If you're a gelato aficionado, this is the place for you! They have as close to authentic gelato as you're going to get in DC and they have a nice selection of flavors. However, I am not too much of a gelato critic and am happy with anything as long as it tastes good to me. So I think that gelato is a bit overpriced, with a small scoop of gelato prices around $6. I know some people swear by it though, so it's a nice treat every now and then. Dolcezza also has great Italian coffee and some seating area if you're not in a gelato mood. Come here if you want some quality gelato or coffee, but make it an occasional treat if you don't want to break the bank! read more

That espresso is STRONG and so damn satisfying. Cue all the endorphins waking up to this goodness. My daughter loves the vanilla push pops (big kid status), and my husband loves the dulce the leches gelato. We are gonna be regulars at this spot. Gelato game strong. read more

Dolcezza has the best gelato I've tried in the DMV so far! The blueberry lavender flavor is so delicious. The service is also amazing! CeCe is super cool and very helpful. She recommended I try the rose limeade which I was skeptical about at first but she won me over and she was totally right lol. I definitely will revisit Dolcezza the next time I am in the area. read more

Shoutout to our local community heroes like Casey! This front man was a wealth of knowledge! He was so kind to let us taste several flavors to help us make this hard decision a worthy one! Casey helped explain flavor profiles and combinations. My friend who loves gelato and has had gelato while studying abroad it Italy agreed that this venue is totally legit! I just had savory for dinner, so I wanted calming and refreshing. With Casey's help and patience, I choose a scoop of fig mascarpone and a scoop of honey crisp apple. Just what the doctor ordered! I am not as well versed or well traveled, so the education that I received today will be etched into my heart, mind, soul, taste buds, and Foodie fandom Hall of Fame! So many rich flavors and seasonal ones too. Like the hot cider drink that was so epically Autumn and Winter holidays stored in one cup!!! And Casey even shared that my favorite flavor was available in a pint size, even though it was not in available in todays showcase.... COCONUT!!!! Yay! But that is for next time, since my sweet tooth was already in it's happy place and settling my being into a luxurious, decadent, fulfilling day of Foodie bliss! Thank you, Casey and thank you awesome venue! Drop the mic! We got to walk it off now and enjoy the Autumn weather! read more

One of my favs in the area. A very tiny shop that has only gelato and espresso, but it is quality. The barista did a nice job with my latte and the milk was at a good temp and just slightly airy however the barista was still able to draw some art. Overall the taste was smooth and rich and very enjoyable. Recommended! read more

This is a cute little spot serving gelato, coffee, and tea in Bethesda Row, with both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered gelato and an iced matcha latte. Both were quite good but a bit pricey for the amount you get. Although I did not have it today, they also serve delicious affogato--coffee with a scoop of ice cream--which I've had in the past and which is a must-try. I would recommend this place and will return, but hopefully the will fix their bathroom--which was out of order today--very soon. read more

Dropped by for some dessert and this place has some pretty good gelatos! I got the banana split (had small shavings of chocolate that melts in your mouth) & vanilla bean which was delicious. I did take a sample taste of the pistachio flavor which I will definitely order next time! read more

This is my favorite gelato spot in the area. Prices are reasonable and everything tastes so creamy. I would definitely try the pistachio, vanilla, black sesame and the tramontana. Tramonta here tastes just like dulce de leche with some chocolate chip bits. Located right in Bethesda row this is a great after dinner spot. Lines are usually out the door, but they go rather quickly. If you're in the area this is a great spot to pop in and get some quality scoops. read more

Really delicious gelato--I liked the chocolate peanut butter and the bananas foster flavors. Some people in our group said they've had more interesting flavors elsewhere, but I really liked the texture and creaminess. read more

All the flavors were amazing and what was even more amazing was the service. Joy was patient with me and very attentive in helping me pick a flavor. As a very indecisive person, she carefully walked me through all of the flavor selections with tangible descriptions and vivid imagery allowing me to paint a picture of the flavor notes in my head. She also kept my allergies in mind- I'm allergic to shellfish, cats, grass, pollen, and tree nuts. And I'm also gluten free and halal. Joy deserves a raise and made my taste and experience scrumptious. read more

If you take anything away from this review, please get the affogato!!! I was visiting my bf in Maryland and he took me to this place. We ended up sampling a couple of different gelatos and decided on the salted caramel which we ended up making an affogato. We decided to share that and it was rich enough for the both of us! The salted caramel flavor perfectly complemented the more bitter taste of the espresso which was so so rich. I loved the sweetness, saltiness, and bitterness that the affogato had to offer. I would come back to Maryland just for this and will probably come back here every time I'm in the area. Best affogato I've ever had! I also really liked the vibes of this place. The aesthetic was classy and the menu on the wall was one of those boards where you can rearrange the menu items. The person who took our order was really nice and I had a really pleasant experience there. read more

