I noticed minor smudges on my wedding dress and decided to get it dry cleaned last minute. When I picked my dress up, the smudges were gone and all seemed good. When I put it on on my wedding day- only a few days after dry cleaning- my dress had a mildewy smell, similar to if you leave clothes in the washing machine for too long. I enjoyed the day too much and could barely smell it myself, so I wasn't too bothered, but everyone should be aware that this cleaner may not do the best or most thorough job. read more

I have been coming to this place for last 7 years for tailoring my clothes. The man us definitely fast at tailoring your clothes. He has always did a decent job. Some issues here and there but i overlooked it. I went to them w about 10 pants 2 months ago. And when i went in to pick them up the length of all the pants where all over the place. Some were too short n some were too long. And he said he fix them for me no problem. He fixed the length. I was happy. Mind u i have never asked them to refix the lengths before. I thought everything was ok between us. Fast forward i went there yesterday to hem 6 pants. He looked at me n gave me a weird look no hi no nothing. Then i tell him i need to hem my pants. W each pants he proceeds to say "you 100 percent want this lenght.?!" Because i 100 percent will sew it this lenght. He repeats this 6 times and i think wow he is mad at me for last time. Then he proceeds to write how many items i have then the price on slip. Then he looks at me one more time and says abd takes chalk to write on my pants. And says, "I 100 % will sew here and not fix for you.,! So you 100 percent ok with this length. At this point Im say, " i am 100 percent sure you dont want to sew my pants n proceed to take my pants back. I also say looks like you dont like me because of last time. ! I said t i come here so long and one time u have to fix my pants twice and you still mad n remember. I said its ok ill take my pants next door. Then he wife proceeds to say No, we can not fix for yoh again only one time. He proceeds to remove the clips on pants and i leave. Honestly, you are a tailor. That how it works. I may have agreed to the damn length but he cut my pants n sew it. Not me. My pants two months ago were over half either too short or too long. You think i will accept that. If he wanted to charge me another fee say it then dont do it n hold a grudge. But u are in business to help tailor . Doesnt mean its 100 percent done right. He lost a loyal customer. I hit the jackpot on a Saturday when I decided last minute to tailor a long maxi dress for a late afternoon baby shower the same day. However, now I am traveling extensively and have had backpacks, duffel bags, North Face jackets, fishing jackets, and convertible pants, all repaired by this shop. They do great work. They altered my dress BEAUTIFULLY, IMPECCABLY, in just 48+ hours AND for a very fair price!! Seriously, the sewing and workmanship was perfect - you couldn't even tell it had been altered at all! This place was super unsettling. Needing alterations for a bridesmaid dress, this is how the story went: i walked in and the owner took his time strolling up to the front counter, impatient and without eye-contact. i then kindly asked him if he could shorten the length of the dress and simply pinch a little extra fabric in the cups. Though he appeared to be a normal human, reacted angrily to my description declaring that if i wanted something "pinched" or cheaply done, that I need to take it home and do it myself as he only services to HIGH-END "professional" work. He went on a rant about the quality of dresses in his shop. Where am i? so DOLLAR cleaners is a classy joint. makes sense. Continuing to scold me for suggesting work that was beneath him, i replied that he didn't need to be so mean about it, grabbed my dress and walked out. Took my wedding dress here for alteration since the dress that I ordered from Taiwan was too big for my upper body and too tight for my hip and legs. I was so depressed when I received my dress 2 weeks before my wedding and thought I screwed it by ordering my wedding dress from another country. I thought there was no way to alter my wedding and make it fit. Yet, thank god I found this place on Yelp and took my dress here. The owner was a Chinese couple. They are very friendly and nice, super efficient. They got my dress done in one week and gave me a final fitting a week before my wedding. I got my dress the day before my wedding, it fits perfectly. Everyone loved my dress and commented that was the most beautiful wedding dress they have ever seen. Thanks to Dollar cleaner for making it happen. :) Dry clean is also fairly reasonable price. So far, I'm very skeptical of this place. I stopped in on a Sunday because I needed the Mr.'s shirts cleaned and pressed. As I handed over 7 shirts, the woman wrote down that it would take three days to get them all cleaned and pressed. What?! I kindly told her that's not doable because I needed them within two days at the latest. So, she quickly crossed out Wednesday and circled Tuesday. Umm, are you sure you're able to do it? Were you just going to take your sweet time? Anyway, I call the next morning just to check in and the owner seemed like he was just pretending to look up my order because he asked if it was just ONE shirt. Umm, no... Bring your dry cleaning and tailoring for Kevin! Kevin and his wife own this little dry cleaning shop on Garfield inside the Chinese plaza. I've been going to him for all my tailoring and dry cleaning needs for several years now and never had an issue. Prices are pretty decent with dry cleaning prices of pants at $1.99, suit jackets at $5.99, long wool coats at $7.25. Tailoring prices range but to hem pants its around $5-$7 depending on how you like your pants hemmed and the material of your pants. It usually takes about 3-5 days for my clothes to be ready for pickup so the sign that says same day pickup is kind of deceiving. But if you don't mind a wait, the prices are very affordable and they do a decent job. read more

