, that's what they're going to be stocking. At the moment, they're an awesome place to hit up right before the beach - cheap sunscreen, lots of cool beach toys. Also, a lot of Canada gear - wish I had come here right before Canada Day! Umbrellas, cheap headbands and hair ties, pencils, buckets - basically all those random things you really need (or really want), but don't really want to spend a lot of money on (when I'm buying a bucket, I want it to be as cheap as possible. I don't really care about it being the best bucket in the world). Don't expect anything in terms of service - there will probably only be one cashier and maybe one other staffsperson, so you'll be left on your own to figure out why the hair gel was right next to the sunscreen and not next to the shampoo, but at $2 a pop that's fine. Also, it's right off the subway and on a busy part of Bloor, so it's wayyy less sketchy than some of the other Dollaramas in Toronto. Love this store, and not ashamed! read more

Do you need a bucket? Of course you do! Dollarama also thinks you do as they currently have half an aisle stocked with them all in the same size. Sonic Boom had barely locked the doors on their old location before the signs went up saying Dollarama was moving in. While the Annex didn't really need another dollar-type store (Honest Ed's and Payless for Everything just yards away) it's kind of nice to have a chain dollar store in the 'hood. Their products seem to be slightly (and I do mean SLIGHTLY) more reputable than many of the stores in the area. It would seem that the store is settling into it's new home and waiting to see what it's consumers are going to want as they haven't fully stocked the store. There are a few aisles with shelves lined with the same product (like buckets) and some slat-walls hanging bare. Considering all the grumbling in the neighbourhood about another chain moving in, the store was pretty busy on a Sunday morning. read more

I had a rather terrible experience at this location...Firstly I hate the self check outs...I'm a customer (not an employee) I DON'T SELF CHECKOUT!!!...so when I finally got a cashier and after giving me my total she asked for my postal code? Dollaramas are among my favourite slices of Canadiana. We might not have as many big box stores and our soda pops might be smaller, but we sure know hot to satiate the need for dollar plastic crap. This newer Annex location in the former home of Sonic Boom is currently my fave dollar store. It has all the normal plastic goods for a dollar, plus... +Excellent party aisle, filled with odds and ends for any theme I can think of... and I think up some weird shit. +Great cleaning supplies aisle. We're talking name brands for a dollar! +Superb dish selection. French onion soups bowls to wine glasses and beyond. +Decent pen and market selection. If you have $10 and have the compulsive urge to shop, but really can't spend more than that, satiate your every desire by filling up a basket here. read more

Call me crazy but I love Dollarama. Its far better than the dollar stores we have in the states. That being said, don't be fooled by the name as most things are above a dollar (I've seen as much as $3). What I like about the store is the large assortment of products. Lots of arts and crafts (painting, scrapbook/card making, jewelry making, sewing, etc.), greeting cards and party supplies. There are tons of kitchen items (utensils, storage, cleaning, cooking, baking), bathroom items, foods, toiletries, school supplies, decor and more. Are these items top quality....no, but some are pretty good and get the job done. I'm here at least once a week getting things I need and sometimes things that I don't. The only things that I don't like are 1) they don't accept credit 2) there are no refunds or exchanges 3) you have to pay for shopping bags (which seems common at many stores here) read more

A guilty admission: I actually don't mind this Dollarama. The lighting is harsh. The aisles aren't labelled. It's full of plastic crap that relatives you don't like will give you, and in turn be gifted. It is, however convenient. Unlike Honest Ed's, and Payless on Bathurst, it's clean, and you can make a quick escape. They also have the sort of things you need but don't want to pay for, like buckets, cheap umbrellas, toothbrush cases and button batteries. They also have the cheapest soft drinks anywhere. The Dollarama at Bloor and Bathurst is a perfectly good outpost of the venerable dollar store chain. I stop by the place whenever I need to load up on supplies--it's conveniently located next to the Bathurst subway station, and on my way home. The concerns that Sura mentioned regarding empty shelves are valid. They really do need to come up with some better way to handle seasonal products. read more