I have to say I only ordered a drink here and skipped the gelato (Which did look good). I ordered an Iced Chai from here and would not recommend it. The creamiest, most indulgent gelato ever tasted in the I was so excited to try the seasonal flavors and the sweet potato praline did not disappoint. I also had the mascarpone and fig is absolutely delicious. Not overly sweet and full of flavor. The location is incredibly clean and esthetically pleasing. We went back the next day and I purchased a pint of the sweet potato to take home. Also had the banana foster gelato and it's soooo yummy. Try as many flavors as you can. You will not be disappointed. read more

I dig the cushy chairs (there appear to be only two) in the far back of this establishment. Remember the quasi-throne that The Count used to sit in on Sesame Street? Imagine it in white. That's what these seats make me think of. Some of the better frozen dairy product I've experienced. I was thoroughly impressed at the smooth, creamy, lightness of my tiramisu gelato. I might have preferred a little bit more of the espresso flavor in it, and it came off as sweeter than anticipated, but the nearly-fluffy consistency was certainly pleasant. Shockingly, (or perhaps, not-so-shockingly) dessert for two here ended up costing over 50% of a ridiculously filling dinner meal at A&J. Ouch. Clearly, this is not the dessert of the prole. Impressive product. Questionably aggressive pricing. read more

Now, after eating Argentine pizza at Pizza Zero you can stroll up the street to the new Bethesda Lane and savor some unique and tantalizing Argentine style gelato. It was a balmy Saturday and when I saw the line for this place, I said to myself, "Me too!" It wasn't really a long line after all, and at least it gave me time to decide what flavors to try this time around. I LOVE this new little lane where Dolcezza is situated! Anywhoo... I narrowed it down to two baby scoops (they are kinda small) : Caribbean Red Papaya and Tahitian Vanilla Bean. Both were divine, but I kinda preferred the pure and simple flavor of the vanilla. It's not that pricey when you consider how much a scoop of Ben and Jerry's is these days. Indulge yourself, you deserve it! Salud! read more

Was in the mood for frozen yogurt but belatedly (i.e. after driving into downtown Bethesda) discovered the froyo place we used to go to apparently closed. Looking on Yelp, we found Dolcezza (and let's be honest, gelato beats froyo) close by so decided to try it out. In a word: YUM!!! I had the Thai Coconut Milk and Vietnamese Cinnamon, my daughter got Dark Chocolate. All of the flavors were fantastic ... deeply flavored and rich on the tongue. A true treat, even on a cold day! read more

I'm a sucker for anything ice cream, fro yo, novelty and just about any cool treat and Dolcezza Artisanal was right around the corner from where I went to dinner. The place is tiny, cramped and whoever designed it is kind of clueless since the door is about 5 feet away from the gelato so you once two people walk in and more try to come in, it's cramped. Along with that, there were two people working but they really didn't have a flow as to who was scooping and who was working the register so that was a bit perplexing. But to the good stuff--- They have a ton of flavors, all of which we were free to sample (black sesame?? Ok!) but it was $5.75 for a small cup of gelato. $5.75?? Is that a joke? I've never had gelato so expensive so when I went to pay I also said a little prayer hoping the gelato would be worth it. I got dulce de leche and cappuccino and unfortunately it was worth it. Creamy, tasty and made me want to lick the bowl! Good thing I don't live in the area because I could totally see myself stopping by on the regular but would soon be broke and morbidly obese. read more

This place is AMAZING! At first I was reluctant to go in. Given the location, I thought it was going to be extremely overpriced. I was so wrong and pleasantly surprised! Their prices are average and the quality of their food/tea/coffee is so good. The vibe of the location is also pretty nice. Situated in the heart of Bethesda, it's a nice place to sit down and unwind. I ordered an Almond Croissant and a Jasmine Green Tea. The croissant tasted like heaven, and the jasmine tea was of great quality. I've already been back multiple times, and have a friend who fell in love with their monkey bread to the point that she calls in to make sure they have it. One thing that could be improved is the quantity of the pastries available. Often they only have a few for each kind and items run out quickly. read more

Lots of choices. I got Sweet Potato Pecan Carmel and Pistachio. Both were ok. Was a little tricky to find. It's located down what looks like an alleyway but there are a lot of stores down there. Only one person working when we went didn't seem too excited to be there lol Would try again. read more

I had their coffee and gelato multiple times at their other locations as well, and this one is no different. I like their gelato flavors because there is a wide variety of fruity, sour, and sweet. The dark chocolate is so creamy that I think any chocolate lover will enjoy. The coffee and lavender flavors were not too overpowering, which made the gelato light and less-fattening. I typically buy their latté and it is above average. There are times where the latté was too milky, although it was at their VA location. This specific Bethesda location has great service and the staff was very friendly. The outside seating area is well lit and is a great spot to just sit/relax. read more

The best gelato in the area. This is our go to dessert spot. Way better than Pitango. They give good servings.

