Had a bad experience here today: (1) the Nitro Cold Brew coffee tasted really bitter and hollow, and when I asked the server about it, he said "I drink it all the time, it's fine;" (2) the drink was served in plastic and when I asked for a glass since I was sitting down at the table, the server said "all the glasses are broken." Stopped by for some coffee after perusing the Dupont Circle Farmer's Market last weekend. You know they are coffee experts when their lattes and cappuccinos come in one size only (no grande or venti found here)! The gelato was very good, but there wasn't really anything special that made this place deserving of 5 stars. The Ice cream was very delicious: I had the Mexican coffee which was unique and tasty and the peanut butter chocolate which was rich and indulgent. The worker was very nice and he let me try 4 different flavors. However, when i finally placed my order, I received a small cup that was barely satisfying and costed me more than 6 dollars. I was disappointed until I tasted the ice cream which was great. I recommend this place for a treat once in a while, but it's too expensive to go to often. read more

Need an amazing coffee with yummy creative sweet on the side, then head to Dolcezza. It sits between multiple restaurants on Connecticut ave. It makes amazing coffees, lattes and espressos. They also offer a limited amount of homemade yummy and creative baked goods. So if you see something that peaks your interest, get it because they will not be there by the end of the day or even again the next day. I personally came in multiple days while on business to get the Dulce de Leche with almond milk. It was one of the best lattes that I have ever had. They also sale whimsical gelato flavors including salted caramel and chocolate gelato push pops. So I highly recommend this place through the year to satisfy your sugar and caffeine appetites. YUMMMMM is all I have to say about the gelato! ....kidding, we all know I have lots and lots to say about everything. This place was so good! They have really unique flavors that appear to rotate. I only went once but they them written up on the board. The girl working there was really sweet and let me try as many flavors as I wanted. They had flavors like lemon blueberry vodka, something with thyme, cilantro lime vodka, avocado honey orange, cucumber mint vodka, mango habanero lime, a lot of great sounding gelato flavors I couldn't get but I was more than happy with the sorbet flavors. I ended up getting the avocado honey orange and cucumber mint vodka and they were both incredible! Very refreshing and sweet and I love the idea of mixing vegetables into desserts, hehe. The mango habanero lime was also fantastic and I made sure my cousin got that one so I could steal a bit. It had a kick at the end but I wouldn't quite describe it as spicy, just good. It's a bit pricey, $4.50 for the chico. I understand because it's such good gelato, but it's not something I could do all the time. But I was on vacation! I also got an espresso. It was good and strong but also only enough to fill a thimble....yeah, dissapointing. I didn't think to throw it on the ice cream but that would be great depending on flavors. The guy making the coffee was also really nice. Atmosphere was cute, a big table and a bar with several people studying or working. had to knock down a star only because of the price and the mini coffee. Besides the really expensive prices, Dolcezza has some of the best gelato in DC, with a great location in the heart of DuPont and an amazing ambience. The super friendly servers knew it was our first time and gave us great recommendations about which flavors to order. While I originally thought about giving only 3 stars due to the high prices, the coffee shop vibe, interior design, and great staff warranted another star. Great gelato, with interesting flavors. It's not as dense and thick as some other gelato I've had, but it's still pretty good. One star off because I always feel really awkward coming in here. The people who take the gelato orders always give me a weird look like they don't know why I'm telling them their order. It blows my mind how good this shit is. I call the dark chocolate gelato "crack." I eat crack about 4 times a week. I don't even like chocolate all that much. So, on a very hot day in Dupont circle I walked inside for a small gelato. This is not gelato that will change your life or even your day. It is just regular gelato. I'll give you that the wooden decor and ambiance are nice. The service however bordered on haughty. And yes, the prices are actually that high. To be honest, I think the gelato here is average. I ordered the Valrhona Chocolate Amargo and Blueberry Lavender. I love - or I guess 'loved' - Dolcezza, from their coffee to the sorbetto to the ambiance. But I don't love how the business has changed in the year since I've started frequenting them. They started exclusively stocking Stumptown coffee instead of the variety of blends they had in the past, which I always enjoyed sampling. Their prices have gone up. The coffee servings are smaller. Their pour-over bar wasn't there last weekend when I went in - they made my coffee in a Chemex, which I could just do in my own kitchen with my Madcap beans i had to buy somewhere else, since Dolcezza stopped stocking them. I'll keep going and I'm happy that they're doing well and expanding all over the city, and I'm all for small price increases every so often, but this combination of factors definitely makes me less likely to splurge on their products like I used to. read more

Perfect way to cool off on a hot summer day in DC. I love their unique and sophisticated sounding flavors...instead of "grapefruit" they have "grapefruit Campari" and instead of just mango, naturally it's "mango champagne". Even the names themselves make the gelato taste better. I'd love to learn how to master that marketing tactic...the art of naming food items so the food tastes instantly 100x better. We live in Oakland, the land of occasional robbery and awesome artisanal food that makes the possibility of occasional robbery almost bearable. We also have some amazing gelato places here, so when DC's 97 degree heat started getting to us, we decided to try out this gelato place near our hotel. The flavor selection is an interesting mix of exotic spices (cardamom as well as others) and ingredients like marscapone. However, the texture of the gelato itself was icy, not smooth, and the actual flavors were light as opposed to rich. The prices here are fairly high--six bucks for a tiny cup of gelato--so I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but it serves it's purpose if you happen to be nearby and crave gelato. read more

I came in here after a dinner date for something sweet. I don't entirely remember what I got, but my date and I both got something per the staffs' recommendations, and both were great. I like this location a lot, it's nice and quaint, and it doesn't seem overly busy which I really enjoyed. I'd like to come in here to read a book and get some coffee also, which their options look great too. Come for the Gelati, best in the city by far. They use local fresh ingredients to fashion intense but refined Gelati. But stay and return for the coffee and espresso. This is a feather in the cap of DC coffee bars. Knowledgeable baristi (Eric Rocks!!) serving boutique beans from local and national roasters (Inteligencia, Ritual, Wrecking Ball to name a few). It's a cute shop with coffee, gelato and sorbetto in a busy part of Dupont Circle. It's not Italian gelato (I mean it is, but it's just not the same) but it's amazing. They let you sample any flavor before you try it, which is awesome. I ended up blending vanilla with a coffee flavor who's name escapes me. It was specific to a coffee bean they have there. We also tried blackberries and cream with Thai coconut milk. They were both delicious but I really enjoyed the blackberries and coconut milk! Overall it was around $12 for four scoops. As a treat, it's totally worth it. I would also return to try coffee as well. read more