Security guards at Dollarama! Guess it has been quite some time since I last visited this location because I was surprised to see not one, but two security guards by the entrance/exit. Was that necessary for a dollar store? This location gets crowded mid-afternoon because school's out and the teenagers are numerous, so I supposed the security guards were for crowd control or perhaps they had an incident in the past that warranted the extra security. The store, like any typical Dollarama consisted of rows upon rows of shelves filled with inexpensive merchandise, almost anything and everything imaginable. The best thing about the store other than the location around the corner from Bathurst Station, it was on street level with lots of natural light entering through the large windows. Definitely doesn't have that musty and nauseous odour one would find in Dollaramas located in the basements. The cashiers are often friendly, but like most Dollaramas, they're usually quick at scanning your items and then move on to the next customer without much words being exchanged. read more

I will review here some of the products that are made for Dollarama. Bowlfull Instant Noodle Soup * Probably the worst product I have tried since I started reading labels. For purposes of reviewing I like to eat the product and then read the label after trying to guess what is in it. Rather an odd game but I have to amuse myself somehow. In this case I got a monosodium glutamate rush like never before so I knew that was in there. That stuff should be banned, it is everywhere and toxic. The soup was very gritty, as if it had sand in it. NEVER AGAIN. Crunchino Chocolate Flavour Filled Cookies * (1 star) Crunchino Hazelnut Flavour Filled Cookies * (1 star) 170 g, made in Poland for Dollarama, $1.25 Both of these cookies are dry as dust except for the gooey chemical soup centre and imitation chocolate chips. Not nice. Note to self to read the ingredient list before purchasing, this one is just scary. Apparently Fruitropic is owned by Dollarama and an address for Fruitropic cannot be found, except that it is listed as Burundi. When I find out where Burundi is, I will let you know. Actually, this is made in China. So, the Fruitropic products I have tried: Fruitropic Coconut Water I like it. It has gelatinous pieces of coconut in it that makes the drink refreshing when drunk icy chilled on a hot day. Much nicer than the more popular Grace brand which has hard pieces of coconut which are quite unpleasant. Fruitropic Mandarin Oranges, broken segments, in light syrup, 284 ml. I like this, the oranges are plump and tasty. I wish the "light" syrup was not so sugary, but I just throw it away. I often have some oranges on top of a salad with some nuts, raisins, onions, and raspberry salad dressing. Sante is apparently made in Poland for Dollarama, you need to know your geography to figure that out. Sante Granola with Pomegranate (and apparently, blueberries) crispy cereal flakes Comes in a 325 g bag I liked the first bowl (with milk) a lot, then the next day took a closer look and found that the blueberries were little perfect square cubes and quite tough. I could not see any pomegranates. Looked on the label - apparently those cubes are indeed pomegranates as well as blueberries mixed with other stuff and formed into cubes. AWK! There's a lot of sugar in this cereal. I might try it again, thought the second bowl had to sit with the milk in for an hour it while I tended to the two terrors (cats) who were yet again in trouble, and when I got back the cereal had turned to unappetizing mush. Tasteful Mushrooms, Whole Choice Grade 284 ml, made in China and imported for Dollarama Can was full of mushrooms after pouring out over-salted liquid, tasted fine. Might buy again. He was following me around like I was going to hold up the place which never happens to me in the other ones. What can i say?? When you can walk into a store and buy a 6 foot HDMI cord for $3 and you take it home and it works, you're walking on sunshine! There are so many items that may not seem like much buy themselves, but if you are at all crafty you can make gifts for people (or yourself) and no one would ever know the whole thing cost you less than 10 dollars to create! Bah, this is my least favorite Dollarama because it is usually batshit insane busy and doesn't have the best selection of store staples. AND NOW, they've included security dudes who patrol shoppers pretty aggressively...LIKE WHO EVEN STEALS FROM A DOLLAR STORE YOU GUYS. If anything, once you feel the need to STEAL, go big or go home...Like Winona Ryder (Wino 4 Ever). It takes away from the joy of aimlessly wandering around trying to find your random dollar store golden goose egg (aka something ridiculous and absurd that you don't really need, but for the price of 2 dollars you're just like I NEED THIS REGARDLESS OF HOW USEFUL IT IS) Anywhozzle, this dollrama is not amazing, but not entirely terrible either, it'll do in a pinch and I usually go there in a last minute dash for essentials (I am obsessed with their cosmetic sponges as they are dirt cheap, and give me amazing coverage!), you can pick up basic necessities, but they usually run out of the good stuff by the evening (fresh bread, croissants), so basically hot ticket items kinda fly off the shelves here since the location is so central. The staff here are actually some of the nicest and polite Dollarama employees I've interacted with, but I generally avoid this location cause it's just too damn busy and I feel WATCHED and SURVEILLED every time I shop there. I've been shopping at this Dollarama since it first opened, since the Manager was walking around with her arm in a cast, gamely stocking shelves, checking inventory and working the registers. Things have changed. Prices have increased. True for all Dollaramas, I know. Today I needed a glass container with a pop-off lid. I bought two of them in December, one a bit bigger than the other, and I wanted more. Only the smaller container was available, so I took one and went to pay. It rang up as $3 plus tax, but the label on the one I randomly picked clearly said $2.50. So: The Manufacturer's Label had, printed right on it, a Dollarama Price of $2.50. Which means Dollarama obviously already had these items marked to sell for $2.50. Yet apparently these containers now have a $3 tag. Hey, when new inventory comes in, by all means increase the price. By 20%? Well, it's your store. But old stock - leave it alone! Oh, and Store Manager: don't walk away saying the customer [that's me] peeled off the "$3" sticker to buy the item for $2.50. I would never stoop so low. Honestly, there's only one real "rip-off artist" in this picture. read more