Dolchezza is a cute little gelato shop. It's perfectly located, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. The only down side is that there isn't a lot of room when there's a huge line on a hot day. The gelato quality is stellar. I tried a bunch of different flavors, before settling on the grapefruit, the mascarpone with berries and the dark chocolate. They're really nice and let you try different flavors before you pick. The grapefruit sorbet was light and perfect for a hot day. The mascarpone with berries was really creamy, and probably my favorite. I was really excited to see that they sell this flavor at Whole Foods. The dark chocolate was a classic. Rich, flavorful, and a great contrast to the light sorbet. This is a dangerous spot for me since I love gelato. It's a bit expensive, so it's nice to have the option to buy a pint and enjoy at home once in a while. Final Verdict: This spot is good. I hope they bring more unique flavors like Rose, Melon or Pear, but we'll see if they do have more fun flavors as I return. Yum! read more

The gelato here is really good, but also very pricey! A small is about $5.00, gives you two scoops. You can mix flavors. The flavors are unique and exotic, not the typical chocolate or lemon that other places carry. I tried the black sesame and Thai coconut. Both are delicious! They also have baked good and coffee. I tried the alfajor, which is two short bread cookies sandwiching dulce de leche rolled in coconut flakes. It's pretty good, but too crumbly when you bite into it. read more

I've been here twice. The first time I had the black and white cookie which is good, but very very sugary so if you don't have a huge sweet tooth, stay away from this one. Disappointed by the pistachio pint. It didn't have a strong flavor and just tastes like cream...no nut pieces which I would've liked but the main issue was that the flavor just wasn't there. read more

Absolutely delicious and so worth it! I got a small gelato with one scoop of hazelnut crackle and one scoop of dark chocolate. The hazelnut was sweet and creamy, and the dark chocolate was decadent and thick. They were each great on their own but so delicious when eaten together. My friend got an affogato with the dark chocolate - he said it was delicious but incredibly rich. This is a great location with good service and cheap parking in the garage next door. The shop is small though with only a few tables for seating. There's plenty of outdoor seating in the overall Bethesda row area, but it was too cold to eat gelato outside so we ate inside. read more

With its clean and chic interior (and a price to boot), Dolcezza fits right in the Bethesda Row. With their diverse flavor options--ranging from the classics to something more experimental,--it is bound to satisfy anyone's palate. Most of the time I've been here, I felt the service was aloof and standoffish. Yes, it's not necessary, but a little chitchat and a smile won't hurt anyone. Although I am not a fan of chocolate, I really like their Valrhona Dark Chocolate gelato. It is smooth and decadent, yet creamy and bittersweet. It's quite extraordinary. I also enjoyed the Thai Coconut Milk gelato. If you incline towards their sorbetto, try the Blood Orange or the Lime Shiso flavor. Both are light and refreshing. They rotate their gelato and sorbetto selection frequently (while keeping most of their classic and popular flavors), so don't be surprised when you don't see your favorite flavor from time to time. On a nice day, the lines will get long, so be prepared to wait a bit. read more

AMAZING affogato. Get the affogato. Seriously. We came in to Dolcezza one night after having dinner at a nearby restaurant. When I ordered the affogato (which is gelato with a shot of espresso poured over) the barista had several recommendations on types of gelato that paired well with coffee. All the flavors were wonderful, but we chose the coffee cookie gelato, which I can't even describe with words. It was like eating creamy espresso gelato with thick chunks of Oreo. With the espresso poured over, it was a perfect dessert. It was truly unworldly. I may have died in Dolcezza from happiness- it was seriously a dessert to die for. I'd highly recommend checking them out and having this same dessert experience! read more

Best Gelato this side of the Trevi Fountain! I'm not just a consumer and big fan, I also served it up years ago. Aside from affogato style; the best experience I could provide for my customers at Vino Volo Woodmont was to drizzle Balsamic Vinegar on the treat. It was from my other favorite neighbor: SECOLARI. The sweet thick Black Berry Balsamic on some of the simplest Dolcezza editions put more than just a smile on my customers' faces. It showed I was creative and caring. Brought me lots of tips too! read more

Not bad, but for the price (and self-touted as "artisanal"), I expected outstanding gelato, equivalent to what you'd get in Italy itself or at least matching Mario Batali's Eataly in NYC. At $5.50 a pop for a (rather) small scoop, it's a bit expensive for only okay gelato. The flavors are pretty good, with a deep cocoa flavor in the chocolate; a good coffee flavor in the coffee gelato, and an interesting salty/sweet one in a Japanese pickled plum version (umeboshi-flavored) -- however, nevertheless, the creaminess and unctuousness of first-class gelato was missing. Dolcezza is fine if you really need your gelato fix, but if not, there are some better options in the Woodmont area for good desserts. read more
