On the other side of the coin, whomever in the store is in charge of pricing seems to be out of touch in some areas. For example, last week a bunch of celery was $5 while at Medford Food Co-op the organic celery was $3 a bunch and looked gorgeous. Tasted gorgeous, too. Since HerbPharm was sold a couple of years ago, their prices have increased SIGNIFICANTLY -- almost doubling with some products. One of those products is Valerian 4 ounce bottles. Last summer I used to pay around $30 a bottle. Right now at Shop 'n Kart that same bottle is $47.99. No way. Needless to say, I did not purchase it there. I checked on Amazon where the price was less expensive but I thought I could still do better I went to Medford Food Co-op and found the exact thing I was looking for. The Wednesday wellness discount of 10% plus my $5 owner discount brought the price per bottle down to a little over $30. BIG improvement!!! I purchased three bottles and did the rest of my shopping in the store. When I encounter price gouging like what I described earlier in this review, it causes me to leave the store and do the rest of my shopping elsewhere. It's a consignment store NOT a thrift store; selection is based on the population selling their stuff. That being said, there are still some great finds for the under 40yr crowd. A LOT of jeans sizes 0-6. A decent selection for jeans size 6-14 and several racks for "plus sizes". Not a great variety of men's clothing. It's there, but slim pickin's. It's worth a visit just to check out the constantly changing inventory; new arrivals on the front racks. It feels better buying previously purchased clothing vs buying new and better for the environment too!! Today was a sale "buy 5 items, get 20% off your total" I'm a fan :D

The business has a sticky note that says there's a small fee but it is not defined. A small fee is maybe 1-2% of the charge. I will no longer do business here because it's unethical to not be transparent in your fee structure and to charge so much to the majority of your customers. If you are that bad at navigating a payment processor then you have other opportunities to succeed.

One of the original owners recently passed and if you want to buy one of his fascinating and original wall art pieces, good luck! Past that, this is definitely a book store of literary titles that you didn't previous know that you needed. The store (which I think was once a Yoga studio) has 2 spacious rooms (front and back) and plenty of space to spread out and dive in. The selection is well curated (and organized) and priced accordingly. Hermeticus really requires multiple visits as there's so many exploration options. The person working the day I was there, was well versed in what topics I chose to bring up. I'll be sure to visit again the next time I'm in Ashland and hope that I can pull the trigger on a unique art piece or some personal literary masterpiece.

Not what you'd expect, the little used bookshop is full of rare and fascinating books on Alchemy, knowledge held by Mystery Schools of the past, and quite a selection of rare books on similar subjects. The owner was super friendly and helpful, even gave me a birthday discount on my purchases. Only in Ashland could a place as cool as this exist.
