    Snack zone!

The Dollar Tree is descended from Ben Franklin discount stores that first began operating 1953. From the Ben Franklin's, the founders opened K&K 5&10 and K&K Toy Stores. In the mid 80's another discount chain was started called only $1.00. In the 90's it was decided that the company would only focus on the development of dollar stores and in 1993 the name was changed to Dollar Tree. The company now operates close to 15,000 stores in 48 states. The company also operates the Family Dollar chain. Today I learned that not all Dollar Trees are created equal. I was in the plaza at the Goodwill and decided to check out the Dollar Tree next door. Man have I been missing out. This Dollar Tree is larger and better than any other location I have been in. I feel ripped off now that I don't have one of these near me. The freezer section is ginormous with all kinds of yummy ice cream bars. They have something called the Snack Zone with tons of cookies, crackers, chips, and candy. None of it is good for you but you would be the VIP of any road trip. One of my finds today was Late July Buffalo Queso chips. I have paid so much more for this brand in Publix. I also bought Oven Baked Fudge Mint Cookies, no need to wait for the Girl Scouts to come around. I found all of the fixings to make microwave s'mores for the camp kids. Fun size Hersheys chocolate bars, graham crackers, and marshmallows for $1 each. I also bought some inexpensive cleaning supplies for my room at camp because in the age of Covid you can't clean enough. I even found microwave popcorn which the kids like to have with their Friday movie. I probably could have bought a lot more but even dollar items start to add up after awhile. I wish all the Dollar Trees had this much selection.

Dollar Stores are a great place to get all the little things you would have to pay much more than a dollar for. Such as paper clips, small journals, pads, liquid soap, Ibuprofen, etc. Dollar stores have taken the place of the old 5 and 10 cent stores. Dollar tree is great because they keep their word and only charge a dollar per item. So many other so-called dollar stores just charge whatever they want leaving you confused as to what the price will be. Dollar Tree is the only one I've been into that charges $1.00 per item--No confusion! The Dollar Tree that I'm reviewing is one of the larger ones with frozen food sections and many other items not stocked at other smaller Dollar Tree stores. It's a great place to find candy, holiday items and kitchen goods as well as cosmetics and creams. Check it out and enjoy. It'll only cost you a dollar.

Great selection. Fantastic price. Lots of half eaten food all over the store. The employees were very nice.

I was so excited to read about this new store... an odd lot;job lot;big lot;place with bargains. In…read morereality, it was very disappointing. The concept is that you grab a bag and sift through cardboard boxes of stuff and fill up your bag. Depending on the day you come, the prices change. Monday's price is $3; on Tuesdays it's $2 for each item in the box, etc... down to a 25 cents "blowout" on Thursday morning... until they restock and start the week again. I don't know if the people who came over the weekend and paid $6 an item got all the bargains, but we didn't see even one thing that we considered buying. It was just big cardboard boxes lined up and very awkward to reach into that had piles of the same junk in it -- items you'd find left over from a sale in a flea market. Around the perimeter were drug store and grocery items marked at supposedly 50 percent off the retail price. Again nothing that was of any interest to us. And that's saying a lot when I can't find at least one thing to spend my money on. I'm glad I came -- so I won't feel like I've missed out on anything. Now I know.

Store feels cluttered and slightly dark. We walked in to find only one other visitor on Saturday afternoon. We heard staff making up prices in back area for incoming items. It felt like rock, paper, scissors. Hmmm .... They proudly offer they are a Target Store liquidator now. Interesting as at least 1/2 the store did not look like regular Target merchandise. The pricing now is full retail and then a discount of 35% off. Todays special was slightly higher. They also warned that credit card would add a 3% charge. (Being in financials, they should check processor contract as Visa/MC do not commonly allow this) It was not what we wanted and left. Not knocking their decision to go this route, but doubt we would return. The original business design seemed to offer more possibilities and just needed some better execution. We do wish them luck ....

Don't get me wrong, they do have some cool finds too. You just have to dig a little deeper. I like their drinking games and kitchen towels. I say this is where all the stuff that people don't want go to die because it's kinda true. Lol. If you look hard enough, you may find a good score on something you want at a fraction of the cost! It's a little hit and miss with regard to what you can find, but it's a great little spot for discounted clothing, shoes, housewares and cosmetics. I come here occasionally to see if I can find deals on stuff like kids shoes and clothes. Usually we got pretty lucky when we stop in, especially with the shoes. You have to do a little bit of digging and the shoe section can be a bit of a mess, but they do have major brands which are deeply discounted. I would definitely recommend Macy's Backstage, it's kind of like Macy's own version of T.J Maxx or Marshall's. Worth checking out if you are doing some shopping in the Boca area!

Average quality, high prices. Their old location was bomb and this one is a dud…read more In my humble opinion, the pompano store rocked. 80% of their items were fair priced and 20% were great bargains! They always encouraged me to come back, and I did. Quality is OK day-of. Most of it needs to be eaten quickly. For instance their watermelon or mangoes wont be good after a week. That's fine but $5.99/small melon or $1/mango are almost as bad as publix. Not quite but almost. Where's the deals? If its expensive, Where's the high quality? I respect their game and wish them luck but sadly its a closed chapter for me. Its not that im not going to return out of spite, but I wont be returning simply because there's no point to. Theres no deals or anything amazing anymore. Best of luck

More like a 2.5 today. It's sad because I really liked shopping here…read more I don't know what happened to the store. They used to have beautiful fresh fruits and vegetables, a nice freezer section. I even bought a tomato tree here once. I don't come often since it's not close, but every once in a while when I'm going to Costco, I'll just drive down a little bit further and stop in and pick up some things. I was so disappointed today. They've gotten rid of 99% of freezer section and they have the old cases for sale, so that's the end of that. Today they had long tables of garbage thrown on top and I'm not quite sure what it was, but people were digging through like it was some flea market garage sale. The entire store has changed and in my opinion not for the better. I was able to pick up a couple of avocados at 3 for a $1, a bag of potatoes so I can make mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving, some tomatoes, and that's about it. I did notice that they had a table full of hot pickle tomatoes that expired 9/20/2025 so that did it for me. I don't understand why you would put out food no matter what price it is, after the expiration date. The other thing that bothered me was the 4% fee for credit card. I know as a fact, if you have the right credit card processing you pay 1.9%. They also had a tip jar at the check out...for what... so the salaried employee can slide your purchases across a scanner and you can put the items in the bags you bring. No one packs your bags here and they don't even have plastic or paper bags. With all the fees, the prices aren't any less than TJs or Aldi. I know now, I don't ever have to drive down here again.