This review is just about the altering/hemming services at the Dollar Cleaners. I needed to get a bridesmaid dress fixed because the dress itself would have fallen off of me if I didn't. I came here through a recommendation from my mom's cousin's daughter who brought her bridesmaid dress here as well. It can be a little tricky to find, as there are two plazas right next to each other. This was is the north plaza, closest to Emerson Street. Once you enter the plaza, it is towards the back end to the right side. I walked in and the lady was on the phone with my mom haha. Gotta love Asian moms. Anywho, she had me try on the outfit. There's a little curtain thingy in the back of the cleaners with a little chair. It was a little strange to change in that area, as it opened into a room with some machines, random fabrics, and this huge window. After trying it on, the lady pinned the dress in multiple places as I had to get it taken in all the way down to my waist. She told me that it would take about a week and cost me $36 as there was this intricate pleated pattern on the front of the dress and the fabric/material the dress was made out of was super fancy so she'd have to be more careful with it. QUICK NOTE: They only accept cash, and usually want payment up front. I was able to pay with the cash I had at the time, and pay the rest when I picked up the dress. I came back a week later, excited to try it on. The lady wasn't there, but the guy (perhaps her husband?) showed up to help me out. I tried on the dress, and it fit great! You couldn't even tell where they did the alterations and my dress looks like it came as is! I was really happy about this, as I have never taken any item of clothing to get altered and I was a little concerned about how the bridesmaid dress would look afterwards. Again, they did a great job and I would highly recommend them to anyone. The only downside to this location is that I live in Los Angeles, so it's a little difficult to go to Monterey Park on weeknights. I'm glad I made the trek out here, it was well worth it. read more

Honestly, I wouldn't take this cleaners if you don't have too. It's shady inside, the owners seem very cheap and shady, and no customer service. They actually ruined one of my shirts. They ironed the collar that had stayers in them and what do you know.....burnt the shape of the stayers into the collar. Needless to say, I had to through it out. Brought a couple items in to be dry cleaned and repaired. One item needed pretty extensive repair that I was already doubting they could fix but when I dropped it off the lady told me 5 dollars and that she could do it. Had someone pick it up couple days later for me because I was busy, maybe it's my fault I wasn't there to check.. but they didn't repair it at all, mention anything to person picking up or give a REFUND?? ..! Another item had a small stain they couldn't remove (which is fine) they left a note on that item but you couldn't mention it to the person picking it up? What isn't okay is that there are a bunch of new marks and color stains on it!! Way worse condition than when I brought it in!!! Another item had small stains everywhere! Basically looked like they just ironed the items. This places price were cheaper than most and really close to my house. I guess you get what you pay for. I paid 45 for 5 items to be fixed or cleaned. 2 items turned out okay, 1 item was ruined another was just ironed!!! Lesson learned!!!! Be warned. Don't be fooled by the 4 star reviews. read more

Thank God we have Yelp! Well, thank Yelp for its existence. I know that I sound extremely cheesy... but being the apparel girl myself, and looking for the perfect dress-altering place, you get the idea how PICKY I could be. Kevin Lu is the owner who sits next to a sewing machine at the shop himself. He's a fashion designer from Shanghai (respect, I know this school of garment professionals. They tailor-make mandarin dresses. If you can make silk mandarins dresses, you can pretty much fix tops and bottoms of all kinds.) I brought in my favorite satin night gown which was 2 inches too long on the front and 4 inches too long in the back. I was stepping on it every minute. Why? The hem of the gown was sealed with a type of cover stitches that is not normally done here in the States. The last dry cleaner I used simply didn't have the skill or equipment to fix it. And Kevin has the right sewing machine to replicate the exact stitches! Not only he had zero technical challenge, he finished the work in less than 24 hours! I picked up the dress the next day. I tried it on at the shop. I can't tell you how happy I was! Oh, and all that fast and amazing work only cost $16! Definitely coming back. Highly recommended. read more

This is still my go-to place for alterations. It used to cost only $5.00 to get my jeans hemmed and $10-$12 to get the "special" hem- recommended for premuim denim, I don't know HOW he works his magic but he'll just relocate the original bottom hem (with frays and other detailing) up a bit higher for my shorty little legs. There is a little make-shift changing room in the back and a mirror in the front. I always feel like a model strutting my thang as I walk from the rear of the store, down towards the front, amidst rows and rows of dry cleaning. The GREAT thing about having that changing room is that you don't do any guess-work, and neither do they. There's nothing worse than spending good money on premuim denim only to have the hem too short and you lookin not-so-fly in your high waters. I usually wash new pants/jeans 2-3 times before getting them altered. Then, I bring the exact shoes I would like to wear the pants with (height is key). There is a friendly lady who will help you to adjust the length to your liking. (her English skills is not grade A so, just point to the rear and tell her "try on?" heheeh) If you're super worried about length just tell them to do the hem a bit wider so you have about 3/4 in to play around with in case of emergencies. I called just now and maybe due to recession pricing, a hem is now only $4.00. With the special hem only $8.00 WHAT a frickin steal. I can rely on them for any of my clothing emergencies, and they have turned some clothes that fit super bad and unsaveable-looking on me to looking amazing in comparison! I also feel so comfortable with them they talk to me like an auntie and uncle. When I'm in a clothing emergency, if I call them that day, they can save me if given enough time and they put up with all my pickiness and hours of indecisiveness LOL. This is definitely my favorite tailor in town. They are well priced and extremely fast!! The other tailors in town take forever- 5 days to a week. On the other hand, Dollar cleaner is so fast and professional. I brought in 2 pairs of pants at 5pm on a Weds. The pants were ready by Thursday at 12pm.
