Stopped by for a quick lunch with my friend Nancy V (it was the day after her birthday). We shared a sandwich .. ham & provolone and each had a great linzar tart (yummy). Went here recently for the first time while visiting my parents. My mom said she wanted to bring us here the next time we were in town, so she did! My husband found Dolce when our last child was about to turn 20 years old and his only request was Tiramisu. Dolce was highly recommended so we preordered (a week in advance) the delight. When my husband arrived at the time the Tiramisu was supposed to be ready, the restaurant was very busy and they apologized that it was not ready. Claudio and his daughter were super friendly. They offered us a complimentary cookie as first timers. Since it was busy inside, they set up an extra table outside. They offered a heat lamp, but we were still toasty from our hike. They've been open for three years, and mother & daughter bake delicious pastries. Sandwiches, salads, and pasta are also available. I have been in here twice now for pastry's. The first time was earlier in the morning. I got myself a Bomba. Most people don't realize about me is that I have traveled the world a bunch. Food that takes you to a special place in your head is super hard to find. Although, this is an Italian bakery it reminded me of a time sitting in Nice France on a hillside overlooking the water eating the most mouth watering pasty. Now to get this same feeling sitting in my car in a parking lot on a hot day in Reno is pretty special. The bomba is definitely the bomb as far as I'm concerned! After that day, I brought my kids back for a pastry one afternoon. Also didn't disappoint. Aside from just getting a pastry, I am currently pregnant and had fallen before taken my kids here for the pastry, I was walking a bit stiff and weird. I don't know if it was the owner or a worker but a lady noticed, came out because we were sitting on the patio, asked if there was anything she could do and had a staff member bring me water. I cannot tell you if I have ever experienced this level of care and concern from any restaurant I've ever been at before. As someone who lives in Carson, I will stop here anytime I am in Reno and want to order a cake super bad because they look so beautiful. If you like pastries, this is the place for you. This place was amazing, the first thing that i noticed when walking in was the welcoming staff. They were really nice and patient, they told us the details of their pastries and their pasta of the day. Starting at Wagyu Ravioli, it was so good. The sauce compliments the ravioli and having it with the bread was also good. The Truffle Ravioli was more creamy and is also just as good as the Wagyu. Finally got in early enough to try all the goodies at Dolce Cafe! My first visit I grabbed whatever was left in the case in the middle of a super busy morning with both a to-go line and a cozy little cafe and patio filled with people. This time I was able to sneak in early and had my pick of everything! I went with a box of several pastries and was recommended to get an Italian donut, an almond croissant, and a Sicilian iris as well. I chose the chocolate filled Italian donut and the texture was absolutely amazing! First bite was fluffy, chewy, and I didn't even get into the chocolate yet it's so big! Marco helped me out this morning and suggested the almond croissant. While I'm not a huge fan of almond croissants this one is a must try. It was flaky, flavorful, and very instagram worthy! Among the other pastries I also tried a pear danish type item that tasted like a pear pie, a strawberry pastry that was also very good but not a stand out compared to the others, and an amazing savory item that had ham, caramelized onions and red sauce inside. The sweet owner Melissa said to pop it in the microwave for 40secs and it was amazing! Lastly, the Sicilian iris. I'm so glad I got there when I did because I took both the Italian chocolate filled one and the cream filled one. Irises are filled brioche buns, covered in breadcrumbs and deep fried. Marco explained that they are typically eaten at breakfast time in Sicily so of course I had to try! I loved the texture of these and the cream one was my favorite with the inside tasting similar to Chinese egg tarts! I also loved that when I cut into them the filling was nice and evenly spread out through the whole bun. Overall a great experience but I do wish there were more labels on the pastry case items so I know what to recommend to others but I know that items rotate and sell out quickly! We ordered our favorite princess cake for my nieces birthday. What we receive had only a slight resemblance to the cake we loved! The fondant was so thin that you could see the layers through it and where there was once whipped cream (under the fondant and between the layers) there was none. The butter cream decorations turned into heavy frosting as did the whipped cream under the fondant. I was told that the previous chef remained after the business changed ownership and that they would still be offering the same recipes. This seems to be one of my go-to spots for ladies doing lunch. I had been to this location in the past when it was Franz's Backstube Austrian Bakery. It is now an Italian bakery and carries on the tradition of being