I do like dollarama it's a very affordable place to grab random odds and ends and it never breaks the bank! They're everywhere so it's ideal. My only comment is that there is Minimal variety and hardly there's is anything that comes out to a dollar and the name is dollarama, hmm? Good variety, but I feel this store has increased prices, seemingly arbitrarily, because of the "well-to-do"clientele from the Annex neighbourhood. Also, they have a security guard on week (school) days, and sometimes THREE security guards during school lunchtime. Noticed the disgusting attitude and behaviours of the Central Tech school students. What a shame to see the future citizens of this city behaving worse than animals, roaming in packs, shielding each other so no one can see what is being taken! BLM will be put to shame if they come to this store and observe! Some time ago, 3 years or so, there was a restaurant next to this Dollarama, that had a lunch buffet for $9. I used to frequent the place and got to know the owners. I always went around 1 pm. I was told that they were barely making ends meet, due to the students coming in for the buffet and "overeating". I did not understand how, because the place was really full, albeit with students. The next time I went during the school lunch period and observed how inhuman the Central Tech students were, cleaning out the buffet trays between every five students and screaming at the staff demanding that the trays be refilled. Right enough, the place closed down about two or three years ago, as it must have become unsustainable to operate. No restaurant in the Annex now offers a buffet anymore. Sorry about this rant, but I read earlier of someone complaining about security in a dollar store, mentioning that no one would steal from a dollar store. I was so shocked by the students' behaviour, that I had to review after my observations, that this city's future citizens are the ones who steal from, yes, even a dollar store! I can't speak for other Dollaramas, but THIS one is deplorable. I've NEVER had a good experience in it, despite spacing my visits out over the course of two years, each time hoping it would have improved. I hear a lot that it is clean and tidy... if this is the best you can stay for a store in Canada, that's not saying much. That's like the most basic requirement for a store. The problem with the store isn't it's stock or hygiene-- it's the deplorable people who work at it. The first time I went in, I stood in line to pay and the security guard stood at the cash and stared uninterruptedly at me in an extremely obvious, predatory way. He wasn't sneaky about it; he stared so intently and so long that I couldn't pretend I wasn't uncomfortable. I looked directly at him and told him to stop, and he deliberately kept doing it. I had all my items in my arms and a very tiny purse-- I was NOT a shoplifting risk. I got so uncomfortable I had to put my stuff down and leave without it. I actually cried afterwards, I felt so upset-- you get used to that kind of harassment from strangers, but it's more upsetting when it comes from a paid employee in a store, because you're not expecting it. The second time I went in wasn't for a year after that, and the SAME security guard stalked me around the store the entire time I was in there. I moved to one aisle to look at something, he shifted to the end of that aisle to stare at me. I told a manager that this had happened last time, and he could not care less. He was utterly useless, even when I told him that I'd spoken to a manager about this last time and she'd promised that something would be done. The third time was four months later, with a friend with me, and only because it was raining and we needed an umbrella. Because he was with me, I felt safer, and we ended up grabbing a few things. It's pretty sickening that you have to find a six-foot guy to guard you in order to go into a store. No security guard there this time, so I thought we'd have an okay time getting in and out without incident. NOPE. I don't expect people who work at the Dollarama to really care about their jobs. Really, I'm not one of those people who expects five-star service when I go in to spend a dollar on candy. I understand that it's a undesirable job. But this woman was being actively aggressive with the stuff we were buying. We had delicate sheets of stickers, and she was stuffing them into a box, bending them out of shape, and then knocked the whole thing on the ground, and didn't even offer half an apology for sending the stuff we were paying for across the floor. By the time we were out of there, I didn't even want the stuff anymore-- it felt like her mucky bad attitude was sticking to it all. Fourth time, yesterday, I ran in just to grab batteries after making sure that pervy security guard wasn't there. I was in there for TWO minutes, and the guy in the ailse next to the batteries, the employee, was THROWING boxes on the floor, and yelled "Motherf*cker!" right next to me. I'm sure it sounds funny, but these are unsettling sounds and actions to be near, especially in a retail location where you expect to be safe. Well, I DON'T feel safe in this Dollarama. And it's the only store I can say that about. I've had poor customer service experiences at places which I can roll my eyes at and laugh with friends about, but rare is the location where I actually feel unsafe. Good job, Dollarama. It's like visiting a penal colony. I know there can't be a very high standard when it comes to hiring employees, but really, you should be able to do better than employees who swear aggressively around customers, throw stuff loudly on the floor, actively destroy purchases, or leer at and stalk women around the store. Just for the record, if you want cheap alternatives, Pay Less For Everything is RIGHT around the corner on Bathurst, past the CIBC, and has a better selection, better service, and better prices. read more

