The barista did a nice job with my latte and the milk was at a good temp and just slightly airy however the barista was still able to draw some art. This is a cute little spot serving gelato, coffee, and tea in Bethesda Row, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered gelato and an iced matcha latte. Both were quite good but a bit pricey for the amount you get. Although I did not have it today, they also serve delicious affogato--coffee with a scoop of ice cream--which I've had in the past and which is a must-try. All the flavors were amazing and what was even more amazing was the service. Joy was patient with me and very attentive in helping me pick a flavor. As a very indecisive person, she carefully walked me through all of the flavor selections with tangible descriptions and vivid imagery allowing me to paint a picture of the flavor notes in my head. She also kept my allergies in mind- I'm allergic to shellfish, cats, grass, pollen, and tree nuts. And I'm also gluten free and halal. The creamiest, most indulgent gelato ever tasted in the I was so excited to try the seasonal flavors and the sweet potato praline did not disappoint. I also had the mascarpone and fig is absolutely delicious. Not overly sweet and full of flavor. The location is incredibly clean and esthetically pleasing. If you take anything away from this review, please get the affogato!!! I was visiting my bf in Maryland and he took me to this place. We ended up sampling a couple of different gelatos and decided on the salted caramel which we ended up making an affogato. We decided to share that and it was rich enough for the both of us! The salted caramel flavor perfectly complemented the more bitter taste of the espresso which was so so rich. I loved the sweetness, saltiness, and bitterness that the affogato had to offer. The dark chocolate is so creamy that I think any chocolate lover will enjoy. The coffee and lavender flavors were not too overpowering, which made the gelato light and less-fattening. I typically buy their latté and it is above average. There are times where the latté was too milky, although it was at their VA location. Dolchezza is a cute little gelato shop. It's perfectly located, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The only down side is that there isn't a lot of room when there's a huge line on a hot day. The gelato quality is stellar. I tried a bunch of different flavors, before settling on the grapefruit, the mascarpone with berries and the dark chocolate. They're really nice and let you try different flavors before you pick. The grapefruit sorbet was light and perfect for a hot day. The mascarpone with berries was really creamy, and probably my favorite. I was really excited to see that they sell this flavor at Whole Foods. The dark chocolate was a classic. Rich, flavorful, and a great contrast to the light sorbet. This is a dangerous spot for me since I love gelato. It's a bit expensive, so it's nice to have the option to buy a pint and enjoy at home once in a while. Final Verdict: This spot is good. I hope they bring more unique flavors like Rose, Melon or Pear, but we'll see if they do have more fun flavors as I return. Yum! read more

I'm a sucker for anything ice cream, fro yo, novelty and just about any cool treat and Dolcezza Artisanal was right around the corner from where I went to dinner. The place is tiny, cramped and whoever designed it is kind of clueless since the door is about 5 feet away from the gelato so you once two people walk in and more try to come in, it's cramped. Along with that, there were two people working but they really didn't have a flow as to who was scooping and who was working the register so that was a bit perplexing. But to the good stuff--- They have a ton of flavors, all of which we were free to sample (black sesame?? Ok!) but it was $5.75 for a small cup of gelato. $5.75?? Is that a joke? I've never had gelato so expensive so when I went to pay I also said a little prayer hoping the gelato would be worth it. I got dulce de leche and cappuccino and unfortunately it was worth it. Creamy, tasty and made me want to lick the bowl! The hazelnut was sweet and creamy, and the dark chocolate was decadent and thick. They were each great on their own but so delicious when eaten together. My friend got an affogato with the dark chocolate - he said it was delicious but incredibly rich. This is a great location with good service and cheap parking in the garage next door. The shop is small though with only a few tables for seating. There's plenty of outdoor seating in the overall Bethesda row area, but it was too cold to eat gelato outside so we ate inside. read more

I also enjoyed the Thai Coconut Milk gelato. If you incline towards their sorbetto, try the Blood Orange or the Lime Shiso flavor. Both are light and refreshing. They rotate their gelato and sorbetto selection frequently (while keeping most of their classic and popular flavors), so don't be surprised when you don't see your favorite flavor from time to time. AMAZING affogato. Get the affogato. Seriously. We came in to Dolcezza one night after having dinner at a nearby restaurant. When I ordered the affogato (which is gelato with a shot of espresso poured over) the barista had several recommendations on types of gelato that paired well with coffee. All the flavors were wonderful, but we chose the coffee cookie gelato, which I can't even describe with words. It was like eating creamy espresso gelato with thick chunks of Oreo. With the espresso poured over, it was a perfect dessert. It was truly unworldly. I may have died in Dolcezza from happiness- it was seriously a dessert to die for. Aside from affogato style; the best experience I could provide for my customers at Vino Volo Woodmont was to drizzle Balsamic Vinegar on the treat. It was from my other favorite neighbor: SECOLARI. The sweet thick Black Berry Balsamic on some of the simplest Dolcezza editions put more than just a smile on my customers' faces. It showed I was creative and caring. Not bad, but for the price (and self-touted as "artisanal"), I expected outstanding gelato, equivalent to what you'd get in Italy itself or at least matching Mario Batali's Eataly in NYC. At $5.50 a pop for a (rather) small scoop, it's a bit expensive for only okay gelato. The flavors are pretty good, with a deep cocoa flavor in the chocolate; a good coffee flavor in the coffee gelato, and an interesting salty/sweet one in a Japanese pickled plum version (umeboshi-flavored) -- however, nevertheless, the creaminess and unctuousness of first-class gelato was missing. Dolcezza is fine if you really need your gelato fix, but if not, there are some better options in the Woodmont area for good desserts. read more

A cute little shop around Bethesda Row. They have a few tables cramped inside, but the best thing to do is find a seat outside and enjoy your gelato in the sun. When we came here, there was a line just long enough for us to look over the flavors. There wasn't anything too crazy when we went, but we still wanted to try some of the more peculiar ones. The staff seemed to have a "can you please hurry up" attitude and expected us to know what we wanted after just one sample (which we both disliked). I ended up getting a small cup with thai coconut milk and champagne mango. I didn't think the champagne would make much of a difference, but it made the flavor more effervescent and less sweet. The coconut flavor was smoothed out nicely by the milk without any of the sunscreen taste. Together it made a great combo. They're also good about packing in as much gelato possible to make up for the price. Overall, the gelato is a win, the service not so much.