a small, locally owned purveyor of pastry and baking yummyness. Both times I have been here with a friend so split one of their generous sandwiches, get something to drink, and spend some quality chat time in a welcoming environment. The space is small, but with the outdoor patio and the bench seating inside, there is plenty of room to feel comfortable sitting for a bit and catching up with a friend. Both times we were able to order our sandwiches with our preferred bread. Both times we went with the baguette. Great choice for sharing with the generous loaf that smelled and tasted freshly baked. First meal was a shared vegetarian sandwich, the second ham and provolone. Service was very friendly and the food was brought out quickly. We chose drinks from the fridge. Prices are very reasonable for quality ingredients. The pastry offerings all looked delectable. The Linzer Tart was a perfect finale to a lite lunch. This is my husbands favorite bakery at this time. Their donut is different; dense but light at the same time. Their Nutella croissant was also delicious; they definitely did not skimp out on the Nutella and the croissant was soft and flaky. Dolce Caffe' has only been open a week or so and I just happened to come across it as me and a friend were browsing the shops in this cute little shopping center. I guess it used to be an Austrian bakery. The owner wanted to retire, so sold the place to this Italian family. They added an Italian flair to the shop with gelato served. The small servings of gelato are just the right size, cause with gelato, a little goes a long way. Small servings are $3.50 each. There's a nice outdoor seating area we sat and enjoyed our gelato. I see there were all kinds of other tasty pastries on offer as well. I don't live anywhere near here so, don't know if I'll be back, but if I'm in this area , I sure will. read more

It's hard to be too complimentary to this gem of a spot. The baked goods are amazing and mouthwateringly beautiful making choosing just one an excruciatingly difficult decision. Their specialty items such as their veggie tart are like something you'd expect to find in a little Italian bakery or in a small Sicilian town. Indeed, the whole cafe is filled with old world character and values. This is no surprise since it's a family operation with momma, daughter and poppa putting their heart and soul into everything they do. We stopped here a couple of years ago after they had just reopened with the current owner, but had left without buying anything. Well, we visited again on May 18th 2024, and it was SUPER enjoyable. My wife ordered the largest croissant we have EVER seen, filled with a generous amount of delicious creamy almond filling and almond chips on top. I had a fresh puff pastry called a "cruffin". Both were absolutely amazing, delicious and more than we could eat! It was a wonderful way to enjoy part of a beautiful day along with hot coffee. A friend of mine recommended me this place and it did not disappoint. I think it's a family owned business. All of them (staff/family members) were all so welcoming and nice. 100% great service. The coffee was really good. I ordered an iced toasted marshmallow latte and it wasn't too sweet or bland. It was delicious. There's so much pastries and food to choose from - you'll want to get all of it! I got the Pistachio and Riccota Cake, scacciata, chocolate macaroon, and they gave me a free almond cookie! All of these were delicious and bery flavorful. I love that the food and drinks were flavored and seasoned well. The place is very clean, fun, and colorful. I like Dolce. I've had a number of nice items, including the pictured petit four, which was both artful and a delicious small treat. This morning I had their breakfast puff pastry with tomato, spinach, and cheese. Crisped right, filling, and tasty. I was going to save half for later, but couldn't stop myself. Service has always been one of warm hospitality. Everyone is friendly, personable, makes eye contact, greets customers and thanks them. However, many months since their opening, staff still seem perplexed about what's sold in the display case when asked. And you have to ask, because many unusual items still do not have a label. So customers don't know, nor do staff. Awkward. This should be an easy to fix issue as noted in other reviews, but...alas, not yet. With some top quality items and a welcoming staff, Dolce could be a quaint 4-star cafe. But there are other inconsistencies, namely with their croissants (or cornettos?) that prevent them from being a reliable Euro-bakery. When I saw these grandiose cornettos today, normally I'd skip a classic that looks a little off. But, when in Rome. Their almond croissants were equally oversized today, so I think this may have been a proofing or baking error. The taste was nondescript, and the layers in the cutaway were cavernous on top while flat at the bottom. It resembled more the size and makings of a stromboli rather than a petit breakfast pastry. If you stop here, you will find something you'll enjoy, no doubt. I'm excited to try their gelato and lighter summertime lunch fare outside on the patio. If they iron out some of the basic kinks, they'll be a consistent 4-star cafe or better, a much-needed and welcomed addition to this side of town. read more