This Dollarama Store(512 Bloor st west) does have EXPIRED edible goods.BEWARE. i bought a spread(Milk&hazelnut),when i got home and wanted to have a snack, i opened the can, removed the aluminum cover(inner cover),and was about to spred some on a piece of bread, i looked at the expiration date(2014 Se 21).i immediately called the store, they said the manager is not in.i waited a while. and a guy(from the store)took my call, i explained again to him that it was more than 2 months expired. he said he was not the manager, i said just look on the shelf if there are other expired ones and remove them, he said :we are busy now, just bring it back with the receipt. THEY DON"T EVER CARE if another customer bought it and ended up eating it. read more

I simply love this Dollarama location located in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood. With a large, shopper-friendly floorplan, bright lighting due to store and natural lighting), a wide selection of items and good customer service, this store definitely surpasses the shopping experiences I have at other stores nearby. Frequented by many University of Toronto students due to its close proximity to the campus, the store's location in what many consider one of Toronto's most Bohemian neighborhood gives it a certain charm from other stores that have a rather drab mood. read more

As far as Dollaramas go, there are better in the city. But it's still great for that odd kitchen gadget that you'd rather not pay $20 for, mason jars with handles, or cheap candy. That being said, there is ALWAYS a line up no matter the time of day, cashiers are outright rude, and I always feel like I'm being followed by their aggressive security guards. I keep going back to this Dollarama only because there are certain things you can get cheaper here than elsewhere - for things like parchment paper, glass containers, and pet items, I will probably always shop here, but I'm also torn. The security guards patrol fairly heavily and make you feel like you are a thief (they also racially profile...I've complained to their head office about this after seeing one security guard bring a kid to tears for looking at a pair of ear phones). There's always a line up no matter what time of day it is, and some of their cashiers are incompetent and can't do simple math. That being said, it's the only one in the neighbourhood and it's convenient. And they once had almond butter for $2...once...I will continue searching for the return of this almond butter... But yeah. It's Dollarama. Expect to feel like you are being followed (because you are) and count your change. read more
